Max overtook during the safety car

When it came to Mercedes rear wing 0.2mm were enough to send him to the back of the grid in Brazil.

This should be enough to disqualify or give Max a 5 second penalty at least. But given Max has been crowned champion and all that I think it's impossible the race results will be overturned.

However, if you think about it, if Liberty wanted drama what better than having a Champion being changed after the race and all that controversy. In the Olympics sometimes they overturn results years after the medals were handed out.

In the end, I'm fed up with all this crap. I've been watching F1 since I was 3 years old but only seriously since 2006. One of things I hated of watching this is that my weekends were compromised but I guess I got them back. Maybe I'll follow WEC or MotoGP.

So what do they do if they decide the end was unjust and unfair, what will the consequences of that be??

My opinion is that they can't take the race win from Max as it wasn't him who made the call so he doesn't deserve to lose the race win.

They can give him a time penalty for overtaking during SC but it won’t happen

Is Michael Masi a moderator on here
No, we'd have removed him for inconsistency and making up new rules.

I think it's fair to say that Codemasters didn't simulate this outcome...

Let Max have it. Would just taint the title for Lewis knowing it's only being given to him on a basis of, "Oops, our bad".

Merc. claimed another title thanks to Lewis primarily. New car, new, hungry youngster in George, hope Merc. come back out swinging with Ferrari & McLaren.

I don't post in this forum much due to the horrendous childish arguing and fanboyism that seems to overrule any genuine knowledge of the sport.

That said, I will throw my opinion in.

On balance, after the year of racing, whoever won out today deserved to be world champion. Max crossed the line first, he is WC and no protests or stewards decisions should take that away.

However the officiating has been sub par for some time now and today the stewards and Massi showed just how inept they actually are. By not following the protocol for allowing ALL lapped cars to overtake and resuming racing at the end of the FOLLOWING lap, as stated in the rules, they have effectively engineered the result of this race and thus the world championship. The "to let them race" line doesn't make a dent in the mustard. Having previously said that lapped cars would not be allowed to overtake would/could have influenced Mercedes' decision to not pit lewis. Then allowing them to go past and putting Max on brand new softs, right behind lewis on very old hards, does not a fair race make. It's effectively leading the lamb to the slaughter.

I honesty expect Massi's resignation after this.

Congrats to Max. Although I don't agree with his driving style, he is an immensley talented driver.

Bottas when asked about his feelings about the safety car decision:
"I'm sure they made the decisions for safety"

Often I think people get overdramatic when saying F1 races are horrible, but this one was completely justified. That's probably the worst end to a season I've ever watched live. If the rules weren't followed to the letter then it's not really a victory at all.

Lewis is no saint but the amount of penalties that Max has gotten in recent races. The man just forgets how to drive when he reaches Lewis' proximity. It's like watching a bad SR lobby on GT Sport.

As a big fan of Honda road cars (ty gran turismo) it’s sucks to see them leave. I feel a lot of bitterness towards the people who made that call.

So, having watched one live GP and three in highlights this season, you can probably guess that F1 stopped being relevent to me quite a while ago. So tell me, did the winner win properly? I trust there were no NASCAR style insults to time spent watching which has seen them lose viewers over the years as sports fans see through what they are doing a voting down with their viewership. Nothing remotely like that would happen right? Sporting Integrity is required for a SPORT to survive. So I trust the FIA didn't do anything silly?

I shudder to think at the sheer quantity of racist abuse Hamilton will get if any of Mercedes' appeals are upheld and Verstappen is penalised.

The internet can be awful.
The internet can indeed be a terrible place sadly.

Though the decision making for both the final laps and the turn 6 incident was just weird. The fact that Hamilton just gained an advantage in turn 6 was just a bit odd to be. And then Massi just basically pretending the space was given back.

But the magically just letting a few cars trough for maximum viewing excitement ass supposed to just the whole field is also just very odd and leaves a but of a sour taste. Even if the merc monotony was getting very old. This feels like not entirely the right way to do it.

How hilarious would a protest from Ferrari be on this...

Right? And that's part of the problem. Why was it that only five cars could unlap themselves but not everyone else?

Again, Masi is clown shoes. I'll never not say this from now on. He needs to go because it's overshadowing Max's win, hell, it's all but tainted it because he won because FIA/Masi are clown shoes. That's not on him or Red Bull though.

Although I agree with most of what you said, I just wanted to point out a factual error in your reasoning. Mercedes could not pit Hamilton, because he was too close to Verstappen and would have lost track position. If the race had not been started again, he would have had no chance to win it back. Mercedes could not risk that. RB on the other hand had to risk it - they had the gap to the next car and couldn't lose anything by pitting. Both teams did not have a choice in the last SC period - they both had to do it that way.

The announcement that lapped cars would not be allowed to overtake came in the middle of the SC period, where it was too late to pit anyway - anyone who would have pitted then would have been at the end of the field, so it did not influence the race anymore.

Masi has made many idiotic decisions this year, so I agree about that with you, but if you're waiting for his resignation, I wouldn't hold my breath.

If I watched the replay right, Sainz is 2 cars behind Max where as Max had 5 between him and Lewis. Sainz by such, is arguably more deserving at a shot for 2nd than Max for 1st.

Why wouldn't a team protest? Not to overturn anything. But to officially log a complaint. If they didn't, it would be forgotten. and that wouldn't be good for anyone.

The good thing about it is, Verstappen is the champ now. Any future complaints of unfair treatment And this will be thrown in Red Bulls face.
