I think you read it wrong, even in a snoozy year still Canada delivers. This season has been anything but that.

Eh, knowing Furi like I do, he hasn't overly enjoyed the season. But I could see how I might have read that wrong as well, good catch. Thank you.

Then you obviously don't have the attention span to watch the race.
No, I don't have the circadian rhythms to watch a race. The Six Hours of Silverstone is usually on between the hours of why-the-hell-am-I-still-awake and please-God-just-let-me-sleep. Which is then followed by me getting up at six in the morning to go to work. If you'd like to deliberately deprive yourself of sleep then try to teach a room of fifteen year-olds how to use anaphora, caesura and syllogism in poetry, be my guest.

At least Grands Prix adjust their start times so that they're on at a relatively sensible hour; I'm usually in bed by midnight. The only reason why I can watch the Canadian Grand Prix live is because Monday is a public holiday.

I am interested in seeing how the new Renault, sorry Tag Heuer, engine in the Red Bull performs down the Canadian straights. You cannot look past Mercedes-AMG for the win but behind them could be very interesting.

Williams have been praying for Canada and Italy to arrive so now is their chance!

So... everyone is going with the OP-softs again I see...

(inb4 someone pulls a no-stop with them, kidding... but maybe someone will)

(Wait, if it's raining, then there might be a 1-stop)

If a driver doesn't run inters/wets then the rules stop them being able to run Soft tyres without changing to/from another compound.

Whoops... my brain forgot about that...

Erm... then 1 stops are likely. Those OP-softs will probably run through the entire race if the drivers were allowed to.

Canada has always been the most strategic race of the season - it has the shortest pit stop time of any venue, so strategy options open up. It would be very possible to two-stop without losing much time, and since both Haas and Renault have foregone the supersofts, some of the midfield teams might need to get creative.

And they're short enough that even if you're halfway around the world and they're on after midnight, you can still watch the whole thing and get a decent night's sleep.

Hoping for a good race.

Yes and no. Because the St-Lawrence serves as a seaway, it does not completely freeze, and certainly not enough to expand all the way to the Notre-Dame island.
True, but it wouldn't take much water to start tearing the road base to shreds. It's enough of a concern thar the surface was designed to counteract it.

Massa wasn't treating the car very well in FP1, video available on Sky F1, might be region-locked. Williams blame a failure of the DRS to completely close as Massa approached Turn 1.

Very weird incident.

There's a suggestion of (another) problem with the wheel, in this case the rear left. From the onboard it looks very strange indeed, he doesn't look too loaded out of the corner and then all hell breaks loose.

EDIT: On the slow-mo onboard replay you can see the revs shoot up just as the super-wobble begins, seems likely it was just a heavy foot.

I think Lewis made the same mistake in 2011 I think at the same spot, it was wet then but that corner has some bumps on it that can catch a driver out.

Good quali overall. The Wall of Champions is clearly extending its charms to the sons of champions from other disciplines.

Surprised how close Vettel turned out to be in the end there, just a tenth off on a power circuit.

Last time I checked the Hondas were very much slowest in the speedtrap but Alonso is still in 10th again. Looks like 10th is his new 5th. That McLaren could definitely touch the front runners once the Honda engine is competitive.

We could be in for a good race. I think we'll see a few cars with brake problems, even by the end of Q2 there were several that seemed to be showering heat/dust from the fronts under braking.

Turn 1 and 2 can be interesting at the start too...

Don't mean to sound like I'm pulling at straws here but how long has Rosberg been running a Bell helmet? I just noticed it today during quali.

Dunno if it affects his pace at all but certain teams prefer some helmets to others. It looks weird seeing him without a Schuberth though.
