Well that was fun.

Ferrari looking much, much stronger than I initially thought after testing. Car's got legs. Nice 1-2! Leclerc was flawless.

Refreshingly weird to see a HAAS in the points after years of suck. And a 5th, to boot! Well done, KMag!

Merc has some work to do, but it's nice seeing Russell getting points. Fortuitous podium for Hamilton.

Speaking of work... McLaren has a lot to do. Jesus. C'mon! You can do it!

Both RedBulls crapping out at the end was a shocker.

Congrats to Zhou on his first points.

I generally dislike Ferrari, but do like Leclerc and Sainz. Not sure how to feel about this
I'm in the same boat.... however seeing how that now they are the only team capable of fighting against Red Bull at this point in time...they will have my support this season. and hopefully Mercedes and/or anybody else who has a good car can join the fray!

Everyone's a Ferrari fan, even if they say they aren't.
Well that's just blatantly false.
I'll never be a fan of a team with such an extensive history of blatant cheating.

As I mentioned a few posts back I do like their drivers though, and Leclerc fully deserved this win.

One wonders if Red Bull's own attempt at handling engines isn't going down as well as they'd hoped... Only Tsunoda's went the distance, after all.

It's impossible to like a team in F1 who haven't been linked with some kind of cheating. And you said you aren't a fan of Ferrari, which means you are really.

Sure, every team has fiddled around with the rules a bit at some point. But where most teams play around in the gray areas, Ferrari has taken it way further than others on many occasions.

Damn, that was an epic first race with the new regs! So nice to see that the new cars are working as intended, they're able to chase and race each other very well. I was really surprised how the field managed to bunch up for a long time until the first round of pit stops came in.

Terrible day for Red Bull, 3 of their engines just went out in the closing stages of the race. But in turn, as the saying goes, Hamilton is inevitable. Managed to snatch a podium even when the Mercs are on the back foot. Haas though, rewarded a sweet sweet P5 for all their efforts. Good stuff from K-Mag and the team.

Looks like the Ferrari master plan is now in full effect, there are no brakes on the hype train :crazy:

Not sure about that. Autosports list of biggest incidents of cheating in F1 features Ferrari cheating as a team once (2010, technically cheating to call in team orders at the time), and linked to 2 in the form of individual cheating from Schumacher (1997 and 2006).

Compared to McLaren's spygate, Renault's crashgate, Benetton's electronic aid-gate. A team order incident is hardly the pinnacle of F1 cheating.

Saudi Arabia is going to be very interesting, such a high speed circuit is going to work the ground effect very hard, any cars with lingering porpoise issues are going to be very vulnerable I feel. Mercedes in particular need to get on top of it in the next few days or they'll be down the back with Aston Martin.

I ended up getting the subscription on again to see the first race. I forgot how awful those stupid comments Crofty makes are. So damn cringy, what the hell was that song?
Croft and Kravitz as irritating as ever. Croft's most egregious was the fight between Verstappen and Leclerc; it was a good three lap back-and-forth and Croft pretending to be out of breath overselling it like it was Senna vs Mansell. Kravitz going into full Alan Partridge mode when the safety car came out. There is nothing that Kravitz offers that couldn't be done with a text message at the foot of the screen; he takes five minutes to overexplain something that would take two seconds (hur hur) to read.

Wasn't a bad race to watch. Great result for Haas getting points early doors. Pleased for Bottas regaining his positions after a poor start. Mercedes-Benz certainly don't look like they'll romp away this year. The double DNF for Red Bull is a bit of surprise laughter but I'm actually going to avoid F1 Twitter for a day or two because all it'll do is make the obnoxious even more obnoxious.

What happened with the McLaren? I was hoping to see them in the top 10 but things are not looking good at all right now! The looked so good during testing.

Also, is it me or all the cars with the Merc engine are all really struggling with the lack of pace and the bouncing effect?

Best start imaginable for Ferrari but they've had hot starts before only to falter as teams bring upgrades. The major question with RB is whether their issues are all interrelated and easily correctable; Horner suggests a fuel pump. For once, Mercedes is not sandbagging and even if they can get the porpoising under control, they don't seem to have any straightline speed at all. Not much mention of Russell but seems like he's much closer to Hamilton's race pace compared to Bottas.

As for the rest of the field, HAAS may be in midfield contention again along with Alpha Tauri, Alpine and Alfa. No standout worst car but McLaren was absolutely nowhere the entire weekend.

The big caveat to everything I said is that the first race hasn't always been indicative of what the seasons turns out to be.

LeClerc is such a troll.

I did a bit of a joke on the radio on the last lap saying there was something strange with the engine! Which gave a heart attack to some of the engineers I’m sure but everything was fine, so very happy that we brought it home.

Great to see Ferrari back at long last, and a very sweet 1-2 indeed. The Ferrari looks great, both performance wise and visually - what a stunning car, and that dark red finish is wicked.

Verstappen sounded like a petulant child (again) and completely lost his cool, and to see both Red Bulls fail was rather poetic. Sad for Perez, but Verstappen retiring made me chuckle loudly.

Good result for Mercedes even though they are clearly on the back foot. However, who the hell designed that butt ugly livery? It's vomit-inducingly bad.

As a McLaren fan, this was a hard watch - they are seriously struggling, and sadly I don't think they are going to be competitive this season.

I expect Red Bull and Verstappen will be back very soon, but it's great to see some serious competition from Ferrari this season. Max needs to grow up quickly - he's not going to get many more race wins handed to him on a plate.
