I was told they already were already cheering and doing the wave.

It's witchcraft! I always knew there was something strange about the people up in those hills :)

(and that would be indeed an embarrassment)

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that if the accident had looked worse he'd have got a round of applause as he extricated himself from the car. It's just how crowds are at big sporting events, cheering an opponent's misfortune is the equivalent of the "waaaaay!" that goes up in a pub when somebody drops a glass.

EDIT: Why do the car's tail lights come on just before the impact? Anti-stall (he was still in 6th)? Pre-programmed harvesting position? Automatic warning system that the car's about to hit a wall :) ?

That look like the same kind of random snap on the curb that sent Lewis to a near-miss and ended Bottas race in Germany.

Doesn't really change the fact it's childish to cheer a rival opponent crashing, regardless if one or every one does it. Makes for boring racing afterwards if there's 1 less competitor.

It's just part of the sport, just like cheering when the opposing team gives out a penalty in rugby or if the opposition scores an own goal.

It's sport and if you can't get excited when your teams or drivers rival makes an error and crashes, then we've gone to a pretty sad place.

Sad is exactly that if you find an opponent crashing the ticket to your favorite driver finding an even easier win. As if the sport isn't boring enough when Lewis & Max are literally the only people with a shot at the title halfway through the season.

??????
Utterly lost here mate, if you want an exciting race, then the CLEAR championship leader crashing out and possibly having to start from the back.... would make the race far more exciting...

Also, not sure if you watched any of the practice sessions, but the Ferrari's have the pace and seem a good match for each other...

Except none of that is known. Lewis could just as easily grab pole again today. The fact is all of this happened on a FP day makes the cheers even more stupid; a guy crashes in practice.

I couldn’t care less what pace Ferrari sets on FP either. They haven’t won a race yet despite always setting good pace.

With 1.5 seconds per lap, it might actually be hard for Ferrari to screw up their strategy tomorrow.

Edit: Bad weekend for engines. Massive luck for Verstappen to get his lap in before the red flag.

We should have a very interesting race tomorrow....at least I hope so because supposedly Mercedes are faster on race trim so let's see how that plays out with Ferrari locking up the front row!

Great job Charles, that was a great lap!

Ferrari 1 & 2 during quali was expected but they still have to do it and they did! Great lap Charles.
0,748 gap with teammate Sebastian who complained about the traffic mess.

And now let's see the race pace of Mercedes and RedBull tomorrow. Again an interesting "cold and dry" race

Over 10s of thousands of miles of qualifying it only ever causes a problem when teams and drivers don't do their job right. It isn't a problem. There are too many overbearing rules in F1 as it is, that's what's killing the show if anything is.

This happens nearly every race. Just look at that log jam at the end of Q3. At least 3 instances today alone. It IS a problem.

I disagree, and the way we've actually got a good grid at a good track backs me up. In my opinion, as is surely obvious.

@TenEightyOne Quali queuing still not a problem? Q1 with Max and both Q2 and (maybe slightly less) Q3.

As much as I want Leclerc to finally win a damn race, I would also like to see Verstappen win in front of his “home” crowd

Oh god, the F1 kids are there for the national anthem. This is so hard... Hubert was barely older than them. I can only imagine the thoughts going through their heads. :(
