I'm on a 30 second delay but this race is turning into one of attrition.

That was quite close to collecting the Alpine as well

Red flag, Russell screwed over

Race has been red flagged!

Well, that sucks major butt for Russell, doesn't it?

Must be to rebuild the Tecpro and sweep the track, that's a lot of gravel on a crucial and fast corner.

Now Lewis and Max get a "Free Tire Change"
I wish they would make it illegal to change tires, or parts during a red flag.
If things need to be changed, you get sent to the back of the grid.

Parts maybe, but yeah tyre changes need to be stopped. They've ruined too many races now with this rule.

It should have an exception for changing weather though. If the red flag is caused by sudden rain, and not everyone is on wet tires yet, you need them to switch to rain tires for safety, and they would have pitted that lap anyway. Sending them to the back in that case seems overly harsh.

Jenson Button on commentary had a good idea - if you need to change the tyres, then they have to be of the same type.

You may not have tires of the same type left though, and if you already had changed tires before (to fill your required two types of tire), it could still be a big advantage if your current tires are worn out

So, is a rolling start off of a red flag no longer a thing?

Oh Christ, Lewis. :indiff:

Soooo, Lewis nearly caused a pile up at the back by doing that elephant walk, it seems.

If you don't have any remaining sets of the same type (this could be written into the rules by saying you must have two sets of each type for the race), then you can't change tyres under red flag.

But then there's still the safety aspect, where you may need to change

Redbulls have lost all their pep.
Perez has no made any gains, Max having a hard time getting good starts.

Then back of the grid you go.
That just makes it more unfair based on different strategies.
E.g.
Driver 1: Hard -> Soft -> (Red flag) Free new soft
Driver 2: Soft -> Hard -> (Red flag) Can't get their planned soft

Assuming both drivers were getting ready to pit anyway

That shouldn't be allowed. Stewards will probably do nothing about it though.

Looks like Checo is picking up the pace a bit.

No further investigation on the restart procedures.

And Russell's PU is on fire!

It's not a perfect plan, and it's not assuming that driver 2 has a second set of hards available. The alternative is driver 2 not to change tyres.
