If Mercedes have not yet fully made a Decision on Bottas or Russell.
I wonder if him getting P2 will have any real influence.

I personally think they will resign Bottas to keep Hamilton happy.
Hamilton kinda admitted he prefers Bottas and its not hard to see why.
Bottas will always move over.
But Mercedes also needs to think about the long term. If they don't move Russell to Mercedes, at some point Russell will go somewhere else. Hamilton and Bottas are reaching the end of their careers, and Mercedes needs Russell for the future.

True, but they might be thinking about the here and now such as getting lewis is X WC championship crown.

The "Russell could go somewhere else"-scenario is very unlikely in my opinion. Because the question would be where? Alongside Max to RB with all their other youngsters were they invested a lot of money kicked for many years? No. Ferrari? Leclerc and Sainz are fixed with a possible future candidate in Schumacher. No. Alpine? Ocon is fixed with Alonso. Stroll and Seb are fixed at Aston, maybe 23 but I would think more possible in 24. That could be the step up before Merc but not very likely. McLaren? to be Landos sidekick? Also Ric will stay. So no.

And the next question would be how? 10 year contract with Wolff as manager. As long as he doesn't want to let him off George will go nowhere else he want him to go.
Also it is a 100% seat at Mercedes (or Ineos F1) as soon as Lewis is gone. Why throw this away to drive in something from the midfield or where the No. 1 "youngster" is already fixed for the future (Max - RB, Lec - Fer, Nor- McL, Oco - Alp)?

Alfa Romeo has apparently changed Kimi Raikkonen's rear wing (because wet) so he'll now start last. Which is only two places worse than he qualified.

Just cause a team has a contract with someone is meaningless.
I mean Seinz had a contract with Pink Mercedes, yet they booted him for Vettel.

There were rumors that Ricciardo would be axed, but the team principal said that is not going to happen.

Mazepin has soared to the dizzying heights of 18th.

EDIT: And Perez is in the wall.

You mean Perez? Also totally different scenarios putting a multiple WDC like Vettel in the car to getting a rookie out of a backmarkers car. Also Perez was only barely faster than Stroll in the pink Merc. Got a lucky win while Merc failed and now we see the same scenario at Red Bull. He is just not as good as it seems. He can be very quick on good days but way too often he is nowhere and makes stupid mistakes like today or at the spring in Silverstone, etc.. Still can't understand the early new contract when there are the RB-Youngsters like Gasly and Albon or even Hülkenberg available who can do the same or better.

Yeah it was Perez.
But Perez was still under contract.
Unless there was a clause such as Poor performance or we will pay you out.
Perez is not a bad driver seeing as he is in 5th in the WDC and only 9pts behind 3rd.

One of the main criticisms of whoever occupied the "cursed" second seat in recent years was that they simply weren't doing enough to make Mercedes think, i.e splitting strategies, simply because they would be stuck in the midfield or off the pace to such a degree that Merc could simply factor them out of the equation. On a number of occasions already this year Perez has been there in the mix or forced Merc into difficult calls (leaving Bottas to dry in France for example).

No race for Perez. Nice job again. Really good No. 2 and totally deserved new contract :scared:

They're not able to fix?
If they can change a suspension part for max in <10min, they cant fix Perez's car in 20min?

Didn't wake up in time to see what Perez did, but I guess he did more damage to his car than can be fixed, even with start delays?

They would have needed to finish 10 minutes before the original start time to start from the grid if I renember correctly.

Pit start is allowed if you finish later, but not sure if that was possible

Front right corner was completely damaged. That wasn't Max-Hungary-damage. Also he couldn't drive away like Max could. No chance.

I think it's nore comparable to Max at Monaco a few years ago, when he crashed in FP3, and they weren't able to finish in time for qualy.
