Did a little practice earlier, i'm about 3 tenths off the time I know I can do and what I will be entering.

I've done a time 8 tenths quicker than my current best time and that was invalidated for the final few corners. It did not give me an advantage which was annoying as I did my best sector times and the final part is usually quite easy to get right.

I think I will give it another go and hopefully improve my time and I will enter it as I don't want to spend too much time on it. I think if I do a lap 4 tenths off my quickest invalidated lap, I will enter it as it will be reasonably fast but off the pace of the top guys on the leaderboards by quite a large margin, still in the region of seconds.

No onboard lap from me this week. Instead feel the pressure from the alien known as Sebastian Vettel.

I'm assuming that time is in GMT? And I didn't get as many laps in as I hoped, only 30 or so compared to the usual 60 :embarrassed:

I managed to do four valid laps today, only two of which were quick. Is it OK if I submit it now as I'm getting frustrated with myself messing up all the time on good laps. Strange my fastest lap which I did was not strong in the first two sectors which I usually gain at least 1-4 tenths and in the end had to make it up in the final sector which I usually lose or spin the car on a good lap. I think the time is reasonably competitive (Not last place I hope) and should score some good points. At least I'm guaranteed some unless more people join if it is allowed.

Looking at Vettel's lap, the braking points are very similar in game but in real life he can brake quicker it seems. Maybe due to different downforce levels but amazing how similar the braking points are but the cornering speeds seem off though by quite a bit in the game. I'm looking forward to see how F1 2011 looks without that filter that makes everything look dull / yellow.

Anyway do I need to PM you my time with a picture on the leaderboard to confirm my time?

By the way what is the 10th and 20th fastest time on the PC leaderboard? I want to see if the PC version is faster as on YouTube all the quick times seem to be on the PC version. Maybe all the better sim racers are on there I don't know but it does seem easier judging by videos to do a quick lap time but that could be just due to a better driver and setup. Maybe the extra FPS helps to be more precise and also it is easier to record your laps to upload.

Of course you can submit at any time you want, but I honestly wouldn't advise submitting a time this early because once it's submitted there's no "Hey, look, I set a faster lap. Can I submit this one instead?", the answer is going to be "No.", so be sure you can't go any faster before submitting a time.

As for your second question, yes, you need to PM me your time with proof. Leaderboard will do but as I have no real recollection of when that time was posted, if you're going to use a leaderboard time as proof then I'll be forced to ask for proof of the lap during the session...which as you can see would negate the leaderboard proof altogether. As for the final question, all of the top 10 times now seem to be exploits of some kind; some dude going by the name of 'ACaliforniaGuy' went around Monaco (I think it was Monaco) in 58.xxx, which is incredibly impossible, and there's also a time for Monza set around 1:01.xxx...which again is impossible.

So they're really nothing to go on at this point. All of the top 10, 20, 30, or 50 times I've ever posted on the LB have been moved up to the 90's, 100's, or even 1,000s because of people who exploit whatever it is they're exploiting.

EST. I'll provide a TZ converter in the OP so you'll know what the deadline is native to your location.

I normally wouldn’t submit this early but it can get frustrating and I got something else to do and will give me a reason not to spend extra time trying to beat it. If I find I’m too slow when you reveal the results, then I will try even harder the next round but certainly round 3 when I have more free time, I will push harder than ever to do a top time.

When you say proof of the lap during the session, what do you mean by that? I can give save time proof but I guess that can be rigged but I only just did the time and yesterday morning I didn’t even have a time on the leaderboards. Will I be able to give the proof you asking now for as I already turned my PS3 off after setting it or will I need to do another lap?

What is the top genuine time then for Albert Park on PC? There are not that many fakes on the PS3 version, well fast fakes anyway.

Sure, PM me whatever proof you have now and I'll keep the time until the results go up on Saturday or Sunday morning.

As for the genuine fastest lap I'll have to check. I'm about to get some time in in a few minutes anyway, so I'll let you know.

Did you find out the time?

Oh, crap! I'll remember to check later on today.
No problem, will wait until then.

This is an example of a fast lap on the PC version.

I tried braking as late but my tyres get locked to much to be able to turn so quick and carry so much speed. I tried the persons setup which he posted at racedepartment.com and could not get near his time. I changed the setup to something that suited my style better and started beating my personal bests quite quickly. I think I need to improve on braking though as he only is quicker by quite a margin through some of the turns but I'm not sure how he pulls out over a second from me just through a couple of turns.

I'm up for a bit of f1 time trialling, if that's ok.

Just to clarify I do my fastest legal lap, take a picture of the screens, indicating the time, then submit before the deadline.

Put me down for the red bull -rb6.
The name will be Roger Mellie.

After many many invalid laps, I finally put a clean lap together, and it was my quickest ever around melbourne.
Not going to attempt to beat it.

Quick question T, are you going to be competing as well?

Of course.

On an aside, I think I've spent too much time at Monaco. I'm slow around Albert Park now. :grumpy:

Yep.

Awesome.

A little teaser of my lap.

First sector; 26.849 IIRC.

Awesome, I already know you have beaten me. Could you PM me your setup as we both done with the trial (Pretty please).

I would like to try and see where I'm losing time from you in my driving.

I used the default set up, furthest to the right.

Didn't change anything.

I used to do that as it was the quickest for me but decided to try a custom setup from racedepartment.com and didn't try the quick default setups. I will see how close I can get to your sector time and if I find it slower or faster than the setup I did my time with. I think you have won this trial though, that first sector is close to alien speed. Don't know how fast the others will be though.

Edit: I just tried with that setup and I can keep close to my personal best reasonably well but I prefer the setup I used, probably because I was using more downforce. Anyway just looked at your post history and noticed you won the last championship similar to this one. Looks like I will have to raise my game a lot to have a chance of beating you.

By the way do you use ABS or TCS and if so to what level? What steering wheel do you use as well? Any tips to drive fast as you :sly:?

Time submitted.

Just ABS, no tc and i've got a g25.

Get the line right and learn the braking points.

Using a custom setup here that's doing me no good as I can't go around nearly as quick as I used to.

Damn Monaco...

I do know the braking points and lines. It's just the ability to get the car turned in as quick. I think it's mainly due to braking. Do you go full on the brakes or do partial braking for the high speed corners.

I think I need to improve my ability to turn my wheel quicker. I also might get a new wheel, but will wait for Logitech to update their products to a belt system. The problem with the DFGT is the noise and it being not as quick to turn makes it not very good for drifting / makes more hard work of things but it is good for just driving normal road cars. Shifting is very good for F1 cars though.

It is the first time I'm trying to push the car a lot in this game as I don't play it much and hopefully with time I get better at understanding the physics. I'm fully aware though that learning to drive faster is very hard, as it is hard to learn speed when you feel like you are pushing quite a lot in turns already.

I have a feeling you might run away with this championship like the last time. Anyone else do a sector time as quickly as LewyOs? I think at best I could have come within 6 tenths of your time if I pushed hard and got lucky with doing my best sectors all in one lap. Yes I accidentally found out your time and you can guess how.

Your excuses of Monaco is nearly as good as mine. PC version being maybe quicker or my wheel being worse . I have realised I need to step up my game and go to alien levels to have chance of winning this. I did my first online race at Monaco I think or on the same weekend on the race. Qualified 2nd or 3rd in a Virgin and managed to win the race. It was set on 2010 performance and managed to hold off a Toro Rosso for the whole race and the person quit on the last lap which was funny as he span trying to get close. It was a fun experience as I knew I had no room for error and went flat out all the way.

Word of advice, I can't compare myself with anyone else here other than Lewy...but he's not going to be your only problem.

Here, he most likely will be though.

Yeh its pretty easy to find out the times. What do you think to allowing discussion of lap times during an event T?

You know his time, so do I and it is remarkable how good it is for just using a quick setup. It is probably one of the fastest if not the fastest time done with one on this track. I'm not really giving anything away as you have to be insanely fast to do that first sector time anyway.

Anyway it will be interesting to see the pecking order come Saturday, I will be happy if I'm at least somewhere in the middle and I hopefully can build upon that.

Sector time discussion more or less gives things away on how fast you are. Also if the person is really fast then you notice the time straight away on leaderboards so is their much point in not letting people know lap times others have done? I guess it will help push others more if we are allowed to discuss lap times, a bit like in real life qualifying where people know what time they have to do on their second run.

I thought I mentioned that was waived already? Go right ahead. I'm on my way to upload proof of my recent (not final) lap. Finally breaking into my old territory. :D

Meant to post this up earlier but I caught up in playing another game.

The absolute fastest around Albert Park is 1:08.xxx, which as far as I'm concerned, is impossible. From there it goes to 1:10.xxx and up; 11's, 14's, 16's, 18's, 20's, 21's, etc, etc.

I think anything around high 18s / low 19s might be possible. I think times closer to 20s are more realistic to have been done genuinely as that is what makes up the top PS3 leaderboard times.

When you say upload proof, are you on about YouTube video? Any sector or lap time information you can give now :sly:? Want to see if you have already beaten my time and if I've got any chance to be on the podium :).

Just saw the F1 wheel made by Fanatec. I wonder if it will be priced cheap at all / cheap for Fanatec :sly:. I might get it depending on price. Logitech really need to refresh their wheel line up.

No, I meant this:

If you can't read the time all too clearly, it's 1:23.662; don't worry about the DRS and KERS indicator, both are inactive and can't be used (nothing but aesthetic).

Do you think you can take two seconds of your time? I hope to be on the podium but I don't know how fast others will be.
