Let's talk sound

Overall I think it's quite nice. Some of the effects sound a little too 'canned' and T10 still has never heard what a 3 rotor actually sounds like (this sounds more like a highly tuned, peripheral port 2 rotor, which for that it actually sounds good) but overall I think it's a step up from FM3. They are still just mixing all of the noise together, and the cockpit view is basically the same noise as the exterior (what sound insulation??)

I'm not sure what you mean by "canned" and the rotory sounds fine to me (not the biggest rotory fan though) but as for your last little bit. It's very apparent to me that sounds are different when racing from cockpit view compared to bonnet/chase cams.

The blow off valve sound effects sound a little too contrived. It does sound like a rotary, just not the right one. That's like saying a V12 sounds right even if it sounds identical to a straight 4 just because it's a piston engine. And sorry, the cockpit noise is identical, with perhaps subtle balance and volume changes.

I posted this on my group's forums. I guess you guys can also use a heads up.

WARNING FOR THOSE WITH GOOD SOUND SYSTEMS:

Muscle Cars: When you first race them bring a towel you wont use again, fresh underwear and close the door.
That is all.

They sound more muffled in cockpit to me.
If you purchase the most expensive weight reduction then it makes the interior view just as loud as the outside car view. 👍
Oh and make sure to buy the best exhaust and largest cam. All 3 of these combined and the audio is just amazing. Pure muscle! :)

Yep...wet myself last night. I was surprised the neighbors didnt knock on the door.

Just wait until you drive the 1968 Dodge Dart HEMI Super Stock. WOW that thing is just sick sounding!!

I have it....with big drag slicks on it...and yes, I wet the second pair of shorts I put on when i started testing it on the top gear 1/4 mile. I thought the GTO sounded the best but that thing is SICK. I overly satisfied with this game, and I hate DLC but will be getting the season pass. This will be played until FM5 comes out.

I said that as a good thing eh eh,that is sound inside the car is not the same as the bumper cam, like a user was saying before me:)

I think the sound in the game is some of the best I've heard from a console racer. It's world's better then GT5's sound, but the GT series has never been very strong with the audio.

First day I was in love with the mk3 vr6 grid sound in stock and slight mod form.
last night I bought and semi build a BMW 2002 turbo, race exhaust only, modified everything else and wow... wow... it was midnight and I wanted to crank my surround up

Anyone notice crackling in-race? a la Forza 3? Maybe my in-game volume is set too high?

I have the same problem here, it's more frequent when you rewind during a race. I'll try it on a different TV (I'm plugged to a computer screen linked to a stereo sound system). I hope it's not an issue with my Xbox...

The only thing I don't like about the sound on this game is on the replay, no doppler effect. :(

But maan! The sound while racing is just amazing! I wish PD take note on this game in sound department.

Yeah about rotarys, the fc full racing exhaust sounds almost exactly what my N/a did when it had a high flow cat, thing metal and flowmaster 40s. Not the best but its very close.

Very, very nice. Music to the ears. The Silvia especially caught my ear, having been inside a tuned one many many years back. I applaud Turn 10, they replicated the sound nicely. 👍

I wonder how good my old chariot(SW22 with a lightly tuned 1st gen 3SGTE) sounds in Forza 4. :)

It must be a bug. I get it running the sound through my computer via optical. I may also have had it using my TV speakers as well.

Lol, thread full of some blind people who are somehow deaf. Sound inf Forza 4 while sounds very nice and supposedly authentic is a mixed bag. Since when does a stock Suzuki make so much noise? What kind of madness is that? There is barely any difference between in car sounds versus outside car sound effects, they are both almost at the same sound level and trust me I have been playing this game since it landed on my doorstep on tuesday morning.

I actually posted a large piece on FM4, it's a great game no denying that but the soud department reminds me of EA NFS series where they embellish the sounds of engines. Sorry but most of the sounds are basically carry overs from the last game as are all the old courses nothing has been updated statistically about any of the carry overs. While they look pretty, accuracy that is a whole other ball game.

The canny sounds the OP is talking about, you can hear very plain in the Ferrari 458 Italia, no matter what view you use that car sounds the same , unless you look backward then the sound position changes, but in car, out of car the same and it sounds like it's being played through an old phone just that someone recorded it and added equalization to "beef" it up.

Anyone played with the E39 M5? What engine sound is that? Sounds very odd for a V8 and a BMW V8 at that. Anyway, I will do more checking to see why my cars are sounding so loud. I don't know why, but I can't see a stock vehicle making so much noise from the interior of it, it just throws me off a bit. It's like I have to turn the sound down because the cars default have such loud engines by default. Are all my cars coming with race exhausts installed?
