Forza 4 Sound thread.

Lol, thread full of some blind people who are somehow deaf. Sound inf Forza 4 while sounds very nice and supposedly authentic is a mixed bag. Since when does a stock Suzuki make so much noise? What kind of madness is that? There is barely any difference between in car sounds versus outside car sound effects, they are both almost at the same sound level and trust me I have been playing this game since it landed on my doorstep on tuesday morning.

I actually posted a large piece on FM4, it's a great game no denying that but the soud department reminds me of EA NFS series where they embellish the sounds of engines. Sorry but most of the sounds are basically carry overs from the last game as are all the old courses nothing has been updated statistically about any of the carry overs. While they look pretty, accuracy that is a whole other ball game.

The canny sounds the OP is talking about, you can hear very plain in the Ferrari 458 Italia, no matter what view you use that car sounds the same , unless you look backward then the sound position changes, but in car, out of car the same and it sounds like it's being played through an old phone just that someone recorded it and added equalization to "beef" it up.

Anyone played with the E39 M5? What engine sound is that? Sounds very odd for a V8 and a BMW V8 at that. Anyway, I will do more checking to see why my cars are sounding so loud. I don't know why, but I can't see a stock vehicle making so much noise from the interior of it, it just throws me off a bit. It's like I have to turn the sound down because the cars default have such loud engines by default. Are all my cars coming with race exhausts installed?
I noticed that if its a stock car with stock exhaust, stock interior, it sounds like it should. Quite inside and a little louder outside.

Then when you purchase the most expensive weight reduction it removes the carpet, and most of the interior, which results in a much louder car inside the car to match the outside of the car. Just like real life. Especially if you purchase the exhaust upgrade. I think they truly nailed the exhaust audio in this game. Its close to perfect IMO. 👍

Actually the Suzuki is quite raspy in real life and going by the videos it doesn't sound at all like a super car. It's just got that raspy sound when you push it.

Actually i almost didn't answer given the fact i'm a newbie here and i don't really want to get into problems, but that 2nd paragraph kind of threw me off, talking about carry overs, track accuracy etc.Actually it looked more like an attempt to take a hit at the game rather then provide anything else, comparing it to NFS etc.

Do you know what carry over means? Means the assets they used in FM3 are used in FM4. The tracks are the same just prettier, they weren't actually updated, all the cars from FM3 were carried over flaws and all. Grab the Toyota GT1 race and look at the front headlights, identical to the one found in FM3 and FM2, now if you look up that actual car from the same year on the web you can see that the headlights are indeed wrong. The courses are exactly the same, mostly too wide, too smooth.

Take a hit at the game? Lol, I have the Limited Edition FM4, on tuesday got the game with my bonus of ~30 cars before I even started playing. About 5% in now, just over 1 million credits and over 50 cars by now. I'm just stating factual information by the looks of things. It's a great game so far, but some people like to pretend things are all fine when in fact that is far from the truth. If you really followed Forza, you would know exactly what I am talking about

As for the sounds I'm not too sure yet, but to me it's too loud. Cars shouldn't be heard like that while the windows are closed, even if you are pushing them. Mind you I have the music on in game and the engine sound still competes with that easily. It's like I'm driving with my doors wide open, and yes some car sounds do sound a bit canny or tinny. Might be a bug in the system perhaps Turn10 will get a fix on that, like they got a fix on that 30fps rear view mirror issue and the pixelated side view mirrors when in car. Care to try again?

Nice videos, and in the video of FM4 do you not hear how loud the engine of the E39 M5 is, and it's from inside the car? The real video the guy had the window open, because you can actually hear wind noise when he lets off the gas, the engine sound it dampened but in FM4 it isn't, sounds like you are in the engine bay itself. The engine sound is very close to the real thing that's for sure, but the volume in and out isn't correct. It's just a jarring effect on me which is annoying as I have to turn the sound down because it's over powering everything else.

I'm not trying anything.I just don't see it as a big thing, in over 500 cars some have some modelling problems, it's ok with me honestly. Most people that were passionate about the sound, state that in Forza 4 is way superior and i just wanted to show that they're similar because some cars even if little cars might have a raspy sound. And yes i played Forza and i know there are problems with it.

As for the track accuracy, besides Nurburgring i don't see any problems, in fact you're the first person i've seen talking about smooth surface in F4, i know they are smooth in F3 though. As a person that used to laser scan roads while in college i tend to look at this track accuracy discussion with a more careful approach, visually they look pretty on par to me, if they are accurate to real life, that's a whole different subject since when measuring something like a road surface you're doing at a milimeter level but even so, the software to where you bring the data will do triangulation to get the final layout.

Ah ok, you were talking about the sound effect in and outside the car, i thought you were mentioning accuracy of the sound itself to a particular car.Yes it sounds loud, i think they justified this by saying that not all people get to play with 5.1 systems and that they have to account for the ones using a tv set which can bring the sound down a lot.Personally i use either wireless headphones or 2.1 speakers which is enough for me.

Savage, I don't think you have been playing the game anywhere as long as you claim.

1st off, the sound does change from the cockpit view from the outside. The AutoVista mode is the best proof of this; close & open the door and the sound changes volume.

2nd, yes the tracks have been updated. Bogie can walk you through the entire update of Road America. So no, they're not just prettier.

Auto vista? What are you talking about? Please tell me you are joking, since when can you drive the car in autovista? Best proof is in the pudding, when you actually drive the car in the game...autovista as proof, such nonsense.

I will go run this course as I have rarely run it so far in season mode, but from all the returning courses I have driven on they look identical aside from the different time of day and sharper visuals and better lighting. I've been playing Forza since it showed up back on the original xbox, heck i still have that game and played it a few weeks ago. I know what I'm saying when I tell you that when it comes to course accuracy FM has always taken liberties, and are still doing it today all in the name of fun so says Greenawalt.

He only said that about Nurburgring though or am i confusing things?

Anyway as for track accuracy see my previous post.

Road Atlanta is quite different as well in some areas.

Not talking about driving though I figured that would have passed over you. I'm talking about the sound you claim to be wrong. The cars sound different from the interior view compared to the outside. I brought up AutoVista because you don't actually have to change views to notice it. Start the car, open/shut the door; the sound changes.

And again, you must not be that far into the game or are you're just completely blind to details. The tracks have been updated to include accuracy. Hell, the game showcased the new improvements of Road America before they were even officially revealed during the ALMS race.

Yeah, I'm running it through optical. Dag nabbit!

Dag nabbit is right! Optical cable too and I get the same audio pop. At least I haven't experienced a stuck sound effect yet. That was by far my biggest issue with FM3. I shift by sound and when I'm at 8 grand but the sound effect is stuck on 5 grand, it really screwed me up more than a handful of times.

I run optical cable to a Monarchy Audio tube D/A converter to Wright WPL 20 tube pre amp to Marchland tube crossover to Yamamoto 45 tube/Altec 511B horns for highs, Innersound Electrostatic amp/Maggies for lows. I haven't had any sound problems so far. I wish Xbox used coax digital cable, optical is inferior.

I'm at driver level 48 right now. Overall I really like the car sounds. A couple of them, like the Hemi Dodge Superbee, is a lot of noise without distinct engine rev related sound so it's hard to tell what RPM you are at or even if you are bouncing off the rev limiter unless you turn it up so loud it hurts.

On the other the hand the Zonda R sound is monumental as it goes red-line. It's cars like these that make you want to drive them just to listen to them.

The fix for that was easy. Play any music through the xbox and pause it. The sound hang was caused by the games music changing and playing your own music was the only way to turn off the games music. Having it's volume all the way down still had the music playing.

Just wanted to say the Audi R8 is almost 100% like real life.

I drove an R8 at exotics racing in Las Vegas and as soon as I drove one in Forza 4 the sound came back to me. Can't believe how good it is, wish the r8's in GT5 sounded even close to this.

Are you serious?! This plagued me for the past 2 years and I never knew there was a workaround!

This game sounds amazing. I don't know how anyone can say the sounds are carried from FM3, this is leaps and bounds ahead of that thanks to the sound engineer from Bizarre that did PGR.

IF the car has the weight reduction then yes it does indeed sound very close to the same inside the car as it sounds outside. Thats realistic because the carpet is removed and all the sound deadning material. I actually love how it deos this. But ONLY if the car has the highest level of weight reduction. Oh and it also needs the most expensive exhaust upgrade. Combine those 2 things and the audio is indeed the same inside and outside. But without those, it is much quieter on the inside view. They truly nailed the audio in F4. 👍

I do get the crackling once in a while that was mentioned a few posts back. But its not very often.

I posted this on my group's forums. I guess you guys can also use a heads up.

WARNING FOR THOSE WITH GOOD SOUND SYSTEMS:

Muscle Cars: When you first race them bring a towel you wont use again, fresh underwear and close the door.
That is all.

For some reason I hear nothing from my subwoofer when driving. The bass kicks during menu music. But even with muscle cars theres no rumble. I have it set to dolby digital but I'm only using the front 3 channels and the sub. (no rear channels connected) Do you get a lot of kick from the sub from the engine?

Make sure the audio slider in game is all the way to the right. Then you can experiement with the other audio settings. There is also a setting that sets the focus on the engine, tires, or everything. That makes a huge difference. And to answer your question about the sub kicking, my entire house shakes when I am using a muscle car. Especially the Dodge Dart with full racing exhaust and full weight reduction. 👍

The sound is what made me bought an xbox 360, kinect. So long GT5. Forza 4 is so much better. Now I have to get a new wheel just to play this game. Wish I never gotten the G27. Sigh.

I love when you go through a tunnel, man sounds so real. I wish the had a track with a long ass tunnel, like a mile long, just to hear those engine sounds!!!

Thats exact the same reason why i'm thinking of buying it. But i'm also stuck with a DFGT

Get an AE86 and give it a full cam, full exhaust, air filter, and intake.
Then go to Fujimi and drive through a tunnel at high rpm.
