Had PD focused on premium content ONLY and making features consistent throughout the game you would not see the vast majority of complaints about GT5 and it's faults throughout.

Exactly this. People need to understand that PD decided for whatever reason to add in the extra 80% of the cars on their roster for us to use, instead of cutting them out of the game completely, like they did with GT3. Its lose / lose, because if they removed them, everyone would cry about the small car list.

It just takes waaaaay to long to create these premium cars unfortunately, but I do appreciate the effort put into them, because as we all know, they look fantastic, if only they sounded the part as well. As much as a perfectionist everyone says that Kaz is, GT5 shows how this is so not true. Corporate runs things, and if you don't manage your time properly and focus on the main objective of your product, it will all seem like one unfinished mess.

Though I still love it, it could have been so much better. FM4 lacks certain things, but overall its such a better overall product, there is absolutely no denying that.

This.

There's a number of things i'd like to improve in FM4, and a number of small bug/glitches are one of them. But when taken on the whole, the game is pretty damn impressive.

Playing FM4 and GT5 is like eating burgers...

At Turismo King, I get:
  • The best meat in town (premium cars)
  • A small petty (not that many premium cars)
  • Old, hard breat (standard cars)
  • Pickles and tomatoes (time shift and weather)
  • Only a single pickle and two wee tomato slices (only on a very few tracks)
  • Awful, wringled salat (awful sound)
  • Rotten cheese (awful customization)
  • A splat of ketchup (relatively simple multiplayer)
  • A stale water (DLC support is rather disappointing)

At Mc Forza's, I get:
  • Good meat (cars)
  • A good sized petty (lots of them)
  • Fresh bread (no standard cars)
  • No tomatoes, and there's only half an old pickle (no weather, only a fistful of tracks having a dusk setting)
  • Great Salad (great sound)
  • The best cheese in town (very good customization)
  • The secret recepy barbecue sauce (quite varied multiplayer, leaderboards, rivals mode etc.)
  • /edit: Oh, and a slice of bacon (social features like car clubs, store front, acution house and so on)
  • A fresh, cold beer from the tab (continuous and generally good DLC support)

At both places, I can get good fries (physics) to my meal, by the way.

Now, personally, the additional pickles and tomatoes don't make Turismo King's burger much better, and neither does the small petty, no matter how good it is. All around, I'd rather eat at Mc Forza's, as the whole meal is better, in my opinion.

Sure, if you're absolutely into tomatoes and pickles, willing to throw the bread away and get by with that small petty, dislike cheese anyways and prefer ketchup over a good barbecue sauce, I can see why you'd prefer Turismo King's burger. I'll stick with what I perceive to be the better package, though.

Exactly, simply Turn 10 wanted to make using a controller viable because they made a game and wanted pad users to still be able to enjoy the game. Its that simple business sense that means Forza will still be around in years to come, and its the reason there will never be a game called Shift 3.

I had no choice but the set up my wheel everytime i wanted to play Shift 2 cause the game with a controller was unplayable.
Its actually nice to sometimes just sit back and paint some cars, take some pictures and then just blast around with a pad, without the need to always HAVE to set up my wheel.

Its this simple choice which is where Turn 10 get my credit. To try at every post to start a 'wheel user vs pad user' battle is both childish and pointless.......

:banghead:

Nope its not. But you said pad users shouldnt be allowed to race with wheel users and they should be kicked from lobby................... i'm disagreeing with you as i dont care who is using what in a lobby, just so long as they dont smash me off the track at the first chance....... that should be the only real concern online....not the persons choice of controller.....:irked:

If I had the lousy MS wheel I wouldn't want to set it up either.

I did not know that all your games are perfect .... I doubt any game is entirely "perfect" especially Forza 4 because there are a similar amount of comprises to be made.

In fact I will challenge you, name something in Forza 4 that does not have any compromises.

Never said every game I own is pefrect, did I? There are no similiar compromises in FM4.

Ill accept your challenge, although its really easy to accomplish. Real cockpits in all cars. Livery editor. Tuning menu/options. Online race options. Spectrum of cars, from old American Muscle, to newest Italian supercars, to Aussie V8Supercars.

NONE of those have a compromise.

Now, I'm probably the only one that thinks this, but I'll go ahead anyway.

GT3 in it's day was amazing. Class leading. Genre defining.
GT5 in it's day is...not. It's adequate. With all the positives and negatives that people have identified in the past 10 pages.

I think GT3 was a better game than GT5 is.

I think dropping the standards would have been the right call. I really do. They're a crutch, that allows PD to ignore issues with their flagship features. Without them, I think we would have a better game, because it's no longer possible to use the "overwhelming content" card to hide GT5s other flaws.

P.S. Heya Terronium!

This, this, this, a thousand times this. GT3 was an outstanding game that oozed quality all over the place. It might not have had the largest car list, but it didn't sacrifice anything for quality, in my opinion.

And I also agree with you on the removal of the standard cars. Not including them would have caused two big differences, I think:

First, PD would've had to change the premium car list, I reckon. I doubt that they would've had the guts to throw the premium car list GT5 launched with at us if it wasn't for the standard cars to fall back on. I feel that they would've thought twice about which cars would have been important to have, for a racing game. Shift 2 Unleashed's car list, plus another 75 cars to include stuff like the NA Miata and some of PD's typical Japanese favourites would've been very, very nice.

Second, the "1000 cars lol" argument wouldn't be overshadowing every debate. I feel that this mass of 'content' makes GT5 look like it has a lot more to offer than it actually has...

 You make this too easy for me.

Liver editor....most obvious thing that comes to my mind is that you still cannot have vinyls on the window.

Its easy to say real cockpits in all cars but when some of them look like this its obvious that its a compromise. Where are the windows btw?

compared to Gt5 which looks like this:

dont even get me started on the abomination that is Forza 3's cockpit :yuck:....just look at that F40's cockpit looks like a true toy car.

Heres another example:

2002-Pagani-Zonda-C12-S-7.3-Cockpit-View.jpg

You cannot even change the colour of the cockpit even when in real life the car will be a different coloured cockpit depending on the outer colour of the car.

Online race options.....does not display restrictions in lobby's, cannot not tune or modify inside a lobby which is a huge flaw, bad servers and no free run mode.

Cars...... Does Forza have any open wheelers like F1 etc.. NOPE...how about some official WRC, B-rally,...NOPE.... how about some official Nascar cars....NOPE.....how about some karts....obviously not...there are still plenty of cars and deserve to be in Forza 4 but are not sadly.

So what if Turn 10 didn't turn up the eye candy? I prefer an all around, consistent experience, and I feel Forza delivers better on that than GT5 did.

I like both games, but this is ridiculous. ...🤬

"GT5 looks great; has a :censored:ton of cars, of which a small portion are premium; it has the best driving physics;and it has dynamic weather and time of day..."
BUT does all of that equal replay value? Your mileage may vary. Aside from the seasonal events that come up, GT5 has very little replay value in my eyes.

Does Forza claim to have any of this stuff? No. There is no compromise here, they simply chose not to do it.

I'm not sure you understand the difference between a compromise and a feature simply being left out. Leaving out features that couldn't be done properly is the path FM4 has chosen. Implementing as many features as possible is the path GT5 has chosen. Even though said features may not be of the level expected of a AAA developer, and may overreach what the hardware is actually capable of. Which results in situations in which one feature is degraded by being combined with another. The obvious case being premium cars+weather=poor frame rates. In order to have an excellent play experience, there are certain combinations of things in GT5 that people would be advised to avoid. Hence, there are compromises.

@ maxrelaxing

seriously, give up man. hating on forzas cockpits when your games biggest flaw is....it has none, is really now, making you look like a right plonker, even more so now PD rolled over and made the siloette cockpits for the standard cars......oh dear.......

i'll say again:

GT5 is fundamentally flawed as a "real driving simulator. tm" because 80% of its roster of 1000 cars you can only drive floating behind it or strapped onto the bonnet...........

game over, grab your toys from round your pram...... and keep rolling back to the "GTPlanet binkered GT rules and is more real than even real life" thread your crawled from under.

cheers.

I'd take a step back and be quite if the game i was defending to the hilt had evidence of short cuts and lazy half ar5ed last gen graphics like readily available.:)

I just love how you're looking down on FM4's cockpits when 80% of GT5's cars have a generic, black cardboard cutout for a cockpit.

You said there were no compromises in the following parts.....I pointed them out and then you decide to complain about GT5. :scared:

You obviously do not have the dignity to just admit that those are compromises but change the subject and talk about GT5.

 You make this too easy for me.

Liver editor....most obvious thing that comes to my mind is that you still cannot have vinyls on the window.

I am talking about a livery editor, not where you can place them. Again, I have not come across a place that I am upset you cannot place a vinyl on a window.

Its easy to say real cockpits in all cars but when some of them look like this its obvious that its a compromise. Where are the windows btw?

FM3? I could have sworn this was FM4 vs GT5 thread...

You cannot even change the colour of the cockpit even when in real life the car will be a different coloured cockpit depending on the outer colour of the car.

And? Never said you were able to.

Online race options.....does not display restrictions in lobby's, cannot not tune or modify inside a lobby which is a huge flaw, bad servers and no free run mode.

Not sure what you mean here. You can see what the restictions are. From class class, to HP, to FWD only, to whatever. Also, the servers are fine. No free run mode? Personally, I dont like to "cruise" around a race track, and chat with random people, I go to race. Free roam isnt missed by me. And yes you can load any tuning setup (more than 3 even lol) to any car while in a lobby

Right, again they never said those cars will be in FM4. They didnt do a stupid move like putting Rally cars in without a proper rally track. Thats a compromise.

Response in red.

Exactally. I am not sure he knows what a compromise is.

How can you possibly slate the forza livery editor. it is by far one of the most OUTSTANDING elements of the whole game!!!!

LOOK!!! FFS!!! have some credibility left here and admit just how awesome what the community can achieve with it...

That requires being reasonable, and that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Frankly, the GT4esque carlist for GT5 turned me off from the PS3. I have GT1-4 and loved them, so it was rather disapointing when the list did come out and there were 50 some odd Skylines and 12 Ferrari's.

If you like GT5, more power to you, but this is a Forza forum, so your pretty much wasting your time and effort trying to convince us that GT5 is better.

Its not so much the banter as its a thread designed to discuss both games......

but to use the argument that the forza livery editor is somehow a bad area of the game!!!! lol...

Personally i'm glad theres a fanboi of GT5 in this thread to offer a balance, and so we can hand his ar5e to him everytime he tries to say GT5 is perfect.

Others have covered that pretty well, anyways. I wouldn't have said anything that wasn't said by Imari.

Plus, looking back at the kind of 'deabte' others and I have had with you, I reckon that a serious answer would be nothing more than a waste of letters, really.

I'll never understand why PD, as biased towards JDM cars as they are, decided to make the JZA80 a standard car...

LORD HAVE MERCY!! How can you delete images from your memory? I wish someone would knock me over the head so I can forget that last few seconds I just used looking at those.

I used to question the livery system in Forza in the beginning when they first introduced it. "Why make it so difficult to make liveries, why can't we just upload an image?" Afterwhile it became extremely obvious. When great liveries are produced you can admire them so much more YET there's enough simplicity for the not so greatly talented to make some hot liveries on their own.

There's a difference in "not belonging" in a game (because, if it was possible, I'd love to have all cars in the game), and priorities. And I absolutely can't fathom how a developer of a product for a very wide audience comes to the conclusion that they should be giving a higher priority to a Prius than to a Veyron. I simply can't.
So you agree with me, but you just can't see that for some reason.

Don't worry, you're not even close to the first person to have no idea what I'm actually talking about. It's me, not you.

Uh, I guess you're right, I've got no idea what you're on about, anymore.

Is it just the choice of words people use when discussion these things?

In the defence of GT - those awful 458 damage images are from the demo. They toned it down in the final game.

Since this thread is walking a thin line (much as the similar one did at GTP), I feel it's time to re-state some bullet points for it to follow in the future, just like that one:

  • Opinion is not fact - don't present it as such
  • Argue the point don't attack the person making it
  • The term 'fanboy' (including any and all derivations) is banned
  • Accusations of 'Troll' simply because you don't like what someone says are also out
  • If you make a claim back it up with sources - fail to do so and you will be asked to provide them
  • Don't just post up pictures and video without any form of meaningful comment. This is a discussion thread not a picture/video gallery. Offending posts will be deleted on sight.

In addition, obviously, the AUP must be followed - don't resort to personal insults if you don't agree with someone. Go forth!

While this is an FM4 vs. GT5 thread, it isn't a witch hunt and people are allowed to have differing opinions, so long as their opinions (and any further discussion) are within the confines of the AUP.

You will not "hand them their arse", troll or otherwise. This is a forum of discussion. Not a forum hellbent on scrutinizing those who may not see things the same as you.

That is so awesome. I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy liveries. No disrespect to the skill they take to create and quality of them. But I have a huge fondness for this one.

The only downmark I can give, is that it would have been better placed on an BMW M3, Marco's daily driver.
