When I play GT5 with a pad I can feel what I think are the stresses applied to the car body via rumble but nothing about the grip or lack thereof when turning a corner. It makes me feel disconnected from the road and is the main reason I prefer its competitor.

I realise this is probably a matter of preference but Forza rumble is much more communicative to me where the rubber meets the road and this has only improved with the new controller's rumbly triggers. The downside is that it's difficult to feel inclines and bumps in the road but for me it's a tradeoff I'll gladly accept.

^^ I don't understand what you're getting at....

Do you mean the controller vibration's gone in favor of trigger rumble? That doesn't makes sense. I'm sure it's not true though.

It feels like they have three rumbles now. Main rumble = engine, LT rumble = brake contact, RT rumble = acceleration/grip.

As far as I can tell GT uses rumble to tell you when you go over a bump in the road among other things. Forza can't do that because the background rumble masks it.

Hmm... pity. They could have worked around that, but time constraints I suppose.

On the subject, how are you finding the engine sounds? I've come across folks on various forums saying they're a bit muted compared to FM4.

Try to change the point of view. Its muted because that's how it sound from the interior of the car. If you pick the hood view, you will get a different sound

Yeah, this is much improved over FM4. I am amazed at the sound in FM5, and in all the views.

Yeah, I know. I wasn't referring to the interior view in particular. Just generally. As there were initially complaints about FM4 too.. that they were too loud, distorted/amplified.. which is of course far from fact; they're detailed and takes a bit of sound system tweaking to get the most of it.

Anyhow, glad they've bettered the engine exhaust & sounds even more. What about upgraded engine/exhaust sounds? I don't suppose they've introduced road noise as yet. Reverb/doppler effect improved?

Hi,
I have not tried FM5 after being so disappointed with FM4. Major problem for me was the road feel and FFB.(and steering assists) So my question for you is how is FFB changed? The reason I think it might be changed is that wheels are new as old Xbox 360 wheels don't work(fanatec etc.).

Yess Gt simulates the undulations(differences in height of a track) very well. But sucks at the rest of the Haptic feedback. Forza has always been better at it that GT one.

Very hard to believe somebody being dissapointed by FM4. But hey, Too each his own.

I know Inside Sim Racing called it the best force feed back they've ever felt on a console racing game.

Fatality!

I don't really get the braking complaint though, I think it's harder to brake in 5 than in 4.

Also I'd really like to see the real numbers on how fast a F1 car really stops to compare it to Forza 5. I don't consider the F1 series to be a proper benchmark for how the real thing performs.

In all reality it's a perfect car to break their physics engine and hopefully it helps make it more versatile going into the future.

I really hope the F1 car ends up in Horizon 2.

This is the only GT6 vs Forza 5 thread I could find. So here goes.

I have always been a multi console gamer and my love for sim racing started with GT. Then Forza 1 was introduced and I started to fall in love with that series. It had vinyls, auction house, engine swaps, drivetrain swaps and everything that was missing from the GT series.

Thought GT5 might pull me back to GT but rented and HATED GT5 at launch. The standards truly killed that game. Couldn't be brought to photo travel and the used car dealership was a nightmare. Standards could not be purchased from a dealership. Nighmare. So I refused to support GT5 at all and did not purchase GT5. It was the ONLY GT game I never purchased. Later I received it as a Christmas gift and played it once in a while. Mainly b spec because of the standards. After a couple years of updates GT5 was a little better but the standards still ruined the game because they were truly restriced in many ways.

Forza 4 remained my favorite console racing sim ever. Still does to this day. So I was excited about F5 on X1. Thought maybe if F5 was good enough I would get the X1. Got quite nervous when I heard all cars would be in autovista. I knew instantly this meant cars were going to be deleted. Sure enough it happened and even worse...

F5 was introduced and as we know, only around 200 cars and very few tracks. F4 had almost 700 cars. Several other features were removed. The lack of cars and tracks imo is a massive disappointment. Along with no night or weather. No rally and the list goes on including no storefront/auction house. Just could not justify the X1 or F5.

GT6 came out shortly after F5. I rented this for 2 weeks and my largest concern about standards was fixed!!! We could buy all standards from the dealership!!! We could take all standards to photo travel! Most standards have graphical improvements and are so much more user friendly in GT6. User interface massively improved over GT5 and so many more improvements. My love for the GT series returned!!

So with that said my GT6 rental has run out and my decision has come to the point of buying GT6 tonight after work. Not buying F5. I still love and play Forza 4 and it remains my top favorite simulation racer. GT6 looks to be right there with it in close 2nd.

Gameplay wise Forza 5 is miles ahead of Forza 4.

Camaro Boy, I hear ya man!

Although I don't own GT6 or FM5, the last Forza on the X360 is something I play the most in my collection, even to this day and has recaptured my love for motoring and cars like no other game/sim on a console.

UKHardcore, he wasn't comparing FM5 to 4, but rather how FM4 remains his favorite and how GT drew him back in with part 6.

Just about everybody agrees about FM5 being vastly better in terms of driving, visuals and audio. But that's about it mate, there ain't much beyond that. Relatively, there's a LOT you can do in FM4.

Exactly.

Now here is what I think about the two. I have grown up with both GT a Forza, and love them equally. Personally, I think Forza 5 destroys GT6 in the graphics department. However, I think GT6 is just an all around better game. I think the handling model and physics of Forza 5 is horrible, as just about anything can be drifted with ease, like a formula 1 car. However, in GT6, the cars handle like they should. A big heavy truck feels like a big heavy truck, and a formula 1 car grips like crazy. A big muscle car will slide, and a Japanese Sports car feels light. Also, GT 6 has more cars. I think Forza 4 was better than Forza 5. Forza 5 has stuck to the iconic sports cars. GT6 has a lot of cars that Forza 5 does not. I dont want to start a flame war. This is what I think of them. Both are great games, and both have their advantages and disadvantages.

It seems to me the majority of people who prefer GT6 over FM5 only own GT6. At most they played FM5 at a "mates house" or took a lap or two on a demo. I own both games and have put in quite a bit of time in both, but overall I prefer FM5.

Also, feature-wise, what did FM4 have that 5 doesn't?

Yup, I could never go back to Forza 4 after playing 5. It's just that much better. The newly added features, the substantially improved physics, graphics, and still retains a stellar line up of cars to choose from. Track count is low, but we will see that expand with DLC as well as Forza 6.

True that! Most People don't even really played it or played it at a friends house and state they didnt like the "arcady" physics?! And what have you... But usually when People really own both games and played them also really alot its another Thing. I don't understand the brand loyality at all. I mean sure there will be People who prefer GT over FM or FM over GT. But the majority just sticks to one side.

Like People do with Soccer/Football. You hate the other Team, you say they suck and are all idiots and bad. But the reality is you don't even know those People, they Play Football as your Team and have also fans as your Team. Simply because they arent from yours and the rival they do suck!
Thats also nicely to see in the gaming Industrie, wether its GT vs FM or BF vs CoD etc...

I have also never understood that. I am always willing to try something else out. Always been a multi console gamer and multi genre gamer. Same with cars, same with most everything in life. I have to admit, I was VERY close to giving up on the GT series after GT5.

I have to interject regards Forza's cars all feeling similar, because it's just absolute unsubstantiated rubbish. Take just three FWD cars in Forza 5 - the original Cooper, the Fiesta ST and the Alfa Guilietta for example - and try to exploit their handling. The Mini is a live wire, the Fiesta chuckable and the Guilietta is more planted and hesitant to lift-off. That's just the FWD cars, the differences between the 4WD Audi RS7 and the 4WD E63 S AMG are marked too, with surprisingly the Audi being the more fun to push hard.

The biggest problem I have with forza 5 is that literally anything with rwd can be drifted with no problems

It's time to turn off the assists bro.

It's hard and kinda unfair to compare content vs content on a game at the end of one of the longest console generations ever and a game that just launched on a new console.

Yeah Fastcarguy, keep dem' assists off and adjust your deadzones. It'll take some getting used to with the new XBONE controller. *shorter range of motion*

As a general rule, always keep your inside deadzones at zero, outside at max.

Time to adjust the deadzones then. The new controller is going to take getting used to, not sure if you've been using a wheel or not, but I've had all my Forza doses on a controller, and the finesse and intricate corrections you really gotta work on, in this case more so given the new design, with reduced range of motion for some reason. <--- Maybe they want to encourage more sales of controller peripherals.

Launch titles are just a taste of things to come. Wait a year, see what kind of DLC and updates they release.

I think FM6 is going to be the one to really end the show!
