Barring something going catastrophically wrong, the developers have said the console versions will be identical except for graphics.

I depends how important having the very best graphics are to you. pCARS on X1 is almost certainly going to look better than it does on my computer, so I'm not really that fussed either way.

Hmm yeah, neither am I. Although the possibility of *slightly* better graphics does seem tempting. Is PCARS going to be locked in at 30 fps on both new-gen consoles? If so, that's a major stinker! :banghead:

What still irks me is this - according to what I've read up so far on both consoles, the X1 is a media and entertainment hub, so 80% of the features I'm paying for, I simply do not need... ever.

And the PS4 on the other hand, was primarily built for gaming yada yada yakity yak yak! I'll be on the lookout for games.. the console with the better games will be mine, hopefully.

I believe it's totally irrelevant to the topic and tiring to read all the time Speedster991's plan on what console to buy (and other fellow members pointing him some facts which he totally will ignore) :)

Had I ignored them, I would not be responding at all. I value everybody's FB in this regard. But I need to be careful about this, as I can't get both. And whichever one I get, I'll be stuck with that one for the next decade prolly.

Yeap, gotta play the waiting game now.
I considered this but personally figured I was better off playing the driving game. It's a lot more fun.

It's been eight months since DriveClub was supposed to come out. Since then there hasn't been much in the way of driving exclusives on the superior console.

They're shooting for 60fps on PS4/XBone, 30fps on Wii U.

I've long felt the same way, but like it or not, the days of game consoles just for playing games are over. The PS4 has its share of entertainment and social media riggings, and even though Nintendo is still playing catch-up with online connectivity and their consoles have always strictly been "games consoles for games," the Wii U represents a significant change of course. It comes bundled with Netflix/Hulu/YouTube apps, the internet browser is robust and innovative (with the GamePad), the OS is built around a proprietary social media system, and it does other things like sync the GamePad to the basic remote functions on your TV. Since we've opted against a TV subscription in our house, I use the Wii U for internet video and I can't complain.

On the other hand, I do feel like the current (awkward) UI on Xbox 360 is overloaded with fluff. Like you, I don't need 80% of it.

Have you had a stab at either console versions? How do we know ATM the differences will be minor? It remains to be seen if Sony will actually be able to make any realistic gains this generation, due to having noticeably more powerful hardware again.

Every single multi-platform for both system has been minor differences. Also the PS4 is not noticeably more powerful, in fact it has struggled with a few things like texture filtering in comparison to Xbox One. Beyond this the Xbox One has a more powerful CPU and a twice as capable audio chip (200-channels vs 512 audio channels) which are both incredibly important for racing games running lots of audio and a high framerate physics engine.

Well, by the time Drive Club comes out, H2 and FM5 would have come down in price significantly. Plus it would be interesting to see the future of GT on the PS4, however, I doubt that's going to surface until 2016. Like I said, I'd grab both consoles if I could.

Uh what? Dude Driveclub comes out not long after Horizon 2.

I didn't mean disc region code, I meant faulty consoles landing in the ME, or say SE Asia. That's what I got from one of the X1 dealers: he said they're not being sold and recalled due to games freezing up. He also added (which I though was wierd), the PS4 has far more features than X1.

You're kidding right?

There has never been evidence of this ever happening and the Xbox One is completely region free meaning you can buy one in the US and take it to China and play a game bought in Australia while hooked up to the Mexican online xbox store.

Isn't it the X1 that doubles as a living room entertainment hub?

Either way, I want a console exclusively for gaming. All these fancy nancy features are white noise to me.

Um, they both double as a living room entertainment hub.... Sony at both last E3s have spoken extensively about TV shows and movies while Microsoft only spoke about gaming at the last two E3s.

Right now the Xbox One has a way better gaming library when it comes to exclusives and it seems that this will only continue into the future. It also has better gaming features like rumble triggers that are extremely helpful in racing games and helps improve the immersion of the game. A controller that will last 8x longer(DS4 avg. 5 hours, XOneC avg. 40+) while wireless so you don't have to worry about stopping what you're doing just to let a controller charge. Suspend and resume so you can pause a game, turn off your console and turn it back on later and continue from the same exact spot.

Speedster you don't sound like you're contemplating anything, you sound like you've already made your decision based on the clearly wrong words of others. You say you have a soft-spot for Forza and you want a console for gaming yet when we tell you that the Xbox One has a better gaming catalogue and will have two Forzas soon including Project Cars you blow it off and just talk about how Driveclub might be alright...

The PS4 is barely stronger than the Xbox One and recently most of the gaps between the two consoles are tightening with a lot of games being 1080p on both with very similar features and framerate. Most graphical differences are hardly noticeable unless up-close and side by side.

You've raised some compelling points.

I haven't made my decision yet, don't put words in my mouth!

Since PCARS is coming in at 60 fps, I now have real motivation to get the X1. Another motivator: the X1 version should be as good as the PS4 one, or better.

The very thought of no more Forza on new gen, is very hard to digest, to say the least.

And I am NOT referring to region specific games or discs.. jeez! I meant maybe *faulty* units or games getting distributed in SE Asia and ME.

Anyway people around here are not buying X1s, says the dealer. Well...balls!

My main motivation is still driving sims. I don't care much for exclusives. Although the Xbox has generally had better exclusives, IMO.

Way OT, but the Xbox One OS is far less cluttered than the last 360 OS. You get three tiles of adverts and the rest is your own personal pins and the last five running apps.

Go and read the pCARS threads. I'm not filling up this thread any more educating you about basic facts on pCARS.

The Xbox One is region free aka there are no special units per region. You're getting the same units in SE Asia as I'm getting in America bar the packaging, manuals and power supply differences due to voltage and wall socket configurations. The console itself will work in any country the only difference is the initial setup you choose for language and Xbox store region.

The dealer in question is full of crap or has a agenda if this is what he told you, also if this were true the online gaming community would be all over it and making fun of the Xbox One for sending out faulty units.

So I've done some rough approximations and depending on how deep into Northern Italy the game goes, it's well within reason that we could see the Lombardy region, which in turn presents the possibility of seeing Monza.

Whether the track is included in addition to the city is another matter altogether.

I really hope they put in the time and effort to design some truly beautiful scenery. I know that's not what the game is about, but in TDU2 for example I could spend hours just cruising around the map, taking in the beautiful views, without caring in the slightest about the wonky physics, awful Career mode, etc.

It really adds a whole new dimension to the game.

Playground Games didn’t really discuss the racer’s Kinect features at E3 2014 last month, but we now know that it’ll include a Kinect-enabled personal assistant called ANNA.
She is your digital personal assistant and navigation in the game. She is also very intelligent and will suggest things to do in the game and give you a recap when you return to the games. She will also alert you when friends are online.

Looking at the scenery in the videos, it's satisfied one of my photomode desires - shooting amongst the trees in the woods. If they can have a nice bridge crossing a small river so we can get low and capture the water and the car in the top two thirds of the shot, I'll be really pleased.

Now I taking this with a large grain of salt but if any of this is true, I am now doubly glad that the 360 will be different.

That was a lot of painful rambling, and I don't really get the point other than that FH2 will have Kinect features.

Will she nag you every 10 minutes to go to the Autoshow and spend your cash, if you have more than a certain amount? And repeatedly suggest that you go check out those barn finds you completed about seven months ago? :P

Kinect's not my main problem with this. However, we don't know whether you CAN play without Kinect.

Xbox One has been out for almost a year now and we still get questions like this?

Since launch day it has a been a option, actually before launch and change in policies they said you'd be able to turn off Kinect in the settings(which you can), to use Kinect. It might've come with every console but it has always been optional when it comes to using it. The only games that will require the device are games that are built only to use the Kinect like Dance Central, Fantasia and Kinect Sports Rivals. Any other title that uses it will only use it to add options and maybe some features to the game itself. Usually the Kinect will just make it easier and less intrusive to do certain things, like saying "next race" in Forza Horizon instead of going to the map and marking it, but this is nothing new to the gaming world.

Microsoft has started selling the XB1 without Kinect. Don't expect any problem.

This doesn't even matter, you've been able to disconnect your Kinect since day one and turn it off since announcement; the kinect might've been bundled but its use was never forced.

Everything seemed a tad seen that in NFS rivals done that, then they switched to the car meets I was like

If I could sell my digital games on Xbox I would sell Rivals right now, man that game sucked hard.

I went for the X1 when making the choice of which next-gen console to get simply because I believe Forza is better than GT, imo

Indeed, I never plugged the Kinect in at all, right from the off
