I'm pretty sure you dont need to be online at all to play the game, or even have an online connection, other then for the day one update for the One.
What about the drivatars? don't they need to be updated regularly? To make them more competitive and less combative? That's what my qualm with them is.

What happens if you don't have any friends who have any of the Forza games on the Xbox? Drivatars would be disabled, and one would assume the AI would just be normal like previous Forza games, right?

They should be updated, but they do not need to be. From an article I read, there are already some on disc, but you do not need to be connected to the internet whatsoever. From what I gather, It is just suggestion, not a requirement.

EDIT: After thinking about it though, while it does not require online for playing, the drivitar system is still being implemented nonetheless.

They just pull Drivatars out of the cloud at random based on your lap times is my guess.

Would title updates cause the game to download a batch of drivatars? I thought Greenawalt said something along those lines regarding FM5's launch update. To skip the drivatars I guess you'd have to skip everything, including DLC and bug fixes.

Even when I lived with satellite internet that fell squarely into the "we have a product for you, it's called Xbox 360" category, I still downloaded updates/DLC and played FM4/Horizon's Rivals mode after midnight, when the daily 250MB cap was suspended. Voluntarily skipping that minimum of connectivity just to avoid offline racing that resembles online racing isn't really worth it.

Drivatars are promising in theory, but their pseudo-deliberate rough driving is unfortunate.

Not necessarily. They are definitely more challanging, the first half of the grid, the bottom half of the grid is a nightmare. Most of the tracks are tight in the first few turns so until you get out of that, it can be bad, especially with 16 racers on a track. Once your passed mid pack it opens up.

Stupid mistakes do happen, and its easy to take the right-of-way if you know how to manipulate the AI. It seems that if you're way faster then them, they tend to go your pace, usually resulting in them flying off track.

Never gets old! :lol::lol::lol:

Happens in FM4 at times. :D

They ought to hire pro drivers with varying skills, and get the AI to mimic their driving styles. Ain't impossible, is it?

The idea behind Drivatar already does that; your Drivatar is synced based on how you drive, hence why everyone drove like rampaging children when FM5 was released. Hiring pro drivers for the AI to mimic wouldn't be any different.

When I get Forza Horizon 2 and play offline, I wonder if it's possible to sync your driving style for all AIs. How cool will that be? :D

It'd be cool, but I doubt it will do anything like that. The big purpose behind it is to mix up the AI gameplay & let you race other "people".

You're absolutely right @McLaren. :)👍 I really the idea of drivatars, and hope to get a chance to also try them out as well. I'm so looking forward to Forza Horizon 2 and testing it! :D

Confirmed no microtransaction in Horizon 2, if anyone was interested

Though I do like the idea of the lottery-style way of getting prize cars every time you level up.

Considering the reasons they gave for not introducing them I don't see how they could get away with bringing them back in a later update.

I hope not. Making money was never an issue in the first game, especially after earning free upgrades.
Swimming in an ocean of cash won't be so bad as long as they don't repeat the mistake of the first game, with a whiny nagging voice telling you to spend money every ten minutes.

I intentionally burned away money just to avoid that ($250,000 was the threshold if I remember correctly)...then later, after they muted her in a title update, they introduced the 1000 Club with challenges for multi-million-dollar cars I could no longer afford. :ouch: Maybe I'll spend the time waiting for this game by running street races and finishing 1000 Club.

Really?

I don't think gaming on previous-gen consoles makes you anti-HD!

And I say if you have a perfectly good, usable set up, why upgrade? Times are tough!

I didnt say that. He doesnt use an HDMI compatible TV IIRC, and the way it has been going for him, he doesnt deem it necessary to upgrade(or be forced to upgrade) at the moment.

My CRT is still working fine. :P To clarify, I'm anti-display-latency; in the future I might be forced to keep the older consoles on a separate setup. To underline the point, Nintendo brags about how the Wii U GamePad's video feed outperforms an HDTV...but it lags slightly behind my TV.

I'm not against legible text or map icons larger than an unpopped popcorn kernel!

For those who buy the XB360 version of the game, I have some bad news for you.
Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox 360 will be a "different game" to the Xbox One version and not a straight port, Playground Games has explained.

While the open-world sequel on previous generation hardware will have a different engine, developer and set of features, it is still "inspired by the same ideas" as the Xbox One version.

"It's based in the same world, it's based on the same themes," creative director Ralph Fulton told Digital Spy at E3 2014.

"Rather than thinking of them as the same game on different platforms, they are different games inspired by the same ideas."

Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One will use the same technology as Forza Motorsport 5, while the Xbox 360 edition - developed by Sumo Digital - will run on the same engine as the original Forza Horizon.

While Microsoft will talk more specifically about the Xbox 360 edition later this year, Fulton confirmed the weather system and Drivatars are only possible on Xbox One.

:(

Eh, sour grapes. At least I won't have to put up with driveatars and I could imagine a sudden downpour of rain would ruin a race for me.
I actually glad it'll use the Horizon1 engine. It was so fun to drive in that game. Not with the general lack of grip that FM5 has.
Glass halfway full, I say. ;)
