FH4 suddenly doesn't work for me after being prompted to update the system software on my Xbox One. After updating the game simply freezes on the loading screen and then crashes to desktop. Happened three times before I gave up. As always I followed the system update procedure as instructed.

Edit: Hard reset fixed it...

Looks like we are definitely getting changes to the game's online multiplayer in the January update.

They've actually closed the 59-page thread on the official forums to new replies, with RetroKrystal saying for people to hold back on more feedback until the update is live, at which point they will start a new thread for people to modify their feedback along with whatever they think of the changes. She specifically mentions January as the window for these changes.

For those that need a refresher, here's the big list of things wrong with Multiplayer ;)

[ :) ] Lack of non-Team Adventures

[ :) ] Track design encourages and rewards "wallriding".

[_] Players aggressively crash into each other in order to overtake/defend.

[_] Teammates deliberately crashing into one another.

[_] No Team Adventure modes on Fortune Island.

[_] Players on a team get "punished" when one of their teammates quits mid-race.

[_] Private Adventures limited to Teams only.

[_] Freeroam Rush "forcing" players to choose cars suited to Cross-Country in Road Racing and Street Racing Adventures

[_] Long waiting times when matchmaking in Ranked Team Adventure.

[_] Convoys getting split up after connecting to a Team Adventure, some getting left behind etc.

[_] Unclear player rating system in Ranked Team Adventure, players losing points for "winning".

[_] PI system restricts competitively-viable cars to a few narrow build types.

[_] Lack of Class-Based Rivals for every Route.

[_] A number of Routes classified as "Dirt Racing" consist mainly of tarmac roads.

[_] Lack of "Ghost only" Online Adventures.

[_] Lack of an ability to choose a preferred Class when queuing up for Team Adventure.

[_] Lack of an ability to vote on the theme/Class of a new Adventure after completing the current one.

[_] No Team Adventures for D, C and B-Class cars.

[_] No way to save Replays of races.

[_] No way to "Vote to Kick" troublesome players.

[_] Hard to spot when another Horizon Life user has queued up a PVP or Co-Op event.

[ :D ] Hard to get people to join a Horizon Life PVP or Co-Op event within 45 seconds.

[ :) ] = Solution confirmed to be in development.

[ :D ] = Resolved/Fixed.

[_] Players on a team get "punished" when one of their teammates quits mid-race.

I'm not sure how you would "fix" this one, assuming you're referring to the other team getting automatic points for "passing" those players as though they were still in the race. Your opponents could equally feel punished if they passed a bunch of your team, only to have those players drop out mid-race, and suddenly no longer count towards their point total.

The current mechanic, while not exactly satisfying, I think is probably the most "fair" - they get credit for passing the dropped players in that race, but not subsequent ones in the team adventure.

There should, however, be more of a penalty for choosing to drop out in ranked adventure, to discourage it.

The issue is the other way around, you're punished when a member of the opposing team drops out as you no longer have 6 cars to score points against. The maximum points from winning the round drops from 650 to 550 and your whole team, assuming they beat all of the opposing team will score 600 less points. Obviously not an issue when you beat the entire team but when rounds are close scoring the same points as someone who finished 1 place behind you is unacceptable.

That I'd agree with.

Me too. I don't even bother searching the AH for them any more, because if one shows up (and it's only ever one), it's usually been bought out before I can even load up the auction.
Oh, they were valuable? I've been deleting my dupes from the garage. I don't bother auctioning any more when I'm "spring cleaning". It's too annoyingly long.

Perhaps it was added because of the Fortune Island riddles, so that people don't need to spend CR on a car they'll only use for a single challenge.

While we are all experienced enough to blow through the expansion in a few hours the wider playerbase may not have reached that Treasure Hunt quest yet.

In that case, one could argue that it would have made more sense to put the Volvo in the shop last week, especially since Fortune Island released a few hours after the shop refreshed.

Activity in the game at the time was no doubt very high because of the expansion. That would have given a lot more people a chance to just snag the truck if they didn’t have it already for a few FP well ahead of the riddle, regardless if they complete Fortune Island in a day or a few weeks.

I wonder if they did it this way in order for the Volvo to run through Christmas day, allowing all the potential new buyers some easy access.

Fortunately got my system / game working again. If your console ever stops working after an update, shut it down for a few minutes and try again. 💡

Back on topic, the Iron Knight is perhaps the worst possible freebie they could add to the Forzathon Shop. Like many others, I purchased one of these expensive trucks in order to make progress in the treasure hunt. Otherwise I wouldn't have, and now it's free... That's 80% of one treasure lost for nothing.

The developers are basically punishing all players who bothered to play through the expansion during its first week on the market. Other studios usually reward players for jumping onboard as early as possible. This comes just a week after streaming a build with cars unavailable to the public. Are they trying to be serious?

Yeah it is sure a kick in the nads for those that jumped on it right away, but I can somewhat understand why they did it, in my opinion. Maybe a heads-up would have made this a bit easier to take for some.

As for cars being showcased that aren't available to the public - isn't that what happens with every game release, expansion release, DLC release(free and paid), Forzathon and/or Event update that is layed out on the road map? Sure, we dont' know when/if they're planned, but everything seems to point towards their inclusion at some point(hopefully.)

Maybe it is standard practice in the industry, but I'd still argue they shouldn't have demonstrated a WRX vs. Evo race unless they had a very good reason to tease Mitsubishi right before the holiday break.

Considering the teasing continued even after that fact, I would imagine something is coming. Well, hoping is probably the term I should use. We should just have some patience and not flip the desks just yet.

There's a separate thread about this, that suggests there may very well be a good reason they were "teasing" Mitsubishi in that stream.

I can't imagine their dev build of the game would still have cars in it that aren't either part of the current game, or being included in the near-mid term future. That kind of thing made more sense pre-release.

The following tweet by Knoles did seem like a strong hint, and I guess it still is to some extent. I expected a development soon thereafter.

Yeah, I'm aware of the speculation that has been going on around here in recent days.

In my opinion, I don't think we'll see something until the next major update in January, if anything. That seems like the most logical point in time.

To me the most logical point in time would be shorty after teasing it twice within hours. Now I'm no longer sure what to make of it.

It's worth keeping in mind how the phrase Mitsubishi not included "at this time" was used back when the marque's disappearance was officially confirmed. It could mean nothing but it does hold some optimism compared to the older announcement that Toyota wouldn't be part pf FM7, or something worded very closely.

I make a habit of not only shutting down my XBox at night, but unplugging it as well, so when I start each day, it's as clean a start as I can make it.

Although this game is pleasant, my expectations for future updates and content are gradually diminishing.

They definitely make improvements. I will admit it and praise it.
But similarly I had disappointment with them.
For example car pass will not change. We will be given a more convertible supercars in the future.
And many many prize car and Forzathon shop will not change either. I do not expect changes like FM7.

Maybe I should start unplugging mine too. I always assumed things would work fine as long as it gets to restart completely after installations.
