Yeah, I'm forced to agree with breyzipp here. Rivals totally overshadowed Donut Media for me last night. These guys aren't funny, the story was ridiculously easy, and they messed up a concept that could have been cool. Instead of actually teaching you how to upgrade and tune a car for rallying, you are essentially forced to add the parts they want you to add to continue. Not a single second is spent in the tune menu, it's just part swapping.

And just when I thought the race against the Civic Coupe would be interesting... zzzzzzzz. They pretend it's a rally race complete with co-pilot calls but you can just cut through the jungle just fine.

Are we seriously gonna have a whole month of this? After the highs of Horizon Anniversary? Mannnn... Even FH4 Top Gear was better.
it will have part 2 soon with high car low car

I think the biggest issue is that they've attempted to bring the idea of a 'build' series to the story... but that doesn't work when what would be weeks, months or even years worth of time and effort in the real world is done in as little as 10 seconds through the magic of video game menus. The end result is something that comes across as confusingly short and misguided, for players and Donut Media fans too. The fact Donut are very Marmite doesn't help, given the game's already fairly flaccid writing.

I think the intention was that you spend a bit more time in the menus to personally pick out other parts to make the car your own, but since the game badgers you into just picking what they want and moving on, very few people will ever bother to do that. This is the same game where almost 30% of the recorded player base never made it past the 8 minute opening drive; do they think people will really take the time on this?

A good idea for an automotive YouTuber collab would be Mighty Car Mods. Whilst they're probably not everyone's cup of tea, I imagine they'd be far, far less divisive. Not only that, they do challenges with their cars that would translate pretty well into a Horizon Story, plus their stable of cars are a damn sight more interesting to add to the game. VTEC Mini? Super Gramps? The Mira? March Super Turbo? They'd be amazing additions.

I would much rather see an in-game story with Dan Greenwald about why Alfa Romeo is not in the franchise anymore than these 2 YouTube clowns
I can understand criticism and frustration at the lack of new personally desirable content, and also feel like it needs to be put out there on forums.

But THIS specifically is what I don't like. Name calling. I have seen this soo much everywhere and can easily see why devs either shut out from community discussions or be very aggressive on social media. This is completely unnecessary and unwarranted.

I, personally, am not a huge fan of Donut, but I'm not gonna call names like this. This just will make devs and potential collaborators in the future more unwilling to do so.

It's happening to the point where certain forums (especially reddit) are unbearable. It is a very easy choice to say "I don't like this content", or, "I don't think this content is good enough compared to past content" rather than saying "The devs are stupid and lazy" and "donut media are clowns".

Besides all that, this is the most natural I have seen dialogue in a horizon story. Would have never imagined words like "smuggle" being used in a rated E Horizon game that censors "high", of all words in songs, of all places, lol.

I recently had a quick spin on Horizon 3, and it just only occurred to me that they censored the word 'loving' in Tied to You by The Knocks in Horizon 5. Even weirder is Horizon 3 has the same age rating - why?!

The Donut Media Story is by far and away the worst Horizon Story in the history of the series, I have no idea what it was for or who it was aimed at, it felt like a marketing tool for Donut, I didn't three stars on all chapters, nor do I really care too.

The rest of this week's playlist just feels like more of the same.

There are some ideas they could steal from other games or forums like this around the internet. For example, GTA did a thing a month ago or whatever, where you chose a side between two in-game cola companies and the winning one gave themed prizes for the community. They could do something like that with manufacturers or rival models.
They had the Horizon World Cup in Series 4 - although the prize they gave out at the end was a Autoshow car of the winning nationality, and not something that would've been perhaps more interesting, like new articles of clothing (or car horns? come on, missed opportunity to add La Marseillase as a car horn!).

I think that may be a question best asked to the ESRB, which is more than happy to slap a "Strong Lyrics" label on pretty much everything (I think PEGI is far more lenient in this regard). How many other E-rated games have a licensed sountrack?

I think the story meant to be a tutorial on how to upgrade your car for a beginner. Since text based tutorial is not very interactive. But it ended up too shallow in my opinion. People could just slap someone else tune and called it a day. Should have also explained in depth car tuning.

Just gonna leave this picture here....😂😂😂

Please retroactively give every FWD car in the game the Lynk TCR suspension physics, thank you.
Well in reality those world touring cars (WTCC then WTCR) have always had FWD suspension magic - they have insane levels of grip for the amount of power on offer which should rightly completely overload the front tyres.

The experience of driving rivals in the Lynk WTCR car was very unique - so much grip, so much about pure momentum and racing line accuracy. Reminded me of Race07 WTCC driving sim: Good memories :D

I’m having trouble with the third Donut Media challenge, HRSPRS. The car isn’t registering a time through the speed zone. I keep going through it, first one way then the other, but nothing. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or it’s a bug.

Apparently FH5's issue with censorship is that they censor anything (and I mean anything) that's even remotely adult oriented. I've outlined many songs that have gone too far with music censorship and some examples are, but not limited to:

-Smile by Wolf Alice
-Stardust by Shwayze
-Roses (Imanbek Remix) by SAINt JHN
-Dreamcatcher Night Mix by Robotaki
-Get To Know You by Dexter King

The worst censorship came with Teardrops by British rock band Bring Me The Horizon. Over 50% of this song is completely butchered beyond belief and it's all because there were some very, well, how do I put it - violent themes. They won't delete it because they're from Britain.

It wasn't like this with FH2 and FH3. Only profanity words were censored back then. They did this since FH4 months after release (and they deleted one song in the process - and of course it was a Horizon XS song).

You might as well listen to Eterna or Hospital Records (which I do listen sometimes).

Keep going bud. The first cameras you go though aren't the start of the speed zone you need do.

Oh, I'm aware. I was going through the correct speed zone. I checked and it's a common problem with many players. If you restart the game, it usually resets the challenge and works. That's what I did and I got three stars first try (well, actually something like sixth try, but real first try when it actually recorded my speed).

There is a reason Donut Media's Horizon Story is so easy.
That's because Horizon Story requires players to use their own upgraded cars, not upgraded preset cars.

Many players will probably finish Chapter 1 with only rally suspension, rally tires, and AWD upgrades.

But in fact, because other upgrades are freely available here, a wrong upgrade will result in a car that is worse than this tutorial upgrade.

For example, V8 Diesel is available for Mustang and Trans Am.
However, Horizon Story can only perform upgrades, not settings.

Therefore, even with a 10-speed gearbox, the top speed is very low and the car cannot even reach 180 km/h.
What if a beginner who does not know the characteristics of this engine were to install a diesel engine with a AWD stock 6-speed gearbox?
It would probably be a big problem.

I believe that the too-easy 3-star target was deliberately set to avoid these problems.

Yeah I remember that, but it felt like kind of a non-event. Wasn't it only counting Trial uses or something too? If it had been their toe-in-the-water attempt at doing something more involving and they had expanded it more then it would have been fine, but instead it was a one-time thing they didn't do great then abandoned.

There's also the Christmas thing with the community target, but I remember that was wonky with how it was tracked or something. More creative and less grindy community targets could be interesting, but to be fair most of the time they just turn into grinds in almost all the games I've done them in.

I suppose the broad playerbase is part of the problem here too though, it's hard to execute some of these things well when a chunk of the community won't want to participate. Using the previous Evo vs WRX example, if they were to do that then some muscle cars guys might complain, hypercar kiddies won't care, doing the events against the AI will put off a lot of people because the AI are annoying/boring, doing them competitive multiplayer will put off a lot of people through toxic aggression, doing them cooperatively multiplayer just gets rammy teammates, making the challenges hard puts people off, making them to easy bores people and puts them off, etc.

Oh, this reminded me that the car that my friend and I gifted to each other has not yet been delivered to either of us, and there is no FP reimbursement.

Hopefully these things will not happen again if they are planning to do the same this year.

Now I remember why I don't bother with this game anymore. It lacks substance and the writing is cringe.

Was playing with a friend just now and during the course of usual antics, I noticed I had a second copy of a Wuling Sunshine in my garage and said to my friend "I bet I can sell this in ten minutes."

It took 18 seconds for someone to buyout the auction. For a Wuling.

So I start up FH5 today and I am FORCED to immediately watch some bollocks dialog and do a point to point drive before I can even do anything else? This was ok for the 10 year anniversary update I guess, this is certainly not ok for this crap.
Yeah I started the game, was forced to watch that, finished it, then the game glitched and made me watch it again but with both the original dialogue and the dialogue for the next part playing. Then the game black screen crashed.

Then I played FH1 for a few hours and had a really good time.

I’ll come back to 5 again when this content is over.

Ah got ya bud. Glad you fixed it though.

1 is like a mega FH5 expansion in size but I finished it between sessions a couple of seasons back.

I didn't start FH Rally yet so it's gonna be like they put an expansion on my "expansion", dawg.

Weirdly, whatever's affecting the Donut Speed Zone is also affecting all other PR Stunts. Neither the final stage of the Weekly Challenge (three stars at Trailblazers) nor the Daily Challenge today (six stars from PR Stunts in a minute) were registering until a game shutdown and system reboot.

It has some neat upgrades and stuff. Like they knew people would hate it for being a Chinese van and put more work into it.
