It needs to happen. Jaguar's product line in Forza is severely outdated. Apart from the iconic XJ13, nothing else was added.

Like you, I'm hoping for new Jaguars to be added.
But don't forget him who was one of the latest models, even though he was added in FH4...

This is just my personal opinion, and I consider it "anti-democratic" in some ways, but it's about time they stop to add their beloved brands like BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, McLaren, Ford, etc. I think it's time to take a break and redirect those resources to brands that haven't received enough love.

Hyundai for example. Today they have grown into a prestigious brand that rivals Toyota and VW. And they are one of the brands that manufactures the performance line called N Line and the latest ICE and BEV, and is compatible with performance and environmental performance.
However, their lineup in Forza is Veloster only. This car isn't bad either, but it's far from the hot of their line-up today on its own.

Of course, Hyundai isn't the only brand neglected.
The Huracan gets a lot of variants on the FH5 alone. But on the other hand, Charger's latest and fastest trim level continued to be ignored. All we have is an obsolete Charger Hellcat without the widebody.
What about Renault? They got some love in FH4. But their newest model additions have stalled for years.
Peugeot. Yes, we understand why their models are hard to add. But it's still arguably the most underrated brand in Forza.
Of course this is just one example. While a handful of manufacturers have added many models, there are many models and brands that have been neglected for a long time. Putting them in the spotlight would definitely do well for Forza in the future.

At some point there are a whole gaggle of 300-400bhp electric "cars" coming out all over the place. Kia and Hyundai especially are betting on that route heavily.

They have become almost the replacement to the old hot hatch category as far as I can tell, but are probably all terrible to drive except off the traffic lights :D

Well said. You can add Subaru, Mazda, Aston Martin, Lotus, the Stellantis brands etc to the list too.

Even a slightly more niche marque like Volvo - is a good example

After getting the 123GT and 1800E in FH3, we've just gone backwards. Both of those models aren't ported to FH4, and neither is the XC90 from FM7. Now we just have a measly 3 models with no updates or even returning cars in sight.

It's sometimes annoying to look back and see brands that a had better representation back in the day but I guess that's just how it goes.

I'll throw TVR into the list, for some reason for FH5's launch they decided to cut a few models from a brand that already doesn't have many models in the game. Why?!

Licensing is hard and I doubt PG have a totally free hand in choosing which vehicles to add. I hope some of these more esoteric ICE vehicles aren't too much more expensive to get the rights to compared to the safe electric SUVs the big manufacturers want to push.

But all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and Horizon a dull and less engaging game so I hope the devs have deep enough pockets to stump up for some of the more iconic cars from yesteryear.

I wonder whether Forza Motorsport acts as a feed for Horizon car models the way Horizon seems to feed its elder brother or whether they bid for licences collectively.

They have always shared models, but in the past I think they were licensing cars per title, for a 4 year period after that title's launch. Hence why earlier Forza games were always delisted after 4 years.

FH4 seems to have been the start of some changes, though, because it was released in October 2018 and is nearly 5 years old but still for sale. So I guess Forza Motorsport and Horizon are now trying a more perpetual licensing model somehow?

If their plan is to keep FM in circulation longer it'd definitely seem like this is the way forward.

As I pointed out in another thread, and will keep spamming until @Famine writes an article  FH4 is included in the initial list of games in the Game Pass replacement for Games with Gold which starts in September, 10 days before the 5th anniversary of FH4's release, so FH4 is 99.9% guaranteed to go into a 6th year, unless something dramatic happens in the next 4/5 weeks.

Found something interesting again, this time a file containing various (new) cars. Keep in mind these are just reference. Things like textures, 3D models, sound doesn't exist yet for the new cars at this point. Again these cars might not get added to the game. Here is the highlight of the new cars found within the file.

AST_Lagonda_90 (Aston Martin Lagonda)
KTM_XBowGT2_20 (We have the GT4 version currently)
FOR_MustangSVT_03 (I think this one is newer than the one in game?)
FOR_EconolineDeberti_61 (Crazy build, look it up)
JAG_FTypeSVR_20 (Jaguar FType SVR, Facelifted version of the one in game)
BEN_FlyingSpur_19
BMW_M3_21
SAL_S7LM_17 (Saleen S7 LM, 1300hp)
MAS_MC20_22 (Yup)

The rest of the new cars are coming next update
FER_Roma_21
FER_296GTB_22
LAM_SC20_21
LAM_HuracanTecnica_23

I'll include the file so you can check it out by yourself. (scroll down on the file to see the cars mentioned here)
Are they going to give us the Continental GT or what?

Edit: these are great cars for sure, but the most anticipated car for me would be 'MCL_675LT_16'.

FH5 Release Notes: August 15th, 2023 (Italian Automotive)

We're constantly working to improve the experience in Forza Horizon 5. Below you will find a summary of items fixed or improved upon in this update.

Version Number:

  • Xbox One: 2.607.493.0
  • Xbox Series: 3.607.493.0
  • PC: 3.607.493.0
  • Steam: 1.607.493.0

New Features (Available from August 15th)

  • Increased Garage space (from 1000 to 2000 slots)
  • Increased Tune slots (from 600 to 1000 slots)
  • Increased Livery slots (from 600 to 1000 slots)
Developer’s Notes: “I wanted to share some of the complexities behind making a change like this.

The save game also contains a local copy of your campaign progression, as well as your cars, your liveries and tunes, and everything else. It's "reserved space", meaning that when we increase the size of the save game, we have to find and assign additional space on the disk to ensure we'll have it when we need it. If you’re wondering, this update will increase the size of the save game to 2 GB.

Since we synchronise this data to remote storage, increasing the space assigned on disk has a lot of second-tier complexity. For example, we need to increase the number of car thumbnails and car data that can be loaded by screens like Car Select at the start of events, or when you're viewing your Garage. The Auction House needs to be updated to handle the number of cars you could have at any one time. We need to deploy a new backend to begin supporting the change before we even get the on-disk update out to you, so we're sure that the servers are spun up and ready when the actual change goes live. Making things even more complicated is the fact that we manage two separate types of remote storage - one for Xbox or Steam (depending on your platform) and the other for our internal servers which primarily support the auction house, as well as the message center and loads of other systems that now need to know MaxCars=2000.

In short, making a change to the number of cars you can has impacts from the bytes on disk, through many screens and systems, and all the way out to the various servers that support the game.

TL;DR you can have 2000 cars now, I'm sorry it took so long to update it, but I hope this explanation provides a little bit of insights into what's actually involved.

Heads up, the Tipo 33 Stradale is 15 million credits. TZ2 is 4 millions.
I've been sitting on nine figures for a while now, so no worries here. Mostly I'm just glad that six of the cars I'm happiest to see back are all Autoshow purchases. Maybe even seven now that the Quadrifoglio Verde's absence has made the heart grow fonder, so to speak. And I'm not gonna scoff at the '80 124, either, especially if I can give it the Group 4 treatment.

I "only" have 100,000,000 credits or so but can't remember if any of the Autoshow cars are featured event prizes or Forzathon shop offers so will wait until the end of the season before getting my wallet out unless I'm really desperate.

I'm on 999,999,999 credits from selling prize cars before each new series starts. I've been doing it since FH4. I put them up for maximum buyout but always minimum starting price. Always turn a nice profit. My Sticker Car keeps me in plenty of Skill Points to replenish the new cars skills.
