Looking at these two, it seems like a drag racing update or like a 1v1 "drag race" thats not in a straight line, except one racer is on road and the other is off road.

Or it could just the aforementioned events but with asphalt and offroad as two separate categories. Just like how there is an offroad drag strip and an asphalt drag strip.

Either way it sounds like a new feature rather than just an update (obviously too soon to say that for sure).

These might be tests/features for FH6. FH4 did get a lot of features in its last year of live service (High Stakes, Super7, Drag run, Horizon Backstage, Photo challenges and Promo/ Promo Quickshot).

Maybe its like a 1v1 race mode that you sign up for like The Trial. You get put in a race against someone else - either on-road or off-road, maybe the routes are auto generated like the Eliminator.

Each race completed adds a total to the tally of "finished race-off's" by the community. Looks like there is a meter for Asphalt and Off-Road, so perhaps there is a certain number the community needs to accomplish and we'll get a reward for both.

Anyway, we'll soon find out what the race-off is all about. In the meantime, here is a speculative list of vehicles I think would suit the theme of the update.

Asphalt Racers:

From past Forzas:

1960 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato
1948 Ferrari 166 Inter Sport
2011 Lotus Evora S
1961 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage
1957 Maserati 300 S
2021 McLaren Sabre
1980 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS
1960 Porsche Emory Motorsports 356 RSR
1963 Shelby Monaco King Cobra
2004 Vauxhall VX220
2018 Volkswagen #94 VW Motorsport I.D R Pikes Peak

New to Forza:
2020 Bugatti Bolide
2020 Koenigsegg Gemera
2023 Ferrari Daytona SP3
2020 Maserati MC20 Coupe (will it ever come?)
2023 Pagani Utopia
2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992)

Off-Road Racers:

From past Forzas:

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio
1974 Hoonigan Ford Bronco
2006 HUMMER H1 Alpha Open Top
1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
2008 Volkswagen Touraeg R50

New to Forza:
2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
2022 Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato
2022 Maserati Levante Trofeo
2023 RAM TRX 1500
2023 Porsche 911 Dakar Edition
2017 Subaru Crosstrek Desert Racer

Will we ever see the Crosstrek come to Horizon? I think it would be the perfect fit for this update

It's probably more like a takeover of the Horizon Apex outpost for the duration of the Series, if I had to really guess what PG has in mind. The challenge itself sounds like a case of 'choose between Team Asphalt and Team Offroad and win head-to-head races in the open world against members of the other team for your team in Horizon Open to determine the superior discipline at Horizon Mexico'; this screenshot is just of the big Evolving World aspect.

The reward will probably not just be cosmetics for everyone based on the winning team, but also the content of a future Series; I seem to remember Team Germany winning the Horizon World Cup challenge, thus leading to the first Automotive Series being dedicated to German cars. Obviously someone correct me if I'm wrong there but if this is the case, I'm probably gonna play for Team Asphalt and do my part to avoid the very near-term possibility of Horizon Baja Takeover.
:P

If we're taking sides I'd rather be on Team Dirt. Other asphalt racing games are available but casual off roaders are few and far between.
I've got to say I would like some more off-road/X Country courses.
We already had a bunch of new road courses added, we need some new offroad/cross country courses next. Team Horizon Baja ftw!
Yeesh, wasn't expecting to be dunked on like this! :P

But yeah, more to the point of this being at Horizon Apex itself:

This appears to be a slope; just above the white border between the in-game screenshot and the promo, you can see what appears to be the white sand of Playa Azul poking out. Whatever this is, it ain't no drag strip!

I'm not dunking on ya bud, I still loves ya. A difference of opinion is good and healthy.

I think FH5 needs more courses in general - especially circuits - regardless if its on or offroad, so I'd be cool with either. Maybe I could play for both as a double agent :P

As for car predictions--we know we have the Funco C9, it's in the middle of the shot. But I'm going to be bold here and take the cynical route.

If this is indeed the biggest update since Horizon Creatives (which this definitely looks like considering the takeover aspect) I predict 40-point car weeks all around. Each slot would be dedicated to a car meant for one of the two disciplines competing this month; so one week you might have a 20-point asphalt car and a 40-point off-road car, the next, a 20 point offroad car and a 40 point asphalt car. Basically, the theme will be Modern Racing, or cars that are currently racing in one or both disciplines, likely trending from A-class to low S2--with a possibility of cars that can be tuned for both disciplines, for an alternative theme.

So, I predict:

Asphalt Cars:
Maserati MC20 (because what's a community challenge without a very appealing car reward--that's probably what the bars on the Race-Off stage are for, one free reward car for the community from each discipline if they get filled, this would be Team Asphalt's reward car)
2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (20 Points)
2023 Ford Mustang Dark Horse (40 Points)
Jaguar E-PACE race car (because tuneable EV SUV that is also good on asphalt; 20 Points)

European Extreme Track Toy, one of which I cannot think of right now (40 Points

Off-Road Cars:
Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato (this would be Team Off-Road's reward car I think)
Funco C9 (20 Points, possibly even a Series reward or DLC)
2022 Lamborghini Urus Performante (40 Points)
An active WRC rally car (40 Points)
Another modern trophy truck or race buggy (20 Points)

I still think the MC20 was originally planned for the Euro car pack instead of the Battista, and licensing somehow fell through.
At first I thought it was because Turn 10 decided at the last minute that they wanted it first for FM2023, but then Update 6 came and went with no sign of it. I figure there's no way Ubisoft's deal is exclusive, and that there's also just no way they'll let a community challenge by without reward cars for the community in exchange for engagement, so if it pops up here it's because Playground decided it would be better if everyone got it for free at some point.

If not... then it's probably licensing.

It could be even worse: T10 thought the MC20 would debut in FM23, but that fell through, then a couple of months later PG thought the MC20 would debut in the FH5 DLC car pack, but that also fell through (separately).

But who knows :D

Weebs rejoice... HokiHoshi just dropped a Japanese themed EventLab.

Fixed night time freeroam map: 735 039 022
Mountain Pass only time trial: 859 524 121
Rolling time freeroam starting at dawn: 785 657 193

Boy, do we need Event Lab in FM23! Imagine how many real life tracks would be created by players in minute detail and it would massively increase the playability beyond the current stale single player mode.

I do not see a Funco C9, but the F9 that we already have. I bet that the recycled cars will appear as seasonal rewards more often and New-to-Horizon cars being 20-40 point rewards. No car pack.

The idea of an Asphalt v. Offroad playlist will be a cool idea to see. I'll speculate:

Playlist Point Rewards

Asphalt Cars:
2023 McMurtry Speirling
2021 Maserati MC20
1980 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS
2021 McLaren Sabre

Offroad Cars:
2017 Camburg #8 Kinetik TT-L
2017 Subaru Crosstrek Desert Racer
2023 Porsche 911 Dakar
2023 Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato

Seasonal Rewards

Asphalt Cars:
2009 Lotus Evora S
2004 Vauxhall VX220
2018 Volkswagen #94 ID.R Pikes Peak
1960 Porsche 356 RSR Emory

Offroad Cars:
2015 Chevrolet Baldwin Motorsports Silverado Trophy Truck
1966 Ford F-100 Abatti Racing Trophy Truck
2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio
2006 HUMMER H1 Open Top

If that 288 GTO Evo ever makes it into an update, it could be nice to have here as an asphalt racer barn find.
And the DAF X1 as an offroad alternative.

Tbh anything from that old barn find leak - the Fiat S76, Ferrari, Baja Boot would be cool.
Shout out to that FL5 Civic Type R that was scanned about a year ago too.

Not a bad idea if it's doable at this late stage if the game. I've voted for it.

Not directly related to FH5, but some interesting news.
Seat was a brand that had no connection to America for many years. However, it appears they have decided to sell Cupra-branded cars in North America.

And the Forza series is a racing game series that represents "America" (even considering the fact that PG is a British studio).
They were already using the FH5 as a promotional tool, but now that they have decided to make a full-scale entry into North America, will more Cupra cars be added to the FH5/FM8?

The AMR Pro is such an amazing car to drive but apparently, the front wheels are not aligned with the wheel arches which looks kinda weird, and the windshield sticker is automatically removed when a custom paint or livery is applied. Hopefully they'll patch the car in future update.

Very doubtful, and for one probable reason: It's good in theory, but ultimately impractical. Yes, it might take less than an hour to copy the real car's dials to the ingame UI, but it would be impractical for cars that do not have a tach or speedometer dial.

Yes, PGR4 and TDU/TDU2 did have those, but this little detail simply isn't good to vote for. A turbo UI gauge or anything else would fit the bill instead.

Going back to predictions about the On-road/off-road series, should they add the "useless waste of space" called the Toyota 86 TRD which was added to FM as a paid car? (I'm only saying that in exaggeration)
