Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure Expansion

This is my main hope too. Off-road handling is already more forgiving than on-road handling in the game, so we really need technical routes for it to be interesting. The cliffside trail on Fortune Island was great, so we know they're capable of it. Hopefully we get more of that, and in big enough quantities.

I wonder if we'll get tarmac rally routes too, or whether it'll be only off-road.
Agree with this. Fortune Island had some cracking off road routes in it and I really like the dirt climb up the mountain on FH5. I'm hoping that there will be a good map to go with this with a detailed Baja arena. As you say, some technical routes would be great, some tight tarmac routes and maybe some difficult climbs to go with it. Just fully go in on the off road theme.

Perhaps the killer feature for it will be some proper surface degradation, creating ruts and such, like Sega Rally on the Xbox did. Perhaps even if they go for a some rally stages, proper rally launches and staggered starting (which would play in to the degrading surface thing really well).

Out of the top 20 most requested new to Forza, these ones would fit the Baja theme as they are all-wheel drive and/or offroad focused:

  • Toyota Yaris 2020-current (Gen4) (GR Yaris)
  • Ram 1500 2018-current (Ram TRX)
  • Volkswagen Golf Mk8 2020-current (Golf R)
  • Audi A6 / S6 / RS6 (C8) 2019-current (RS6 Avant)

Would be nice to see at least a few of them, the GR Yaris and Ram TRX would particularly fit well, though I'm hoping for the RS6 the most.

Without sounding too cynical, from the track record so far I'm not sure the new cars will be quite as wishlist-y as expected. For every off-road supercar that's wanted like the 911 Dakar or Huracan Sterrato I'd expect another variation of an existing buggy, and for every new, shiny, sci-fi truck like the Rivian I'd expect to get something like a rusty 80s pickup instead. Instead of deformable terrain and other amazing tech, I'd expect the expansion gimmick to be much more mundane (lest we forget that treasure hunts were the big main feature of FH4's realistic expansion).

It's like this with most Horizon news now, where fan rumours of a city in Japan turn out to be a desert in Mexico, almost as opposite as possible. I personally am just looking forward to a new map to explore and new races to run, any interesting new vehicles are a bonus.
I too am pessimistic about the expansion 2 car list, but in my case, on the contrary, I believe that the latest off-road supercars will take precedence over 80's pickups/4x4s and new buggies.
Because these cars have two reasons.

One is the overwhelming fan base. Whether we like them or not, their numbers and desires are overwhelming: every time Lamborghini or Porsche announces a new trim level, the official forums and twitter replies will receive a huge number of requests for them.
The number of opinions will no doubt be hundreds or even thousands of times greater than the opinions we have for a classic C10, Blazer, or Tahoe.
And one more thing. These models are different variants of existing models.
Because these models can divert existing data and assets, they can be added to a game more easily than adding a completely new model to a game.

After looking around i just realized that they added new badges in the files after Japanese Automotive Update but can't seem to find them on badges section of the menu (AFAIK). It's unclear what TT in front of the file name supposed to be, but looking back to Anniversary Update when they did add badges it is named HAS_Badge name (attached picture with Horizon Anniversay Badges name for reference).
TT definitely sounds like the Test track feature (spanner, car and cone make sense). I'm not sure what moon and pig have to do with it tho.

Sad but very, very true I imagine and fear.

I’m sure you have something that can fill all of them instead ;):P

You stated the problem in your last sentence. It isn't the track record it's the fan rumors that people pass off as truth without any sources or proof. They are the ones that get people hyped for things like Japan, that don't happen, and then cause anger at PGG for something that isn't their fault.

It's a sad state when there are people out there with nothing better to do then make fake images, trailers, etc. just for the sheer purpose of trolling and/or deceiving people.

The 2 technical issues I have (GMC Jimmy clipping through the ground, and Auction House cars being unsellable) are “won’t fix” 😕
I can understand why some of them are the 'won't fix' stuff, especially the barn finds. But some of them are illogical, like the gear shift animation of the MK4 Supra. That was fine in previous games, but not in FH5. Anything regarding vehicle models is out of the question.

As for others filed in the won't fix - it seems that localization problems are rife. There's several threads about it making some tasks impossible in other languages.

As for the new expansion - this is a welcome change. It's not Lego, though. But I like where it's going.

I'm a bit underwhelmed about a Baja/Dirt expansion but will reserve judgment until the live stream reveals more news on it.

What are everyone's predictions on a release date?

I think it'll be at the start of Series 19 - 30th of March. The Horizon Wilds Takeover will be the series lead in much like the Hot Wheels series lead into the Hot Wheels expansionrelease date.

You've probably hit the nail on the head straight away bud.

I guess when a game has this much content you need to be brutal with what you commit to fixing.

I’ve seen (on the games I’ve worked on) why some things are “won’t fix” and usually it’s got a reasonable explanation. Some things are simply so far down the priority order that they’ll never get looked at, other things are engine limitations, and a few may have had QA bash their heads at them for ages but without a solution in sight.

The Barn Finds thing is probably an intentional design choice.

The Jimmy I’m disappointed in because it’s legitimately a meta contender in some classes, but it can’t take a big jump without glitching out so it’s always a risky pick.

Or one of those cookies - or biscuits as the Brits say - instead?
Cookies and biscuits are different things.

Cookies, like cakes, are baked once, eaten soft and go hard when they are stale. Biscuits are twice-baked (that's... literally what the name means) and eaten hard, but go soft when they are stale.

What are your expectations and fears for expansion 2?

My expectations:
  • Great off-road racing experience
  • Map with great gravel
  • Add at least one (completely new) 4x4, pickup, or rally raid car
  • New weather, new upgrade parts, new racing rules and other new features
My fears:
  • Cars included in the expansion can only be obtained once (well, this was solved by HW expansion, so probably a groundless fear)

I expect some highly requested cars to be there, of which i want the GR Yaris. Probably a variant of an existing car of 2 like the Huracan Sterrato or a newer Raptor/Ram. Probably a focus on multiple biomes again. Lightbars as an upgrade.

Fear is that they will not bring something new enough (worth 8 months of wait). The map and cars will generally carry and expansion rather than the smaller features, so getting unremarkable car variants and/or map being to similar to the base map will hurt it even in just the first look. Also kinda worried that it wont come out before June, and that the next few series updates will be filler (like the last 4) with nothing notable in them.
