Bill..........Microsoft, you know?

I may be accusing him, somewhat inadvertently, however the Turn10 Forza3 game and DLCs follow much the same pattern Microsoft has used for years.

Its the big obvious difference between the games of Turn10 and PD.

The first priority for Turn10 is to make a game for the purpose of making money.

Kaz's first priority is to make the game as high in quality and quantity as possible for the passion of it, and on that merit it will sell and make money.

Do you think PD will offer GT5 download content for free?

GT5 will more than likely offer DLC for a price and unlike Turn 10 I bet we'll get even more since it takes so long for GT installments to come to the market. I have a good feel GT will be as much of a nickle and dime venture as any other game on the market today. To think otherwise is foolish.

At some point, probably no. But its doubtful there will be any for a quite a while after the game is out. If PD follows suit and starts charging for payable DLC right after the game is released, I will be very surprised.

Sony is a big influence on this so I might get surprised.

Everything is subject to change without notice.

SuperCobraJet, stop it. You are making GT fans look stupid.

How so?

If what Kaz said recently is true about the depth of content of GT5, being dizzying, there won't be any need for DLC for quite a while.

I'll be surprised if they don't start putting out DLC within a month or two of release, PD is still a company out to make money. Game companies almost have to keep with the DLC to keep people coming back to the game and getting more people to buy it.

I'd rather say you can, to my knowledge, neither copy DLC nor sell it second hand nor rent it, so it's pretty safe money for the developer. I guess that's what they want, because speaking retail, the dealer gets a fair share, it's all that tedious handling involved and at the end of the day, they have to put up with all those unsold copies.

Please tell me you're talking about another Bill & not Mr. Gates....

Sorry, but I agree with him. I have more than 15 years experience with Micro$oft.

I'll be very surprised if they do. I sincerely doubt more than a handful of people can collect half of those 1000 some odd vehicles, regardless how many duplicates there are.

What I'd expect, if any DLC is forthcoming is semi-annual, or even annual, car packs of 100 or so for either $10, $5, or free. Tracks, I don't know, maybe 3-10 for the same deal.

Free? Sure. After all, PS3 online is still free after three years. And considering that Polyphony Digital has sold around 50 million games for SONY to date, I don't think they're hurting for cash. ;)

As for Bill Gates, someone can inform me if he no longer receives a pence from Microsoft or not. He sure didn't seem to mind becoming the richest man on the planet for a time.

You do know he has pretty much "retired" from Microsoft & now concentrates more on his charity foundation, right? Or that he could probably care even less about how Microsoft is running Xbox Live, let alone 1 game.

Yea I'm aware of that. Somehow he doesn't strike me as a guy who would care less about how any division of Microsoft is doing particularly profit wise.
In fact if he cares to check on any department, its probably the gaming.

Old Bill has been floating Billions in red ink for sometime now, to buy Microsoft a top seat in the video game industry. I would think he might be interested when it may eventually pay a dividend.

BTW its not about one game, its a company wide philosphical priority, and for the reasons just listed, it most assuredly has not bypassed the gaming division. Kind of like a subliminal mission statement.

Its actually a priority of most companies and has to be. However there can be big differences in how you go about it.

The ignorance in this thread is mind boggling. Are you all share holders?

So MS are evil and Sony are saints? Yeah, like Sony have never ripped people off or charged for DLC, they are perfect, right?

There is a reason Sony are 2 billion dollars in debt.

Uh, it's probably the OS part of Microsoft he is more interested in.

Yeah, like only six or seven people in the whole world got 500 of the ~780 cars in GT4. You don't think people will want to drive the next Ferrari GT car, a new M3, or any other hot, newly released car in the next five years? To think that a racing game won't do DLC because it isn't needed is terrible logic. Its a missed opportunity for lots of profit on a relatively small effort. I think its funny how much people can bitch about having to pay for a group of cars in a racing game, or maps in a shooter. Yet look at Rock Band and Guitar Hero. $1-$1.99 per song. This holiday DLC pack was $0.50 per car, which I'm certain takes more work to put into a game than a song.

PS3 online may be free, but the DLC isn't. The Killzone 2 map packs are $5 each, the car packs for Burnout Paradise and Midnight Club 3 were $8 when they originally came out. You can now get them in a bundle for $10 (like 15 cars I think). I can't think of many, if any games on any console (PS3 or Xbox360) which give free DLC that's actually more than 1 little map or 1 car or some small content like that.

All this DLC hullabaloo is useless to me, I'm still a release or 2 behind with games.
For example: I'm still not finished with Forza 2. :), haven't played any of the Halo's on 360 yet, No Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 yet, I started Gears 2 but parked it for now, GT PSP, bunch of WII games, RE 5 PC, STALKER clear sky, Wolfenstien, SBK'08, GT Prologue...I have only put in 6,000 miles in GTR2 and haven't driven every car on every track yet. :sly:
I have never purchased any DLC and I don't think I ever will. there are just too many good games out there to be spending $5-$10 on a few new cars, tracks or maps...
By themselves they are not expensive but add them up and you will want your friend to kick you in the nuts for tossing away your hard earned dough.
meh, that's my feeling towards DLC.

FM3's new DLC is nice but I can't help but feeling it could have been in the game from the start. Honestly just for good PR I would have liked it better if they had just held it off until the new year. MW2 is not getting DLC until Spring. To me that shows that at least some of the content was worked on after the games launch.

As far as good DLC goes: the LBP MGS pack was worth my money, as were the KZ2 map packs and Warhawk map packs. There was just enough content there, long enough after the release to keep me interested.

This isn't directed toward you, or anyone here but what's with the "DLC is the devil" operation? Before everyone was bitching and moaning about games being too short, not enough content being available, or just hoping your favorite game(s) could be lengthened to any degree. Now that they are you're bitching because it costs money?

Hasn't anyone ever told you that you get little to nothing without paying a premium for it? Compare PS Network (free) to Xbox Live Silver (also free) you get pretty much all of the same things, except the former gives you multiplayer. Now compare that same PSN to Xbox Live Gold.

I rest my case; and I don't wanna hear "Well, the PS3 has a web browser and Folding@Home!" If I wanted to browse the web, or Fold for a good cause I'd do so on my computer.

Jesus H Christ, I come in hear to ask a question and I see almost two full pages of bickering? Please stop. I would like my question answered without being buried under this nonsense.

---------------------------

At the risk of sounding like one of those new members that asks a question everyone knows the answer to, here goes.

OK, I decided to play around with the auction house a bit. Buying cars seemed simple enough and I even bought a cheap BMW just to test out how the system works (and grab the sniper achievement). Last night I decided to see how selling worked as I had some ideas for when I decide to try playing with the livery editor and tuning. I have an Audi R8 4.2 that I tuned a bit to be competitive in the A class championship that turned out much better than I expected. It was mainly tuned for handling, but I did add an extra 30+hp. It was the only car in my garage that I actually spent significant time getting just right and thought it might be a good one to throw up for auction.

That was when I ran across my questions. When I tried to select it the game told me that I couldn't use the car currently being used in my championship. Immediately I wondered if I actually lost the car when I sold it at auction.

First, I checked the manual and could find no help there and I saw nothing in game that was helpful. It seems like the community features are an extension from Forza 2, which I didn't play, thus why I am asking what likely appears to be a noob question.

So, then I decided to check the FM.net forums. That was going to take forever, but in my searching I saw comments regarding spam and "win" cars being frowned upon. I figured out that spam meant selling the same car repeatedly. I see that and it is annoying, but then that made me think I don't lose a car I auction.

Anyway, I am now left with a few questions.

1) If I auction a car do I lose it from my garage?
1a) If no, why can't I auction my current car?
1b) If yes, then how are people spamming to an annoying point?
2) What exactly defines spam? Multiples all at once, or more than one ever? It just seems to me that if your car is popular there is no reason not to make it available multiple times as long as you aren't being obnoxious about it.
3) What is a win car?

1: Yes.
2: Spam = reselling unlocked paints. You buy one or several designs, slap them on a car, and auction it. Spam is everything that is not original content.
3: Well, I have a guess at that one. Put a lot of wins on a car (and level it up) - can be done by short races round oval tracks e.g. So "everyone" thinks it must be a killer car because it has lots of wins to it. No matter how crap he setup is.

4: Profiteering: Some cars are put up by garages at very low prices - some buy them all, and resell them for a multiple of the original price.

Well, this all is really a bit childish though and I wouldn't pay that much attention to it. They only legit way of earning cash is considered to be spending ages on tuning and/or in the livery editor. Shame, if you're really in it for the racing ;)

Not sure on the spamming thing, but when you put a car up for auction it's moved from your garage to the Auction House, at that point you can't use the car unless you cancel the auction or you fail to sell the car, then it gives you an option to restart the auction or 'retrieve' your car cant remember the word.

Thank you, sirs. 👍

So, I will actually have to purposely stir up trouble to get a bad reputation in the community then? I'd hate to piss people off while I am just trying to test out all the stuff and see how it works.

Well, no.

Just don't ask too much for your car and don't put on "spam" paint that can be easily recognised as such. A logo or three don't hurt.

Have a look through the garage catalogues and see what they charge for their tunes, builds and cars with paints.

They seem to be a bit narrow minded at times, but that shouldn't stop you getting in that "business" and many are really, really helpful.

No need to drag Jesus into this mess. Besides, I'm done discussing a monopoly taken to federal U.S. court a number of times for hostile business actions.

If you have a car currently engaged in a championship race series, evidently you can't auction or otherwise get rid of it.

Hey guys...GTRs are live.

15 of both designs and their corresponding setups. Get them while you can. Search for keywords: GTP, GTPLANET, ERIC, EBIGGS to find my storefront.

Cool. I'm quite curious to see what your S class tune is like as I'm not overly thrilled with mine yet. Will definitely buy it and the livery and rate both.

Thanks. Tunes are similar. Just a little more development put into the R3 one. I'm racing the R3 online right now. Took third in the first race, which started with a big pileup in turn one, still had the fastest lap (it's a time attack car, after all ), FIRST in its second race, and second in its third race behind a really quick FXX.

I've noticed the front tires start overheating pretty quickly. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do about that. Probably just a weight issue.

Edit: Fourth race - fastest lap besides the Viper ACR and FXXs (typical dominating cars).

Final: Yep, pretty confident in this car now. Think I might add just a touch of toe, it had quite a bit to begin with on the test car phase, but got squirrely at ~150mph. Not sure it would even stay on track at 200+.
