Forza Motorsport 4 Review: How about a little comparison?

I use a steering wheel as it feels more engaging, but I do run it at 210 degrees..

I appreciate some want ultra realism and probably dial in the exact rotation range for each particular car, however, motorsport shows you that quicker steering racks are used in all the top tiers of motorsport, I'm just extrapolating that notion and have set the rotational range to one that gives me the perfect balance between quickness and accuracy that yields faster laptimes for my driving style..

I did get a fanatec to get that next level up in precision and FFB, it's certainly not wasted for me, I hugely enjoy it, and even would like the CSR Elite, no doubt set at <270 degrees to take it to the next level again..

It depends on your own personal preference, I understand why people might want 900 degrees, and have zero issues with that, and I'd expect them to reciprocate that with those of us that run low SENS values..

It's kinda hard to draft up an unbiased review when you already have your opinion ready.
Forza was your clear victor before you started typing. Forza still doesn't give you that magic that GT does. It is a solid game that I've had some fun with. I respect your opinion and understand if we all agreed on everything the world would be a pretty boring place.

I had sometime alone home today because class got out early (yay no tutorials today!) and cranked up the volume on my default TV speakers. The Aston Martin V12 in the DBS and V12 Vantage sounded heavenly.

While some cars in GT5 sound good, alot of them sound like vacuums. (with the exception of the X2010 because it literally is a vacuum :sly: )

To Wheel users of both games.

Crank up GT5 with all the latest updates.
Take out a S200 or a mark iv ford (20 million one I believe)

Mark iv comes with racing hards S200 racing softs.
I had to dial back the tires to comfort medium/hard to get any sort of power oversteer out of the S200. FR btw. Couldn't get any decent wheel spin through the gears on either.

May be the problem is the fact you have to back right off the throttle to change gears (G27). The Mark iv is a torque monster, oh the S200 I used was the RM one.

What I'm trying to say is that both felt easy to drive on sports hard. Date I say it almost on rails. Is this a 2.01 update thing. Or has Forza taught me better throttle control and GT now feels easier?

Someone else who plays with a wheel try it and tell me I'm not mad.

I'm new to both the XBox and Forza, but I've played GTs since 3. In fact, I bought a PS2 after seeing GT3, and even went with a PS3 in anticipation of GT5.

In short, I decided to try Forza 4 after being kind of disappointed with GT5. While I think that the additional content they've provided over the last year has made it close to the game I thought I was buying, the AI, sound and lack of offline races still bother me.

I think most aspects of the physics are a little better in GT5, especially when going off the track (Forza 4's grass is sticky marshmallow cream, I think, but I can see that they did that), but I find controlling the brakes and accelerator with the controller much better with Forza 4. For instance, I always try to play with all assists off, but in GT5 I eventually gave up and put ABS at 1. (In that respect I've driven some pretty powerful cars without electronic assists and never had the brakes lock up like they do in GT5. It may just be my lack of skill with the controller). With Forza 4, however, I can leave everything off and be really smooth with the triggers.

I do really like the weather and time effects in GT5, but I can't say that I miss them much in Forza. I also like the rivals mode in Forza. (I haven't tried much online racing in Forza, but I decided not to companion about the AI in GT5 after experiencing what happens online.)

Overall, though, it came down to this. After playing Forza 4 for a bit, I fired up GT5, downloaded the updates, then went for a time attack in a new online race. I was feeling pretty good afterwards, thought I'd race some more, then looked at the dearth of offline races and remembered my disappointment. I went back to Forza and realized that, while it may be lacking in some areas, I was just having more fun with it.

This Forza is like a dream come true. I've been a PS man since one and never saw what the fuss was all about. I went and bought an XBox and Forza 4. I am shocked. This shize is amazing. Everything I've seen as a wish list for GT5 is in this game!!! I'm keeping my PS3...in it's box. Hello Bill. How's business?
I want to make clear I've been a GT fanatic since GT4 really. I was too young to get into GT3 and by the time I did GT4 was it. GT5, I bought the signature edition. I bought a new slim PS3 to play it on and a shiny new wheel. Then I played it seriously. 100% complete like A spec 40 b-spec 40 and lots of cars all teh premiums and a lot of the standards (which I don't even wanna drive cause the experience is garbage). And I look at it and can't decide if I want to drive a Miata MX-5 '90 (j), or the Mazda MX-5 '91 (EP). Or maybe the GTR Spec V. Nur III (R-33), Or the GTR V. Spec Nur (R-33). Hmmmm, decisions, decisions. I love cars, and the truth is I admire Kazunori for what he does and how he does it. I will always support as best I can GT5, but I'll be driving Forza. There are more cars I want to drive. There a SICK tracks. The Hokaido? Japanese Touge track is bananas and one of the reasons I bought the game. Also, the Nurburgring is more challenging for me in this game. It seems more bumpy. I read a lot of threads on this and similar forums and I took a really long hard look at GT5, and I was hesitant to go Forza because I heard that the tracks where nerfd and that the ring was inaccurate. Compared to Gt5 it is, but compared to footage from the 2010 Nurb 24 hour race it isn't. especially when you are in car un forza. actually for me it feels more real. especially the bridge just before Flugplatz. and the Wherseifen chickane before Ex Muhle too as well as the nameless left righter after kalenhard is spot on as well.
I can easily go round the ring in under 8 minutes in damn near anything with legs. Not in forza. I see me buying a Fanatec soon.
