Should it be "free to play" or buy to play

  • Buy to play(like how it is on consoles)

looks great (xbox one controller "rumbling triggers" working perfectly!) but unplayable for me (stutter in corners), badly optimized, Project CARS looks better and i dont have any problems with that game, i hope this is just for the beta...

Just finished downloading it, it doesn't even start. Maybe it doesn't support Xeon processors? It just goes kicks me out back to Windows without saying anything.

So, Forza on PC performs like CARS on consoles. When I played CARS on One, the frame rate was inconsistent and often dropped, especially in corners, and at times the frame rate was slow enough that you could just about count the frames aloud as they appeared. (I found that it helped to completely close out the game when finished and rebooting the game when next I'd play rather than using the resume function, as resuming seemed to somehow murder performance.)

Just a quick question while this is downloading, is it possible to play using DS4Tool? Or to even use a PS4 controller at all?

Is that because the resolution is better on PC or because they use a different raindrop effect?

Most likely a difference in the map that they use for XB and PC.

The game is need of a lot of optimization though, the requirements for final products should be lower. I say that because I'm having some FPS issues in the wet weather (and sometimes in dry conditions) but my GPU usage never exceeds ~85% and the power target never exceeds ~65%. Even the temperature stays in the 60s (Not the case with other demanding games). The game is a VRAM hog though, using as much as 5.3GB of VRAM.

My specs: i7 3770@3.9GHz, 16GB DDR3@1333MHz, GTX780OC 6GB

Damn that water tiling.

Once you see it, its all you see. They have to fix this.

btw. I have a Xeon too. I wonder how this will go.

It took me about 5 seconds to start hating the windows store, asking me for my windows account login that I have no clue about. Currently downloading, it never asked what drive I wanted it stored on so I hope it asks me before it installs....

Won't let me download it as I need 'a device with more features', doesn't say which features though... Considering my PC runs Assetto Corsa on high settings quite nicely I'm frustrated that I can't even see what it runs like 👎

Oof. That obvious tiling of the raindrops on the bodywork has never seemed as noticeable on the XB1.
I spotted it on darker cars a lot, most notably the Jeep Willys, Porsche 914 and anything with a fairly flat boot/trunk top.

Great to see this coming to PC
Now this game will be visible in all its beauty I suppose and with maintained 60fps.

Just have recently sold both my PS4 and XB1 to go back to PC which I hope to build in the coming week. My problem is wanting to hold out for one of the new GFX cards.

Anyone willing to try this:
i7 6700K 16GB RAM and using (HD530 GFX Only) :)

Anyone else getting this message?

See below "To use this, you need to upgrade Windows. Go to aka.ms/winup"

I'm trying this solution (Upgrade... from Windows 10 to Windows... 10...)

Thanks TonyJZX I think you're right. This is what someone reported for Quantum Break so hopefully applies for Forza Motorsport 6: Apex (Beta) and others.

Will report back with an update...

*UPDATE* Yes I am now downloading it, woah 18.8GB, and doesn't have wheel support yet? Hope I can get my PS3 controller working (would be a bit ironic).

But back to the thread.

I'm sure someone said it, but this is the mega advantage of Microsoft over Sony here, this would never happen with PD and a beta of GT:S or GT:7. Wow that would be amazing though, I'd sell my PS3 in a heart beat.

Hi all,im not posting much here, but my 2 cents on this matter.
I dont think it will be bad move from T10 to release Forza on PC (full version i mean). Its actually very smart move. And i have xbone as well.
It will make game devs get more $,which is bad and good at same time.Such racing games are quite niche thing, besides many only PC racers were waiting for this years. And if they make shared servers with xbone/pc players,it will be even better (but you can expect more cheaters from PC as well - Division is perfect example)
And hopefully they wont make xbone version much more dumbed down than pc.Graphically of course PC will look better - looking at Apex atm and i see different game :D

Looking at some of these tech posts, it shows what an incredible job of optimisation they must have to do with the Xbox One version.
The Xbox version is rather well-polished indeed.

That being said it must be a lot easier to develop for a single set of specs than to have a game that's meant to work with a near infinite combination of graphics cards, drivers, sound cards etc.

That's why I never got into PC gaming, all of the compatability & customisable components just get in the way of what I want to do: play games. With a console I buy a box, stick a disc in, and away I go.

That's not really how development works; you build the game to the specifications of whatever the workstation is, whether it be console, PC or both, and let the near infinite number of hardware combinations on PC sort itself out. That's a really... oversimplified version of what actually happens, but you don't sit there and build your engine using several hundred toolsets because you'd never release the game. Ever. :P

Even more so considering T10 only has to build the game once for both the One and PC and then optimize accordingly.

As for just playing games, it's no different on a PC. I don't know where everyone gets this notion that PC's are a hassle to work with, require a PhD in the sciences of the world or have to be upgraded every 3-6 months - they don't. Now I won't argue with outright ease of use as consoles definitely have that, and it you've had a horrible experience with a PC beforehand I can completely understand why you'd swear them off, but they're far easier to cope with than some believe.

Tested it for 5 minutes before going to work... Of course there will be issues, its a Beta not a final product, at least for those 5 mins i could play it smoothly, 1920x1080, medium settings (i couldnt select High, it said i needed more RAM). My pc specs are I7 2600k, 8gb RAM DDR3, and a R9-270x..

anyways, i prefer xbox version, works flawlessly imo... and i'm more of a lazy gamer i like to turn on the console and start playing...

Got the same fault on a different cpu.
Black screen with Forza logo -> White screen -> Black one with the screen overlay message -> then white screen again and suddenly back to Windows without any errors.
And no clues in Windows error reporting either.
(And yes, Windows and driver all updated)

Funnily enough that's what I did this morning on the PC version. Had 20 mins to spare before heading off to work, so fired up Apex and started playing. PC gaming is really no different to console gaming. Yes you can get involved in the more technical side of things if you want but there's no need to, especially with a platform like Steam.

What are audio options?
Mr Latte, I thought a man of your technical knowledge would know that. Audio options are where the sounds output by the game can be adjusted....

Only joking! From memory there are a couple of sliders to change relative volumes of different sounds and an option to change for the type of speaker system, so tv, headphone, surround system. Will check tonight and give more info.

Yeah pretty much but sure does sound good. Check out the two comparison vids that are kicking about. I think it's sounds significantly better on PC.

Yes seen them earlier.
I found the game for the most part had good audio, although disliked the thud sound with crashes.

Now all Turn 10 need to do is add wheel/motion and VR support :)
