Warning: Picture heavy post (pics in spoilers)

I've had a little play around with the scrape and dent settings in the GlobalCarAttributes.xml file, and this is what I was able to find. The original settings are:

Code:
<Denting>
<DentEntry0 Speed="0.000000" Radius0="0.150000" Radius1="0.150000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
<DentEntry1 Speed="15.000000" Radius0="0.300000" Radius1="0.350000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
<DentEntry2 Speed="45.000000" Radius0="0.400000" Radius1="0.700000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
<DentEntry3 Speed="80.000000" Radius0="0.500000" Radius1="2.100000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
</Denting>
<Scraping>
<ScrapeEntry0 Speed="0.000000" Radius0="0.150000" Radius1="0.150000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
<ScrapeEntry1 Speed="15.000000" Radius0="0.320000" Radius1="0.320000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
<ScrapeEntry2 Speed="45.000000" Radius0="0.320000" Radius1="0.320000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
<ScrapeEntry3 Speed="80.000000" Radius0="0.320000" Radius1="0.320000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
</Scraping>

I don't know what these numbers referred to whether km/h or mph, so I took the assumption that they would be the former as it's easier to be more accurate. The first change I made was to the scraping, with the following settings:

Code:
<ScrapeEntry0 Speed="0.000000" Radius0="0.050000" Radius1="0.050000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
<ScrapeEntry1 Speed="15.000000" Radius0="0.150000" Radius1="0.150000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
<ScrapeEntry2 Speed="45.000000" Radius0="0.220000" Radius1="0.220000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
<ScrapeEntry3 Speed="80.000000" Radius0="0.320000" Radius1="0.320000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>

Which produced the following results. As you can see, it didn't work - the denting remained intact however the scratching didn't occur at any speed, leading us to believe that there must be a valid minimum radius value of 0.15.

Lastly, because I knew I had to wind the scratches back to where they were, I did a bit of tweaking with the denting as well as the scratching

Code:
<Denting>
      <DentEntry0 Speed="0.000000" Radius0="0.100000" Radius1="0.100000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
      <DentEntry1 Speed="15.000000" Radius0="0.200000" Radius1="0.300000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
      <DentEntry2 Speed="45.000000" Radius0="0.300000" Radius1="0.600000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
      <DentEntry3 Speed="80.000000" Radius0="0.500000" Radius1="2.100000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="0.000000"/>
    </Denting>
    <Scraping>
      <ScrapeEntry0 Speed="0.000000" Radius0="0.150000" Radius1="0.150000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
      <ScrapeEntry1 Speed="15.000000" Radius0="0.150000" Radius1="0.150000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
      <ScrapeEntry2 Speed="45.000000" Radius0="0.220000" Radius1="0.220000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
      <ScrapeEntry3 Speed="80.000000" Radius0="0.320000" Radius1="0.320000" Damage0="1.000000" Damage1="1.000000" Damage2="1.000000"/>
    </Scraping>

This had the side effect of removing all dents, however it did give the opportunity to assess the scratches.

You can see with these pictures, specifically towards the top edge and top of the arch of the front wing, there's a marked difference in the impact between 20mph and 50mph, which there should be. However, as mentioned before, the denting didn't happen so we definitely know that there is a minimum of 0.15000 radius for both scrapes and dents.

I'll conduct further tests with the maximum value as well to see if I can reduce the upper range so overall the scrapes are reduced as less excessive.
That's why I just turned the visual damage off. You can play with the speed settings and get the first tier of scratches harder to trigger but overall, the texture is the texture and it seems to be in 3 tiers. I personally would be happy if it just stuck to the first tier of scrapes and dents. Lightly tapping the rear of a car and seeing scrapes appear out of no where on top of the trunk where your car can't even reach is a bit much.

I agree with you that they are a bit excessive, but there has to be some trade-off between accuracy and effect for the sake of performance. I'll have a play around with it when I have some time and see if any of the other settings will reduce the effect; we've seen that you could always fudge the scrape numbers by changing the 00 speed radius numbers to below 0.15 and remove the scrapes but keep the dents.

I was wondering and would like to ask you guys and girls

What type of car would bring more good attention to Forza Motorsport? NASCAR update has helped the game get a good player boom, does other type of car or series would have a similar impact? F1 would be the another series but they have excluvity, maybe more LMDh/Hybercar content?

The widest reach would be GT3 and LMDh/LMH/GTP.

However, a career mode overhaul with a open lobby or drift lobbies/open track day lobbies or Multiplayer AI would probably be better for the long term.

I agree, I don't think that cars would make that much difference as you can make decent series out of the cars. What I think would make a difference is the custom open lobbies and/or trackday - multiplayer AI would be OK, but not that much of a deal breaker.

What would make significant differences would be the addition of the Creation Hubs like FH5, not just for paints/tunes but custom championships with detailed rule specifications such as per-event rules (ie, weather/time), car groups, per-group power/grip rebalancing, etc. I think there'd also be a massive boost with an Events Lab-style creation system to make your own circuit which could then be used in custom lobbies - imagine being able to host a full season of BTCC racing with the correct cars and custom tracks replicated, either within a single-player campaign or mutliplayer.

As others have said, I would lean towards more of a fleshed out and a more customizable career and freeplay mode that would keep players more engaged and bring in more player traffic.

I think career needs the ability to pick cars that fit into the restrictions anytime during a pre-race event. Sometimes I don't like using the same car for all 3 or 4 events and to be able to customize the car in the pits too before a race. The ability to adjust lap length just like FM7 for each and every single race; short, medium, endurance lengths. Dozens of new non time locked/non FOMO events added maybe every few months that cater to all different divsions, rivalries and challenges which that could also be them bringing back events like autocross, car passing challenges and 1 V 1's. And bring back all previous events and rewards from past updates. Also the pre-race menus can be condensed some so it's not a bunch of clicking just to start a race, small things like that would help go a long way.

Freeplay is nearly perfect but a few things like a share hub with the ability to share our custom races with other players, the ability to challenge the grid picking where we start the race, hand picking the AI cars, roll off starts per divsion in addition to whats there now per row amd per car, optional qualifying before a race and being able to have wet and dry weather be utilized for a race in the weather slots would ideal things to have.

To add to all this though I do think certain divisions/cars added to the game could start to pull some players back in or at least retain who's already here. More modern GT3 cars to help fill what we have now and several more LMDH cars with the very least being the ARX-06, SC63, and 499P would be great. I could see modern Indycars, filling in gaps in the LMP1 class, additional GT4 cars, 90s BTCC, additional 1970s TransAm, COPA trucks, and daily sports/track cars pumping up some player numbers a lot more.

So, patch expected next week then.

Here's the only official communication about it so far:

February’s update will be a celebration of Daily Racers in Forza Motorsport, showcasing numerous modern cars that only show their true potential once unleashed onto the track.

We recently finalized our plan for the updates we will be making available to you in the first half of 2025. This includes a content update in May that will include a fan favorite track. Leading up to that, we will continue adding new-to-Motorsport cars and events into the game, themed around Daily Racers [Feb.], Velocity [Mar.], and Porsche Motorsport Icons [Apr.].
As we’ve been working through all this new content, we’ve also been continuing to look towards future updates. This means that our work on some of the features we previously announced for early 2025 may be re-evaluated as we complete our new plans. Until then over the next three months our updates will be new content only.

The only thing we can really guarantee from this so far is that there won't be any tracks until May.

"New content only" is pretty vague but most likely means, some "new" cars and events, just like any other update.

I do not expect any feature changes/additions or significant bug fixes as neither are "new content".

Update should drop on Monday (i.e. the 10th) considering prior update schedules.
The game will probably be in a holding pattern till May (but with increased cars being added, like the last 2 updates with a bunch of Holdens and a bunch of BMWs).

(Assuming wildly here) If Update 18 and Update 19 are 4 week updates, so they should land on 10th March and 7th April respectively. Meaning May 5th will be Update 20 (the one with the fan favourite track)- which is 2 days past the 20th Anniversary of Forza Motorsport, which came out on 2rd May 2005.

A 2.0 soft relaunch of the game would be sweet at this point.

Cars are not really the issue, the problem is still a proper career mode that make you want to spend time playing beyond the weekly 4 races. More than 1 year later this thing is still a skeleton with some organs but without any flesh.
In my opinion, what this game still needs is erm an actual game. What we have is sandbox of 500+ cars (most of which can't be used in the career mode) and a (certainly improved) bunch of tracks. We're not allowed to actually have a game to play, it has to be drip fed to us over 5 years. Or to put it another way, we're allowed 0.2 of a game per annum. Same issue applies to GT7 and others.

This is one thing that EA Codemasters have got right in EA WRC and Grid Legends before that. And Kunos with AC Evo (based on press releases) seem to understand this too.

The stupid thing is Turn 10 could EASILY give us a proper career mode AND still have room for the FOMO stuff. Anyone over the age of 3 can come up with 200+ series when you have 500+ cars to play with.

I think your timetable will be spot on. Perfect timing would be a trailer + blogpost on the anniversary Friday 2nd May with the update released on Monday 5th May.

Also, remember @Scaff keep an eye on this thread... ;)
