Ran into something I thought I didnt experience before in this game surprisingly, I must have just ignored it during the previous 963 event. I chose the cadillac for the lmdh event and immediately it looked and felt like steering in driver cockpit view was not 1:1 with my wheel. I was doing almost hand over hand in the hairpins while on screen the wheel input was barely reaching 90 degrees.

I had a similar problem once before where the steering input was not 1:1 because the steering filter setting was accidentally turned on, but not the case this time. I did more testing in free play and realized the lmdh cars all seem to stop visually moving the wheel in cockpit earlier than other cars, it reminds me of old forza honestly, just a bit passed 90 degrees in either direction. I don't remember seeing other cars like LMP or open wheelers in the game doing this but I'm sure they exist, I just have not tested every car available or maybe I was able to ignore it before.

Based on telemetry the cars do allow more steering angle even though the wheel/hands physically stop moving. so while realistically the cars are probably set up to only need that much steering input to get good steering angle for rotation, in game it is still allowing more input even though visually the wheel stops moving, a bit jarring.

I found the easiest solution is to reduce the steering lock input % per car in the tuning menu, this at least lets it be a one and done solution without effecting the steering on other cars, but only once you guess the correct %. I found someone on reddit suggesting 50% for the cadillac, but to me 60% potentially feels more correct? Neither feel perfect but both improve over 100% for the lmdh cars. A better solution would probably be to actually reduce the steering angle on the settings of my wheel so that I cant push past the stop point, but this would take just about as much guess work/trial and error to get the setting right, and will annoyingly have to be adjusted every time I switch between using one of the lmdh cars and another type, and I often jump between events rather than knock all the races from one event out in a row.

Not sure if anyone else has run into this, and if there is something else I may be missing? When everything is working the immersion I get while driving this game is amazing, but little stuff like this can really pull me out of it.
I think it was mentioned earlier in this thread, but I'm sure I saw that rough ratios for 1:1 steering are:

Road car - 100%
GT2/3 - 85-90%
Vintage race cars (whether F1/LM) - 80%
GT1/LMP (any age) - 75-80%
F1 (1970 onwards) - 60%

This will make the cars a bit twitchy, but much more responsive. F1 cars handle a lot better.
I can kick myself for not thinking of this right from the beginning of the game. I usually always check to see if there is an adjustment to either steering lock or steering ratio in a game if I'm having trouble but for some reason I never checked it in Forza Motorsport.

So I went in and tried some adjustments using @DG_Silva suggestions and I do wonder if it could be brand of wheel specific. Because for my Fanatec CSL DD I tried GT2/3 at 90% and the wheel on screen was turning a lot more than my physical wheel was. But back at 100% it's pretty close to 1:1 and the car is easier to drive.

I tried the Lamborghini SC63 at 75% but again the onscreen wheel was out of sync with my turning of the wheel. 80% though puts it very close to 1:1 and improves the handling. It could probably stand another % point or two up but I'll mess around with it later.

But adjusting the '86 Lotus 98T to 60% helped it tremendously. All of those type cars I have are very lose handling so I need to try and fix them.

Usually on a Wednesday night I can complete the 4 races of the featured challenge and 3 of the open series in about 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Tonight it took me 4 hours just to complete the featured challenge and the D open series.

This was one of the worst AI sessions I've ever seen. The bashing and the brake checking were just on another level even more than usual. I think I had at least 8 or 9 restarts at Daytona. Every single time at the kink between the International horseshoe and the Western horseshoe, if you're within a couple of car lengths, the car in front is going to jam on it's brakes. Turn 6 and in the middle of the LeMans chicane are two other places they are going to almost come to a stop. If you try to swerve around them you just run off track or spin out. Watkins Glen was fairly decent, only a couple of restarts there. But Indianapolis and Road Atlanta were just as bad as Daytona. To be fair I did hurt myself at Road Atlanta by spinning the car out at Turn 7 three times including once on the last lap. That has to be the number 1 corner where I spin out prototypes.

Now to the SC63. I would rate the BMW ahead of it. The Lamborghini has difficulty tuning at low speeds and the gearing is strange. 2nd gear turns in other prototypes are 3rd or even 4th in the Lambo. But it does seem like Turn 10 learned their lesson from the Cadillac V Series as each LMDh introduced since then has been much better.

One positive thing that happened was that final Daytona race. Coming into Speedway turn 4 I was right on the tail of the leader and got beside them coming out of 4. The leaderboard was flickering us back and forth it was that close. I think we touched just before the line but it was one of the closest races I've had.

That's why I keep the Rewind option on, so you don't have restart the race each time.

Would be nice to get a new LMP3.

FM 2023 is so good.

I like it too. I like the racing moreso that the other similar game on a different platform.
At least when the AI doesn't rail the brakes in front of me on a corner that doesn't need any braking at all. 😂
Good to hear you're having fun.
Me having played the other game that's on the other platform, I will always find it strange that the side activities are much better/actually fun than the main thing, will never understand how that's the case. Still had a good time with it, just done/bored with it after grinding and buying cars you couldn't truly efficiently race was all I was doing on it in the last 150+ hours I put on it, that and the races were usually boring outside the grind stuff to anyways.

Hearing all the negative discourse around FM 2023 since launch and before I brought it though, I thought I was going to be disappointed due to all the reception and my experience not being stellar with FM7 too didn't help my mixed feelings on FM 2023 either, while the Builder's Cup is lacking (I really hope they do end up putting all the limited time events in the Cup), the racing is still good usually, the driving model is much improved and enjoyable, the car selection is amazing (and I'm not intentionally held back to drive anything legendary/iconic, I'm not a little kid, let me drive a McLaren F1 and a Ferrari GTO 250 at anytime with no super high prices and no limited time thing to worry about dammit lol, even a C1 Corvette being hard to obtain JUST TO DRIVE in that other game is insane 😭) and even the track selection is pretty good (Not PC2/AMS2 spoiled kind of good in track selection, but I'm happy what's here still)

My thoughts are it's a solid racer today in the near 20 hours I put on it so far and will continue to feel that way after I get on again soon. I say if anyone says they tried this game for a few hours and say they didn't enjoy anything from those few hours at all, they're being dishonest is all I have to say.

Feels weird to me that this game came out in 2023, still feels early in its life yet completely dead.

I've never liked the continuous service system that all of modern games have nowadays, they only work when the game is a bonafide hit I feel, otherwise the devs are just putting in labour towards a game that was in this case DOA, rather than putting it towards a fresh start. Fresh coats of paint only so much.

It's sad, because until FM6 I was all on board, thought it was fantastic, and after FM7, I thought maybe they could bring it back.

It's just so user unfriendly. The menus are terrible and counterintuitive. The upgrade screens are and dark and stiff, you can't look around your car while making visual changes, but it doesn't matter anyway because the environment is darkly lit you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. The paint menu are options are poor, especially when compared with FH. Doesn't make sense to me why there isn't more collaboration between the developers. Other than the cars, so much doesn't translate between the games. Often well received featured just completely lost to the other franchise.

Saddest part to me is that the game is just completely devoid of any character, personality or atmosphere. The home space is a sad grey garage, and the menu is 'modern', yet so dull.

It's not all negative, the driving experience is far and away the best of any Forza, do enjoy just picking up the game to drive. Graphically they've made improvements from release as well, some tracks that look poor in previous games looking fantastic now (Bathurst for eg).

But unfortunately the game just feels dead and hollow, and knowing they're in for the long haul, actually doesn't give me hope for the franchise.

Don't expect too much guys. It will probably be monza
I'd race Monza more than I would race Fujimi Kaido. I'm not about to lie and claim that Monza is a favorite of mine, its just higher on my desireability list than Fujimi.

If Turn 10 wanted to give me a long drive, I'd rather have FM3's Rally di Positano.

I am looking at 1,200 hours spent with FM23, and I understand some areas where the game feels like it's missing something, but I still enjoy playing it. For me I make my own fun using free play, especially when the monthly activity falls short of hitting the right note. I just take what I liked in the career races and re-construct it, but with the parameters I was looking for... (I remake the same events but make the races longer.). Sure, it's some lonely kid with no friends' stuff, but that's due mostly to me having a schedule that has me at work, where most local (by way of internet ping) players are at home. And the "jump in" aspect of public multiplayer is something I just cannot get into. I would like to know that the people on the other end of the internet, are showing some sportsmanship and not trying to make an "example" out of the guy in the grey Mustang. (Replace the word 'example' with more colorful language. It'll make better sense.)

If somethings were simply made as options, like being able to set how many laps you want to run... That would be a major boost for the "Career" side of things. Then the 3 or 4 races that Turn 10 expects to occupy our time for a week, will actually do so, without the need make up for it in free play. But for now, FM23 is my DIY racing experience. I do have access to bonified better titles, but for some reason, FM23 is easier to fall into. Even with it's issues.

Of the FM games I've played, FM4 had the strongest personality, thanks to Autovista with the (almost) unfiltered opinions of one Jeremy Clark and its single player format. FM5 was a graphical leap but at the expense of content, some of which they tried to sell us back in car packs when it was free on FM4, and that started to sour our opinion.

FM6 was a return to form and has the classiest presentation of all, almost GT-like in some respects: menus, music, etc. it just felt right... and it's at this point where they should have started developing things "from the ground up" instead of wasting time with FM7, IMO.

But I've played this FM from the beginning and I'm close to 1,000 hours of play, so I've been through the initial disappointment and seen the lows but also the steady improvements over time, and I think it has a lot of yet untapped potential, and I hope they keep at it.

I don't agree with it lacking "Character", "Personality", and "Atmosphere"

The menus look fine and work and don't need to have visual bloat to appease my eyes and stimulate my brain as if my attention span loses itself after 10 seconds when I'm not getting something flashed at me, last I checked for me, FM7 was the one that I feel is the one that truly has no character, personality, and atmosphere, despite having more of everything compared to FM2023.

For me, FM2023 is one of those cases where less is more, and I stand by that. I don't want a game pretending to be more or telling me it's much more than what it actually is, I want a game telling me what it really is and that's what FM2023 does, and what it is, is a racer that provides solid racing for the most part, has a really great, with a no bloat car selection really, and having a track selection that gives arguably almost every car purpose I would say, that is what I would argue is a game with character, personality, and atmosphere.
