Customization, handling, presentation, AI, damage, multiplayer: Forza hits the bull's-eye time after time. Although it doesn't have quite the bewildering range of cars as Gran Turismo 4, Forza is its equal in gameplay, its superior in AI, and adds the online play GT4 lacked. In gaming, like in business, innovators rarely dominate the market they create for long, and Sony's got some catching up to do.

BTW on IGN INSIDER is new video Forza Motorsport vs Gran Turismo 4 vol 2 Nurburging.. I watched this video few minutes ago and I've shocked!!!!!
FORZA WINS :)

great opinion, ill decide what i like

judging from the video, forza has GT4 nailed when it comes to graphics and car sounds, but the track mapping seems a bit off.

the straights seem longer and the road is a fair bit too wide in some spots. but damn it's impressive!

Well I'll pick mine up tomarrow on the way home from work...or I might just go out on my lunch hour so I can at least look at the instruction booklet during my staff meeting.

Nurbs in Forza isn't bad, but it just doesn't have that driving-over-the-edge feeling thats in GT4, it feels too slow and not really challenging at all.

Because that's how you say it? It's Italian and from the little Italian I know that is how you would say it.

Wow I'm pretty fast, I just scored a 30th place lap time on the Xbox Live time board. Pacific Shipyard 2 with a Celica APR.

I´m pretty sure the pronounce is Forza. If it was Forzza, with two z´s, then you would say Fort-za. You know, like pizza.

And the word also means power, which in this case seems better than "it forces".

People say Peet za with out even trying :), it just comes out naturally. But now i understand with the 2 z's thing.

Just picked it up today. It takes the fight to the GT series something fierce. But, it doesn't match GT's "feel". The cars are nicely weighted and respond as you'd expect, but it feels "assisted" even with all the driver assists turned off. The Civic I started with will toss it's 455 out with mild breaking and a flick of the wheel. GT has it beat in actual gameplay by a noticeable margin, which isn't a bad thing, this is Microsoft's first sim racing effort, while GT is in it's, what, sixth iteration? 👍

It has everything GT doesn't, Porsche, Ferrari, A well-done online portion and car customization. The entire experience very user-friendly and infinitely accessible. 👍

The AI positively embarasses GT4's though (which isn't saying a whole lot), your opponents feel like opponents, they're aware of your presence, and more importantly, they're aware that you want to beat them. Very nice. 👍

Graphically, Forza falters. It's not ugly, but it's definitely not pretty. I was expecting A WHOLE LOT MORE from the Gatesbox. A lot more. 👎 👎

The cars sound great, though the soundtrack is almost as head-scratchingly annoying as GT4's. 👍

The customization is VERY nicely done. In the previews and the demo it came off as kinda "Fast and Furious" but there are lots of options, so it really boils down to personal taste. 👍

Overally, Forza is an extremely commendable first attempt, and what it lacks in "feel" it actually, genuinely makes up for in it's other areas and features. Not bad at all, but not GT... :P

I think I enjoy driving in Forza more then in GT though, the controls feel better to me. But I just like the Xbox more then the PS2, since the Xbox pretty much owns the PS2 in every way. To bad the Forza online sucks for the time being.

hi all im noob at this page i got here by searching drift in game im a maniac at drift
all i can say is forza is better then gt4 BUT gt4 have more tracks and cars and the diference is that forza is more realist period no way gt beats it but theres the name thing gt have won a respect i only have a x-Box but i started on a ps1 and on a gt1 so i can say im a fan of gt ill just devour all the racing games and i think that forza gives a lot more figth then the gt so resuming

Forza its better (not that it have a huge diference but the textures Kick ass)
GT4 its near the rear (its the name and i think that the damage isnt that good as if played the demo vers and it suck it far from real so its a good game to and there's the rally :P)

nice review!

I owned both games
If purely looking at the graphics, I still think GT4 is better than Forza. But Forza is an online enable game and can modified the outlook of the cars, so I will say Forza is a better 'game'. But GT4 is a better 'simulator'.
However it's so much fun to play online, I am already a huge fan of PGR2, but the only think i complained about PGR2 was, can't modify the cars. And Forza not only can modify, it can even install different body kit and make the car one of a kind, it's really great.
And the playability of Forza will be much higher than GT4, I finished most races of GT4, and now other than buying different car and take a spin and then take some snap from photomode, nothing more to play. And the bad part is I owned Japanese version of GT4 which can't even have garage battle :( .
Since I haven't play any PC online racing game before, so I will say Forza is one of the best racing game right now.

Oh, one more thing to add is, Forza's damage system, that's pretty good, you have to pay if you damage your car's body/engine. That's what i really like to see, especially when playing online, where I hate others slams right behind me!

GT4 > FORZA in
Graphics: GT4 takes the cake in this one, both artistically and technicaly. sure, forza have a much higher polygon counts, but the map still looks bland and fake. GT4's photo-realistic tracks puts forza's to shame. Car models are the same, while the cars are shiny and nice looking, it still doesn't look as good as GT4's. The decals on the car are either fuzzy or have bad aliasing problems when seen in replays. higher poly counts doesn't mean a game will look better.
Car Engine Sounds: The car's engine noise in forza is just bland, the sound of all the car in cockpit view is very similar. GT4 takes this one by a huge margin.
Replays: Forza's replay sucks, the camera is limited and the replay just doen't look as good. Bloom lighting is used, but to cover up the ugly graphics rather than to accentuate the game.

FORZA > GT4 in
Soundtrack: simply because you can customized your own tracks.
Online Play: great online play, the career intergration with online is a great touch.
Car damage: although some damage effects looks somewhat unrealistic, but it does affect the car's performance, which is fun.
Car Customization: nice body kits and nice decal systems, even though the decals can look horrible in replays.
A.I. : I don't think anyone is suprised by this, the A.I. is active and responsive. Polyphony could use a lesson in this area.
Others things like the # of cars and tracks are obvious so i wont compare those.

A great racing game no doubt, but forza is still in second place after GT4, everything about this game is good, but not great. If Forza would of released before GT4, then it would have been a great game. Because it follows such a heavy hitter, the game just fall short of greatness.

I absolutely love this game. And in a lot of ways it has sooo much more replay value that GT4. Online racing, leaderboard automatically updates the person with the best racing results and their ghost. You can also download someones car settings online too and their ghost.
Im not sure if anyone mentioned yet that you can put over 100 different vinyls on your car!!! You could easily make your car look like anything you wanted. You can stretch, rotate, turn move vinyls ANYWHERE on your car besides the windows. You can get bigger wheels and tires too.
I agree GT4 has better graphics but Forza has better physics and AI which makes the game a better racing game.
The sound in the game so far hasnt impressed me at all. I do like the game play and how everything you do is saved online in the scoreboard. Here are some of my results so far in the autocross events. Forza leaderboard results for Camaroboy69
I really like the autocross events and the hill climbs that are similar to Kaido Battle.

I think you meant 100 vinyls/decals on EACH SIDE of the car (top, front, left side, right side, back) :D I just got the game last night, truly amazing.

Yeah I forgot to point that out. Thanks for correcting that. So actually you can put over 500 vinyls on your car. :sly:

I agree GT4 has better graphics but Forza has better physics and AI which makes the game a better racing game for me .

I still like the range of vehicals to "drive" plus rally racing is so much fun with DFP. Both games are so unalike(from what I read) we might as well toss burnmout 3 into the mix and that game rates higher than GT4 and Forza.

I can see myslelf putting a LOT of hours into this game. It just seems to have sooo much more replay value than GT4. Instead of having to post your times and game saves on this site for races. You just turn your x-box on and it tells you who has the best time. Then you can save their vehicle settings and their ghost. I am just sooo impressed. You can also race your entire career mode online against other real life players. That is just sick!!! There is enough to keep you busy and competitive against REAL life people in Forza to last basically forever. Now THAT is replay value.
