And in addition to that pink Vitz, a yellow Evo? :sly:
I called it.

lol. literally nothing is reminiscent of the first Gran Turismo besides the "please enter your name". I guess maybe I was reading it wrong the whole time - it's "my first GT - as in, this IS my first GT". The whole time I thought it was intended to be a demo with a classic GT theme.
GT1 only let you use three digits for new records, not full names. iirc. That was first in GT2.
It looks really cool and if you’re not a big racing/car fan I bet you’d give this a go. I think my young son would prefer this to GT7
I think I’ll let my oldest son use this one to get better and learn to drive without aids as well. He turned 6 today, and I learned without aids (and manual gears within a few weeks) when I was his age, so I think he needs to follow. At least learn to drive without auto brake.
So a Gran Turismo 7 "Prologue". It's free i think. But What a waste of time by PD. God.
Demo. Where do you get prologue from? It’s been a demo all along.

I'm a bit perplexed at how much of the trailer is taken up with Music Rally - a feature that's only been in the latest iteration of the game, and hence it is about as un-nostalgic for the GT series as it gets. Plus, I hate Music Rally with a passion. The music selection is... interesting - a bold choice if it's intended to appeal to a younger audience, and IMO it doesn't reflect the GT series at all.

As far as a free demo goes, however, it's OK - though again the car selection could be better... though I guess they are going for a 'GT1' vibe. Maybe "My Next Gran Turismo" will have some JGTCs or race cars?

Looks like a neat and simplified way to get younger kids into racing. I was 11 when GT2 released and although I've got great memories, all the tuning and complexities of the game were still a bit over my head. A beat the game a couple times over but still never experienced all the RMs and never understood tuning back then. Simplifying the game for kids in the single digits would be a good idea.

We might think it's goofy but to a kid with no context the music might be fun. I also haven't touched it since I first got the game but I've always been the type to turn off all music and concentrate on the racing like some sort of robot. Overall I think the "retro" concept they're on about is really just the more simplistic design of the game. GT7's UI operates like spaghetti compared to older games.

I do wonder if sim-style driving games on consoles are demographically doomed... It seems all the younger kids go through their Cars and Hot Wheels and/or Lego phases, so the simpler the games are, the better. Then, if they play driving games at all, they will probably do it in GTA Online, a myriad of mobile games, or the open world games (Horizon, NFS, The Crew).

Disclaimer: If it would have released on PC, which now I'm convinced will never happen, it wouldn't have been my first Gran Turismo.

The only four thoughts going through my head as I watched the trailer were:

"...ok?"

"...ok."

"Where's the nostalgia?"

"God the music's annoying"

I love how PD flagrantly showcased their horrible AI driving on the back straight of Deep Forest. Like... I thought a trailer is supposed to make me want a game.
To me the Nostalgia is there - menus, ui and visuals are a nice combination of different GT eras wrapped in GT1 colors. Game has all sides of gran turismo apart from serious racing. The music is clearly for the trailer - I expect classic or remixed GT tunes in game.
I think the same. Why Kyoto Driving Park is in this demo and High Speed Ring not?
Kyoto from Japan, Deep Forest from Europe and Trial Mountain from US - very simple logic.

This smells a lot like Sony "forcing" PD to make this due to PS 30th anniversary, rather than any actual incentive regarding GT7 (which doesn't make much sense anyway given the release happened almost 3 years ago).

It's funny though how people always hype themselves up to great lengths over nothing.
Nothing unexpected happened. It's just a demo.
Whether or not Sony force it on PD, and most likely it was, but PD is definitely consenting.

This Demo makes very much sense and a very good move, contrarily to what some/ most of you are saying.

This is a very good move that actually benefits all of us, more for others than for any of us here, but still very positive.

1) potential new comers to the Sony PS eco system
2) new GT fans
3) future material for us to enjoy

you all should be remember and see this effort as a renewed commitment by PD and Kaz to deliver a fun polish easy access product/games for all to enjoy: 7 to 77.
all the while teaching us proper way to race, proper race craft, clean and sportmanship...

This is a welcome change from everything else on the market.

I for one, hate all the drive to "destroy everything" in the game industry. (GTA: steal, cheat, kill, run over everything, cut corner, FPS, Destruction Derby etc etc etc...)
Why can't we encourage clean "olympian" competition with good spormanship ?!
GT, PD and Kaz seems to be the only one (or the rare ones) to welcome ALL/everyone to this sort of game.

in the Demo trailer, i only see PD encouraging players to drive cleanly, with proper driving skills...
i dont like most other games pushing everyone and driving gamers to the bottom...

it's no wonder why "regular" people and non gamers see games as a bad thing...

I want Games to be seen as a good thing for society, to be beneficial, and i think GT does that compare to everything else.

GT doesn't have the bad game connotation, or at least is trying its darnest to differentiate it from all the "bad" brain rot games out there...

i think you all are way under-estimating the importance of this DEMO. this is not just a simple regular demo.

This DEMO is a whole mindset and gaming philosophy reset, a subtle message, and being renewed by Kaz and the PD team.

To see Kaz behind the keyboard and playing Moon over the Castle, shows to me that he wants all of us to be well rounded individuals, not just gamers.
This is just a game, but a game that want to incite you to rethink your background and knowledge... for all of us to open up to new and better things out there... use the game as a stepping stone:

Dont limit yourself...

I think i am getting too wordy and viby...

Given the car roster they needed a small, slower track suitable for the Copen/Jimny/DS/Volvo.

Deep Forest and Trial Mountain are both far too fast for them, and High Speed Ring would have been even more extreme in that regard.

In arcade mode - in GT1's GT/Simulation mode you could use full names.
I played GT1 not long ago and you’ll have to excuse me for missing it, I’m pretty sure I’ve only seen the three digit record screen. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing against it, I just say I missed it. 🤔

Suspicious Futurama GIF

you think people will buy a PS to try GT7 demo ???
fair question....

Demo is a net cast out to the open ocean in hope to catch other gamers who wouldn't have bought GT7 without first trying it...

and in hope that people who play together at their friends' house, who have the Demo, can warm up to it, and buy it...

if someone buys the PS5 for another games, but sees a GT Demo, they could give it a try and if they like it will purchase GT7 or subsequent games...

it's a domino or butterfly effect, not necessarily an immediate cause and effect thing...

my parents bought me the PSone and GT2 because i have been nagging them after i had missed the PS1 for years and missing out GT1, so yeah, there could be people like i was, buying a console just for a game....

i bought the PS2 because of GT4
i bought the PS3 because of GT5 Prologue, because of GT5 and because of GT6
i bought the PS4 because of GTSport
i bought the PS5 because of GT7

i play 95% of my time on GT games, barely 5% for everything that i have bought, seeing other games only as side quests...

my main quest is GT.

Thats why I bought a 60GB PS3 when it came out.
I’m not even gonna say out loud what I did.

I bought a 40GB PS3 GT5P bundle. Then upgraded to a 120GB PS3 slim (which I upgraded to 1TB myself) when GT5 released.

Yes they have our money, but i'm sure many players will be cautious buying GT8 after being disappointed with GT7.

I highly doubt that. Everyone who is a fan of the racing/driving genre, if they have a Playstation, is going to buy Gran Turismo games - even if they aren’t very good.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Free “My First Gran Turismo” Demo Coming Later This Year

A special free Gran Turismo demo is set for launch later this year, as Sony gears up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation console...
Demo is always a good idea for those unsure about purchasing.

BUT this is about the worst trailer I can imagine. Featuring music rally, really? GT would have died as an infant if PD added nonsense features like that in its early life. SMH

So don't play it

Yeah I brainfarted on that. I was thinking GT3. I was just a bit disappointed I suppose, to not see more of a classic vibe.

I suppose there's a bit of a retro vibe with the menu element positioning but I was hoping for more given they said it would evoke the nostalgia of the early games.

Figured they'd go a decent way with maybe an adjusted HUD and menu style beyond the MFGT style which doesn't seem hugely nostalgic. But it is closer.

I was just expecting too much though. Especially for a demo that's 2 and a half years in. It's cool still, I like the throwback elements that are there and think it's a good thing overall.

Can someone show me the retro UI because I'm not seeing it.
I’d also like to see how that car list are the most popular in the franchise. It’s cool the 930 Turbo, DS and E30 SE are in the demo, but I’d be surprised if that TT(from GT2?) that MINI(GT5) and that Golf(GT Sport) registered as popular cars in their respective debuts. The Cappuccino seems more popular than the Copen as well.

Really wish we could see certain data.

This mini game comes two years late. It should have been released at the end of GTsport. However, 12Gb I have space.
you all are so short sighted.... this demo is not so much for GT7, but for the future of GT series and showing how things are as of today... where it could go from here without showing anything...

you have to extrapolate and trust the process...

did anyone of us imagine or think much about how things would be when we first played GT1 or GT2, or whichever GT you started with ? Even Kaz probably didn't know, but if he did, he is 100 steps ahead of us...

This is a demo to mark a milestone, waypoint from which new path will be traced...

if you are not seeing it, then you will never see it...

the Demo is not so much about things that you can see, but rather it is for things that you dont see and can be...

dont try to understand or read too much into it, but just trust that we are still on track... the important message here is that the train tracks of the hype train still have ways to go, it is not ending, unlike Forza where it is going no where but downhill LOL

I see this Demo as a positive thing... you all are so negative with your limited understanding....

The marketing for GT7 said it was going back to the roots with simulation mode and look where we are now. I won't believe it until I see it. You could argue it's not coming from Kaz's mouth directly but "Simulation mode" was text flashed up in the reveal trailer so he likely approved that.
