Frozen: the most overrated movie ever

My review from the what movies have you seen thread.

Frozen 👍👍

Pretty much nailed it. There was a moment, at the end, where I had just a glimer that this movie would be more than just really good. There was a glimmer there, only a few seconds, where I thought this movie could be perhaps if not the best kid's movie ever made, among the very best. But that glimmer faded quickly and Frozen sank down to just a solid entry in the category. There are moments when this movie really elevates above standard kids' fare. One is the opening background sequence, another is the now-famous "Let it Go" sequence, where you get to see character transformation explored visually and poetically.

There was a moment at the end, when the sister sacrifices herself and becomes a statue where I thought... wow if they end it this way this movie is officially awesome. The "frozen" title would take on a whole new meaning - referring to the dead sister at the end. It would be a fantastically clean ending in a way that doesn't pander to kids. I knew, of course, that there was absolutely no way Disney would do that. But I have to admit I was hoping - it was a moment where I saw the movie's full potential and I was very impressed.

Edit 2:

You had me at "fractal".

I'm not going to say that Frozen was better than... whatever Disney movie you want to talk about. But in order to be over rated I feel like it needs to not be nearly so solid. For a movie that came within moments of being the greatest children's movie ever made, I'm not sure that it's possible to be the most over rated movie.

Personally, I haven't seen it, nor do I intend to see it, mainly because its just one of those movies that stupid Tumblr and 'maymay' site users just verbally masturbate over and treat as some kind of demi-god for no discernible reason. Other examples are stuff like the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series' (before I get flamed, I'm deriding the crazy fans who think its 'cute' or ironic to post about them as if it was their own life every day). They almost certainly only do it just to fit in with the whole 'geeks are cool nao' subculture that seems to have evolved.

It's not that I hate popular stuff, its just I hate how people religiously follow and constantly talk (or post) about TV shows and movies that have a following as if it makes them unique and somehow interesting to talk to. I'm all for discussing stuff you like, but linking every possible thing and/or quoting Harry Potter/Hunger Games/Sherlock/Frozen/whatever in stuff that has nothing to do with it just seems like they're doing it in the vain hope to be seen as a 'nerd' or embracing their geekier habits just to seem quirky. And then when you do watch one of these examples, you get derided for not being a hardcore fan. Its ridiculous.

Hell, if I acted and talked about movies like this at my age like these 'fandoms' do today, I can guarantee people would find it just plain pathetic and would be ridiculed endlessly.

I've watched nearly every Disney movie and Frozen is mediocre at best. Animation is top notch but that's about the only thing that isn't overrated. Plot is thin and convoluted, love story was too 'forced' and the songs were decent, but nowhere near Grammy worthy.

Frozen makes me sleepy. When I saw it in my school, I was like saying this to one of my classmates, "Hey, wake me up when the movie is over." The one thing I hate so much about this movie is the song "Let it go".

Gravity is the biggest pile of crap ever!
Seriously, the only thing that movies has going for it, is that it looks good. And seeing as most movies look really good these days, that's not saying a lot.

My goodness, you guys need to watch some bad movies. Gravity and Frozen are a couple of the better movie examples to come along in quite a while. You need to take a step back.

And what's with the My Little Pony guys hating? Do you guys not realize that that cartoon is way not worth the amount of energy put into loving it? Talk about over rated, I have no idea why that standard kids junk has so much popularity - and waaaay out of its demographic too.

The key here is that they are overrated.
People build up so much hype that it's a total let down when you go to see it.

And I actually stopped watching it at the beginning of the year since it went to total crap. (Plus those reasons that you said.)

I do like my avatar though. :D

lol, Gravity is alright; it's pretty, it's entertaining but overall it's 'okay'.
That's 'okay' said in the most monotonous mediocre way.
Try Moon or Love.

I really enjoyed Gravity, like the only movie worthy of watching on theatres (and yeah, I got a thing for Alfonso Cuaron, Children of Men and all that).

Gravity had something really special going for it (apart from being ultimate 3D movie and tracking shots) and hence why it got the hype it got, Frozen had ... woman not being dependant on men, truly shocking for a Disney movie but so overdone by the point it got out of an "special" or shocking treatment.

Is not bad, just ... really average.

My five year old son and I were dragged to see this by my girlfriend and her mother....

I survived it thanks to the overpriced beer at the theater. My little guy hated it and, when it was over, said, "I told you we should have saw The Nut Job".

I'm suprised I didn't see this thread. I haven't seen Frozen yet but I'm already irritated by the hype surrounding it. Just from the bits I have seen and read it looks utterly average. How on earth can this be the best Disney film in history? The problem here is that people go and see what the media tell them to see.

Also its basically a rip off of Tangled which is probably my favourite modern Disney movie which makes my dislike for it even stronger. Its song 'I See The Light' is a billion times better than 'Let It Go' and although it was nominated for Best Song at the Oscars sadly it didn't win.

You see, Tangled is the only Disney movie I couldn't get past the first ten minutes of. It's that Hannah Montana style soundtrack that grates me.

Because the idea of an actual story arch is a foreign subject to some after reading what they consider are good movies & what they consider bad. Hope none of them ever watch Pulp Ficton, Momento, or The Big Lebowski. They might get lost in a plot that doesn't revolved around simplistic monologue & little action.

Had to laugh at your comment about the MLP guys calling something else overrated. Spot on.

I was all set to hate the movie but I ended up loving it.

The songs seemed sub-par ( expected ) but the "world" and the characters just worked.

Sure it's overrated but "most overrated movie ever" not even close. It's a kids / Disney film, sure it wasn't disneys best story but it was far from bad. I would watch it again.

I could name many more "good" or meh movies that are even more overrated.
