I use both, but I know my thumb is just bigger than an inch and my foot is a foot long, and since I'm 6', I'm 2 meters high. Doesn't work out as nice in cm.

Thank you. Nobody else I know remembers these. I don't find it that difficult.

Imperial may be quirky, but it's not impossible to understand. Curiously, 1 chain = 1 cricket pitch. Which means you can work out the scale of an overhead photograph if there is a cricket pitch in it.
