Funny/Strange News Stories

Not exactly a news story, but zero road safety sounds like a pretty bad vision if you ask me.

That doesn't look particularly safe, all those cars are on the wrong side of the road.

Don’t worry, I’m sure these roads have a negative speed limit, so the cars are probably just reversing.

(Theoretical question: if you had a negative speed limit, would it be speeding if you stopped your car?)

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, and we'll all stay free.

When my dad was in the Royal Air Force in the forties and fifties his Christian faith was irretrievably shaken by a mass church service in which forces chaplains blessed two armed bombers and a roomful of heavy artillery and assault weapons, so I guess this is nothing new.

MIT journal site runs a story about how research proves hipsters all look the same.
Man contacts site, furious that site has used an image of him to illustrate the story and accusing them of slander for calling him a hipster.
Site contacts stock image provider, finds model in image is in fact a different person and man had mistaken himself for the model.
QED.

It looks like they mean "fornication" as in extra-marital sex which may explain why some uptight Utahns aren't in favour of the bill.

This was the only site carrying the story I could find which wasn't blocked in Europe:

https://kutv.com/news/local/sex-for-unmarried-in-utah-may-no-soon-be-legalized

SALT LAKE CITY — (KUTV) — With the stroke of a pen, sex for the unmarried in the Beehive State could be legalized.

A bill changing the criminal code in Utah may soon remove fornication as a class B misdemeanor.

Sen. Karen Mayne is the chief sponsor, while Rep. Ray Paul is the sponsor in the state's House. It has been voted on and passed by both bodies, meaning it is only awaiting a signature by Gov. Gary Herbert.

If it becomes law, it will remove the fornication clause from Utah's criminal code. It currently reads:

(1)Any unmarried person who shall voluntarily engage in sexual intercourse with another is guilty of fornication.
(2)Fornication is a class B misdemeanor.
The current law is part of Chapter 7 Offenses Against the Family, meaning those found guilty are punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of $1,000. The law isn't pursued by police or prosecuted and is unenforceable.

The bill changes other parts of the criminal code as well including:

Modifies criminal offenses and penalties relating to clandestine drug labs
Modifies criminal offenses and penalties relating to electronic harassment
Return of a marriage license to a county clerk
Defines terms
