Funny/Strange News Stories

I'm sorry if people got the wrong of the stick somehow with my post, I have absolutely no objection with her charity work, or going into schools to help with childhood literacy; I think it's a very worthy cause.

My comment was purely a remark on the fact that in today's society and the all-seeing eye of the internet, there is no getting away from your history.
Which is completely fair enough.

I think the sentiment from the members you quoted echoed my own thoughts. Which were that there was no shame in having worked in her previous field & that her previous work was not anything that should jeopardise any future career moves or charitable endeavours.

If they are doing it through choice and not forced to by circumstance or otherwise and they were paid a fair amount for their work then I would be fine with people I know being porn stars.

There's still the implication that somehow her former career was a Bad Thing, no?

Hmm, I wondered about the way you capitalised there. Then I read the blurb for the 24 minute long movie "A Bad Thing" - "Conservative attorney Frank Harrison's professional relationship with his young, ambitious assistant undergoes a troubling transformation after his assistant catches him in a very compromising situation". But alas, if there was a porno pun implied, that one wasn't it.

I'm sorry if that was how it was interpreted, but no implication intended, I promise. She did what she wanted/needed to do at the time, and it is not our place to judge her for it. She has now been able to change her career to one she must have wanted to do originally, and more power to her!

More to do with 1066 An All That, an excellent "history" of this sceptic isle :)

Earlier in the night, friends had encouraged him to unload the weapon as they knew he did not have a good understanding of how to operate the gun - which he wasn't licensed to carry.

I really feel like no one got an award there. The guy with the shotgun didn't listen to his friends, and the poor victim knowingly stood in front of a loaded weapon being handled by a gun-dumb guy. Just a perfect storm of stupidity.

Question is who owns the shotgun and who the hell gave it to him loaded with ammo, let alone disabled the safety(if shotguns have a safety)
Plus he should be charged with murder not manslaughter.

Aiming a loaded gun at someone shows intent to kill even if it was for a photo.

Well, he did commit the cardinal sin of feeding the trolls. :boggled:
He called a spade a spade. At worst, his honesty beat out his tact, but there aren't enough athletes who call out drug cheats. The Chinese reaction has been extreme to say the least; Yang might be a national hero, but he was caught using performance enhancing drugs, which isn't excusable. Anyone who tests positive should be banned from the next Olympics, even if there are years to go until they happen.

And to make matters worse for Yang, Horton has to wear really strong glasses outside the pool (and prescription glasses in it) because he's almost legally blind. So outside the pool he looks like Clark Kent, and inside the pool he looks like Superman.

Oh, PETA, this is why people cannot take you seriously.

They want to rename Eggs and Bacon Bay in Tasmania with a "vegan alternative", apparently to appreciate a healthier lifestyle.

While we're at it, why don't we get feminists to rename Indented Head in Victoria, because the annual Miss Indented Head competition is just plain unflattering.

Floods destroying homes isn't funny but...

Louisiana floods destroy home of Christian leader who says God sends natural disasters to punish gay people

“This is a flood, I would have to say, of near biblical proportions,” he said.

Tony Perkins then revised his statement, mentioning how the Homosexual Weather Machine* caused the flooding, since they hate God, Family, and trolling lobbyists. Clearly, it had nothing to do with a hitherto trouble-free area of the nation which has never seen flooding before and is conveniently located many thousands of feet above sea level in an arid climate.

....You know, I'm not quite sure about this.

"Moscow airport shop sells model Kalashnikov guns", BBC.

It's apparently a souvenir shop, selling mercs related to the famed AK47 maker.

Reminds me of that dealership in Texas that was giving away free AK47's with each truck purchase.

....Which dealership was doing something so.... unpatriotic? I mean, a pick-up ownership is as American as an apple pie yet the fools were giving away a Russian firearm? Sacrilege, I say.
