Funny things RICErs say (radically immature car enthusiasts)

Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races :D

Which is why Formula cars smoke NASCAR cars to 100mph?

That quote is almost universally used by American car heads without much consideration for what it actually means.

Like I've said before, this thread just feels like a bunch of high school gossip of "he said this, can you believe he said that? How dumb can he be?" and it just looks a bit silly.
I don't think he's even heard of Lancia but I could be wrong. My grandma surprised me when she told me she knew of Alfa Romeo and actualy liked them.

That is because you could buy Alfas here back when she was probably in the market for a car.

Lol, it's no wonder an F1 car accelerates better, almost a third the weight.

That being said, at the same weight, the F1 engine would still be faster assuming the same level of power. (750-800 is roughly what a NASCAR and F1 engine make yes?

Same power, but having almost double the revs allows the F1 to run a much higher gear ratio for the same speed, allowing more power to actually be put on the ground.

An F1 car has 8 gears (Remember when there was just 6 gears?), and a NASCAR cars only has 4 gears.

Nascars now make nearly 900hp, more than a F1 car. But there many more factors to consider when comparing the acceleration of two different cars. Weight, power, gearing, tire compound, weight distribution...etc.

Obviously because comparing a 605kg car with a 1595kg car is totally relevant

And you've failed to grasp the point of my comment, which is how power and torque are utilized. You can make all the torque in the world and still have a slow car if it slow spinning diesel, or all lots of high end power and no real go (RX-8) because of gearing and wheels.

Basically, the quote is meaningless in how it is typically used, which is normally by V8 displacement nuts that don't care for other engine designs.

Its not a DSM that only applies to the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser.

I don't see how it can only be used on them; the Conquest is just a rebadged Mitsubishi Starion. Similarly, the Dodge Stealth is just a Mitsubishi 3000GT with some different panels. I've heard people online refer to Eclipses/Talons/Lasers, Starions/Conquests, 3000GTs/Stealths as DSMs.

As for a ricer story, I saw a YouTube comment from someone who was confused as to why the Nissan GT-R is badged and sold as a Nissan when Lotus helped with the chassis. I had to explain that just because Lotus helped with the development of one part of the car, it didn't mean the entire car was a Lotus. Then there was some stupid reply about how Silverado pick-ups use Isuzu engines but are still sold as Chevys. At that point, it just irritated me so much I left him to it. Not so much a 'ricer' story, yet still someone who doesn't know what he's talking about.

I normally try to just avoid replying to stuff like that. The thing that irked me was that he had written it really well, as if he was knowledgable on the industry yet refused to believe anything other than his own idea.

Oh, that remembers me of some people in my class who say that the Nissan GT-R is a car for cads/plebs (< don't know if I used this words right, used the translator dict.cc; what I want to say is 'Prolet' in German) while they say Porsche is extravagant like Königsegg/Pagani or something(don't get mw wrong, some Porsches are really nice cars, but every :censored:ing cad/pleb (again, as above) in Austria who has some money buys a used Porsche and thinks he is Schumacher/Alonso/Hamilton/Loeb/Dale Ernhard Jr. or whoever:grumpy:)

As seen on GT6 online

"F1 is boring. Not enough crashes unlike NASCAR."

So crashes make a racing series good...? Okay. Yeah, like a porno only being good for the plot ("Did you order a pizza?" *like rabbits*) racing is more than collisions, and NASCAR is only a bare boned Motorsport compared to... It's not the outlaws in the big blocks like it was- it's sponsors, regulations, special tracks etc. same as f1 with less technology... And corners.

"Yeah- but NASCAR needs more skill than any other series"

WEC, WRC- two examples of the test of man, machine and team.

"They're pointless."

Ugh. WEC has provided quite a lot of technology to road cars, stuff that keeps you and the planet safe. NASCAR has provided what exactly?

"Entertainment."

The WEC, more specifically the 24H Le Mans and Nurburgring, have a huge following actually. Not as large as NASCAR, yes, but infield NASCAR is less about the racing. It's a show with a little racing on the side- WEC is for the fans.

"Audi dominate it too much. Booooriiiiing"

LMP1, yes. But what about LMP2, GT-Pro, GT-Am and Garage 56? They're all still exciting- LMP1 is just the start of it really.

"Whatever. No Americans in Le Mans."

Wait... What?

"Lack of Americans in Le Mans"

2013. Viper. SRT.

"They're not American."

I despise you.

I've had similar conversations with my peers at school. If it ain't NASCAR or football, it "ain't a real sport".

Thankfully my friends only know NASCAR because either they saw it on GT5, Topgear or I posted something about it. They're pretty clueless motorwise

last year in November the day after we bought our firebird, it was still on a trailer and brought it to a car appraiser at his house. on his small street the first house, which had lots of cars including another firebird like the one we were bringing. according to the appraiser they got the firebird 8 months before and cant afford it. but that's not all. towards the end the guy got out in a Scion FRS and floored it past us then he hit a bump. the car jumped. i thought he was going to lose control. not really anything he said but the way he drove in the space he had on public roads was bad. (we had a ram dually towing the trailer which took a part on the road.)

Fartcannon flybys are the best.

One of the guys in my building is the spare parts manager for a dealership that specialises in imports. His job mostly involves filling out orders and keeping track of inventory. However, the radically immature car enthusiasts have found this out, but true to form, they don't understand what it is that he actually does, and so our building regularly gets idiots showing up under the impression that he has got a couple of bottles of nitrous lying around and that he can install them on the spot, or making requests for parts that don't exist.

Fortunately, there is a karmic balance to all of this. I live near the convergance of two arterial roads, and thanks to a few one-way streets and strategically-placed median strips, it can be really difficult to get into my street unless you know exactly where you are going. So whenever one of these idiots comes visiting, it takes them a good half-hour to get out.

Did you really just fabricate an entire quote from me to make an imaginary point?

EDIT: I now see you quoted a different post from a different user and attributed it to me. Still odd.

I have no idea how your name got inserted into that quote. New forum layout still has some glitches I guess.

In my public speaking class, this kid who was doing a speech on how to drive a standard transmission said that his car did "the eighth mile in like four seconds." He has an A4 which has a big FMIC and BOV, but we all know those don't make a car any faster.
Once I got my Stealth TT, him and I were talking and he told me the last year for Stealths a had active aero. I flat out told him he was wrong because Stealths never had active aero, only the VR4s did for the first several years. He was also telling me how he was able to get over 60 pounds of boost because he installed the pistons out of a diesel A4. Riiiiggghht.

Also, when I was in high school some kid was trying to tell me Audi was Australian.

I would hate to be that stupid.

I would have straight up told him he was a liar considering I have some experience on a 1/8th mile track. I can't see that car doing anything faster than a 10 at maybe 70mph, which is pretty meh considering I've seen crap boxes run mid 9's. An Ecoboost F150 would walk all over that.

Deisel pistons tend to be stronger due to the high compression strain on the engine but 60lbs of boost? Puh-leeeze.

Reading the last part gave me a mental image of some dimwitted kid riding around the area in an iridescent Civic, trying to find a way out.

Some days, that happens on the hour, every hour. My street is a Venus flytrap for morons. Easy and alluring to get into, difficult to get out of.

And it's not just Civics, either.
