Most of the time I cannot see the newly connected players in quick matches, so sometimes about the half of the grid in front of me is empty.
Also from the second races I cannot change brake settings on DFGT. Anyone else has these problems?

Just out of sheer boredom, I decided to give these events another try to see if I could, by some miracle, get put into some clean races. Well, I couldn't even get connected. Four server disconnects right in a row. :banghead: Mind you, I have an excellent internet connection and have never had online connectivity issues in the past. I must say, between the circus of dirty ass drivers when you do manage to get into a room and these connectivity issues, this part of the game is utter garbage. 👎

I'll be doing a video on this, this week but ye, here's the written version!

Well I had a go at the quick match events and wow... I mean don't get me wrong the idea is absolutely fantastic but there's so many major flaws in it at the moment. I did 7 races I think it was, the first I picked a 370z (Obviously :P) it's my favourite car and I assume you can only use courtesy cars, which is a very good idea meaning a quite even field, or so I thought... Turns out the NSX Type R is the car to use but non the less knowing that I'm an alright racer I went into the race only to be pitted and t-boned!

I'm not one to give up so picked the NSX Type R and decided lets try again, and give them a real race ;)! 3 Attempts at matching and being disconnected (They should also let you select the settings before auto putting you into a lobby it really is annoying. This way you can warm up before joining to a race a bit like GT5 Prologue)!

4th attempt I made it! No way I was leaving so started the first race. The Chaos is just nuts really unless you're at the front or near the front you're getting hit by somebody it's just by how many and how hard and whether they will go invisible and you might get lucky! I came from near the back to 3rd only to be pitted by 2 people but kept going non the less to witness the trouble makers.

Now before I continue there are some clean racers in these lobbies, within this lobby I had a good race with 3 people during the next lot of races but the rest were either very careless and a few were purposefully pitting people and wiping people out.

As the races went by another thing I noticed was the number of competitors drop (That's in the next bit). But I continued to look at the driving to see who the culprits were. In one race I witnessed a guy basically wipe out 2/3 people, I overtook cleanly for him to pit me (He had hit me so many times in previous races), I did lose my cool a little and went for a slight T-Bone (But so I could still make the corner if it put me invisible, and it did put me invisible), but it scared him enough for him to go off track anyway so was happy at that point and continued on.

Out of the 7 races I won 4 but that was with a reducing field and the only reason I won 4 was because 3 of them I started on the first 2 rows and the last one was due to me initially starting 11th according to the screen with 5 cars being invisible? So actually started 6th and just was much faster.

Right to the invisible part... I'm confused, I really am as this surely had to have been tested? Why is it the grid says I'm 11th but I'm actually 6th? I'm assuming they are in the lounge but we can't see each other? If this is the case the whole thing is flawed in the first place?

The to long didn't read version:

Pros:

  • Quick Races
  • No need to find a lounge
  • Can race at any time of day
  • Race new people

Cons:

  • Need a very harsh penalization system for contact
  • Invisible cars
  • Crashes
  • Cars are to uneven when using courtesy car (Choice of 8 and everyone selects the same car?)
  • Constant disconnects when trying to find a lounge (Matching)

I really hope in Gran Turismo 7 this is in! It's a fantastic idea, but I hope they actually test it and think of some solutions to the problems because it really just makes people frustrated and not wanting to play.

Just my thoughts on it really if anyone was interested :)! I'll post the video up as well this week and some footage from the races!

I think that the Quick Match is a great game mode, but unfortunately there are still many problems, like the rest of game especially in online mode.
There are many things that can be improved, for example, change the car without getting out of the lobby.

But PD can not possibly affect the dirty and unfair drivers who are still the majority who play this game.

Yes they can. They can implement some type of driver rating/penalty system like iRacing does. If they really cared and wanted to clean up the online activities, they could. If not a system like iRacing, they could come up with something different I'm sure. The fact of the matter is, is that it is probably not very high up on their priority list, if its even on the list at all, so its just something that people are going to have to deal with if they wish to continue to use that part of the game. In other words, it is what it is, enter at your own risk. :P

Exactly my thinking. To be fair I actually think a system which integrates Gran Turismos own licencing system to give a driver an initial rating would work wonders. You'll get people trying to do the licences over and over again to try and improve their times as well as driver skill. Create some crazy algorithm which then gives a driver a rating from the licences, then add additional factors in like race wins/positions, contact penalties, shortcut penalties things like that. You could even have some sort of fair play vote that other drivers could give you for racing exceptionally clean and you soon end up with a system which could help with it all. Then the dirty racers go with the dirty racers, the clean with the clean (I realise it's more complicated than this but the idea is there).

Just on an addition to that, they could then introduce leagues and other things from that, that would make people want to race and play more.

In the end though Gran Turismo 7 has some really big competition to face so it has to perform! I love the franchise it was my first ever racing sim/video game and I wouldn't want to make 6 or 7 my last of the franchise... Other than the game performing there's 1 other factor for me and that's current wheel issues but that is another story for another topic!

I said right from the beginning about this, that some sort of rating system should be implemented. The idea in theory is good but has either been rushed or not tested properly.
It would also be nice to hear from PD if any thing will be done to make the experience enjoyable. As I am an average driver and not sure about doing online for me this looked a good way of seeing how I compared, but now I am put off from even trying online.
I really hope this gets sorted as it would be nice to get some good racing.

I have the worst internet connection in the World (AT&T 156KB/s) and I connect flawlessly, 19/20.

And SRF is off on the 500 pp at the Autum Ring event 👍

I know that you need to wait until the quick match tells you it has found others to race with before you modify the driving options to avoid the system freezing up, but after I wait to make the adjustments it seems that at least half the time I get disconnected from the server or some other message I don't recall the name of now.

But, do you experience disconnect from server or unable to match so frequently that you just give up eventually?

Like I have 45 minutes in the middle of the day to play, I am lucky if I can get ONE quick match in during that time.

Unable to match should mean nobody to race, but I thought I could see races going on after it told me that but not sure.

I just dont know if I am doing something wrong or what, very frustrating.

I have what I think is a good connection, my speeds are 50 Mbps down and 3.00 Mbps up.

So, tell me it is not just me, please, and if not, shouldnt they have resolved this by now? Why does anyone routinely disconnect from the server?

BTW, reading my whining might lead someone to think I am not grateful for this game, I am. I like it...

I dont know how to connect a headset so I can talk to other racers, I might try that someday, I do love my racing wheel set up, G27 Logitech. Is there anything newer out there for wheels/pedals?

It drives me crazy that I cant get a single race in during my lunch break, on the other hand, I am old enough to really appreciate this technology and when it does work it is amazing.

But GRRRR when I cant get a race in after 30 minutes of trying...

When I say old enough I mean I can remember the days when we thought "pong" was truly amazing and we couldnt really imagine anything more advanced at the time, somebody imagined it though...

OP Updated. Sounds like I'm really lucky. Haven't gotten any (actually maybe 2 or 3) bad rooms. Everyone races clean, and congratulates each other in a PM so my experience in Quick Match is a lot different to most people.

I've ran almost 100 races in the Quick Match Rally Car Battle at Cape Ring North // Expert //. I'm having a blast, slowly getting faster and working my way to the top...........and now winning 90% of my races. I'm actually learning how to drive these cars better. Plus, every 15th race or so............I have come across a driver that is way faster than I'll ever be. I have noticed that depending on the specific Match Race you have entered ..........the default setting for SRF ALTERNATES........... and will either be set to "ON" or "OFF". If you hang around one track for awhile, you'll start to collect more respectful drivers.....and I have had some really good, clean battles. Depending on what your goals are for this game, yes, these are not for everyone, but I'm a believer in them.............and really like this new feature.

Just couldn't help myself and decided to try this again. Finally was able to get connected and actually get 3 races in at Autumn Ring. The results were still the same though with the dirty ass drivers. First race I started on the front row, only to get taken out at the first turn. Second race, I started in the back, worked my way into 1st place only to get pit maneuvered on the last lap coming to the line. Third race was more of the same. I started in the middle and had the lead on the last lap only to again get taken out on the last few turns. Each time it was clearly intentional as two of the three times, it was the same guy. People just can't stand to lose and will do whatever it takes to spoil other's races as well. That's pretty much it for me as far as this game mode goes, its just an online, win at all costs, demolition derby.

Still recovering from a shoulder surgery I am not competitive for the WRS Time -trials just using the left arm for driving my DFGT wheel. So I have been doing quick races, almost every night for the last couple of weeks, because I have the GT bug and cant keep away from the game.
In Autumn ring and Silverstone some sessions have been ok; it depends if there are hooligans or if they stay long. Then we are the ones who have to move .... Its a bit like the world these days ... Anyway , as I said I did have some clean and very well disputed races.

Two further notes of today:

At the Kei cars one guy in a blue Mazda must have some tech thing, some hidden cheat power, he could go faster, out of the track, back again like a rocket raming all the people and gaining positions!!

One great driver that has a lot of wins in the WRS TT's (I dont tell his name) appeared in the inicial list of one race with a yellow Beat. Funny, cause the probability of 40/50 guys appearing amongst thousands is very little I guess. Pity he disapeared right before the race started. It would be great to see him giving one lap of advance in a 2-lap race

I have been having an absolute blast in Rome! Yes, you get the yahoo's who can't drive the car they choose, but I've also come across quite a few racers who are not only clean but fast in whatever weapon they choose. The faster they are the faster I get... palms sweating, heart almost stopping as you try a tight pass, make it and try to run away from them. I've seen some great races, set some great PB times in Rome and gotten some of my favourite losses ever from some memorable ID names .

Even back a while ago running GT3 cars at Cote d'Azur I had a lot of great races. I gotta start remembering to save more replays :banghead:. I really enjoy the quick match concept but it needs to be refined. For me, good has triumphed over evil and I'm damn near hooked to getting that adrenaline rush from a great race. Hope the next set is just as fun!

Cheers

I am one of the people to enjoy racing against you in many races the past few days. I have raced under two different ID names (jimbo8351 and cbonewald). I think you might remember me due to our close races.I have been fortunate to win a few of them.
I am a 63 yr. old online newbie.I had never raced online until the second set of QM events. Some of the events are demolition derbies, but I have found the 700PP race car expert events to the best to participate in.
Some of the online pros on this forum have bashed QM, but I would never have experienced the online aspect of the game without it. I had completed the game on four accounts and have only been doing the weekly seasonal events for many months. Thanks to QM I have now been playing the game for many hours each week.

I continue to be fascinated by the whole QM Concept. This morning I observed that over 90,000 participants were online in QM at the same time. Yes, at any given time you may end up in a room with course cutters, dive bombers and retaliatory drivers.............but it's pretty entertaining to try and survive in that kind of environment! However, if you hang around a single room long enough............. you'll find that the feverish frenzied pitch of bad behavior cycles about every 20 races or so...................and will eventually subside and filter down into a few drivers that practice great Racecraft. I have had great races and made new friends with many racers that are clean and fast. Yes, there's definitely room for improvement, but with 90,000 participants...............it's here to stay.

Oh I remember the cbonewald moniker... you're one of the examples I was trying to describe. I'm 48 on a normal DS3 using AT and have tried a few times to catch up to your dust.... People like yourself and quite a few others bring out the best in racing online, and only feed my competitive spirit. If it weren't for people like yourself, I would have given up as I am a relative online noob with experience racing online only beginning with GT6.

Cheers

[...] I observed that over 90,000 participants were online in QM at the same time. [...] but with 90,000 participants [...]

How could you observe this? I guess you just sumed up the numbers of races displayed at each event in the QM-Event-Selection-Screen, but - as the manual, as well as observation, tells me that this number doesn't give the amount of players or games currently running, but the total number of races finished since the start of the event. ;)
