I absolutely love to watch the guys racing Ginettas at the VDCA events, but on the game I just can't seem to handle them! I have tried just about every set up I can manage, but just when I think I have the understeer fixed, I wind up with too much torque I guess? and when I try to accelerate out of a corner it spins me around. Even the brakes seem to fail me, like I stop faster in my 64 GTO than the G4...

It's just really annoying the mess out of me, and if any of you can help me figure out how to get this thing race ready?

Is this that little tiny car?
I bought one because it looked fun.
If it's the right car, I'll play with it later tonight and let you know what I come up with.
What track, or at least type of track are you looking at?
Have your current setup, so I know what we're working with?

In real life they are a blast, but on GT5 I just can't figure it out. Generally I do my testing on Laguna Seca because it is far and away my favorite track, so I guess that'd be the place for you to try it. I couldn't tell you my set up because I have pretty well tried everything, that I could think of. I hate to admit it, but I finally found a car that's bested me....

Is this max HP on Race Softs, or... ?
Just hopped in it, and realized I don't know what your limitations are.

I maxxed one of mine out after the seasonal time trial and had the same problem. During the event it was all about driving without body roll and picking up time and the car seemed simple. Once I maxxed one of them out it with racing softs on Nurburgring it never felt quite right. I don't think they allow a wing for this car either. I was going to post a request for this car because it seems to have Elise 111R RM potentiol.

So... I had a whole write up going... but... nothing was working on this car.
So I'm going to keep it short and simple.

Test Track - Laguna Seca
Default Set up: 1:31.012
Car felt sloppy. Add Chassis Rigidity from the Tuning Shop then go to GT Auto and perform Chassis Maintenance. This helps the car feel more stable and controlled.

Nuke the LSD down to 5/5/5
1:30.020 (Increase the DeAccel setting to what feels comfortable to you, 10-15 is about right. Adjust the brake balance to compensate a bit as well, I used 5/6 to help keep the rear end from getting too light.

Adjust the transmission gears
1:29.922

Everything I did beyond this point... made it worse.
The LSD makes a rather large difference. Default the suspension, apply this LSD and take it around the track. Let me know if you feel the same thing I did. From there, you're on your own :P Even the tunes from GTVault made it worse; but I only tried 3 of them.

Sorry I can't be of more help, maybe a tuner can chime in.

I'll try to tune it. When I've sucess, you can see it in my new garage I'll open this week. (with Yellowbird, Cobra, Ford GT40, Ginetta G4?, .....all bad 🤬 cars!)

I sort of narrowed it down to a LSD thing last night, which I haven't quite gotten the concept of yet.. And yes, I went and maxed everything out the other day before actually driving it, thinking that as light and quick as they are naturally, I could mess with the suspension to keep the under/oversteer neutral and it should win at everything forever. I ran it with 15 Initial Torque, 55 Acceleration, and 20 Braking, and got it down to a 1:30 point something, but it was sliding all over the track and making life difficult.

I know this car is like the Cobra that everyone writes off for handling too bad and has ungodly amounts of potential if I (or any of y'all) could figure it out, so I appreciate the help!

I think this car has the same problems as the Lotus Elan. They are both an absolute blast when left bone stock because of their lightweight nature but a nightmare when maxed out. Shame because the Lotus was my favorite "giant killer" in GT4, able to take on bigger and more powerful cars especially in the Tsukuba Wet challenge.

I gave her a spin for an hour or so trying to tune it and it's a beast!! Best I could do was about a 1:30 flat at Laguna. Interestingly, I was using a 5/7/10 LSD setting. Anything more on the Accel and I'd just light up the rear wheels if she was just a touch off balance or not in a straight line. Anything higher on the Decel and it was too much oversteer. This was offline too, can't imagine what it would be like online...lol.

That was my problem too!
They're such incredible race cars in real life, I wonder what happened in game...
I'm not gonna give up on that thing though. I will find a good tune for it, cause a car that light with that much power should be able to turn 24's at Laguna

Ok I may have gotten it. I had it down to a 1:30 flat, but could easily cut another second or two if I took the time to drive it more (Kept losing alot of time at the corkscrew and turn four)

Try this set:
Transmission - 149mph
LSD - 8,5,18
Ride Height - -10/-5
Spring Rate - 13.2/10.2
Dampers (Extension) - 5/5
Dampers (Compression) - 5/5
Anti-Roll Bars - 5/3
Camber Angle - 1.9/2.3
Toe Angle - 0.0/.25
Brake Balance - 5/6

That's basically eliminated the wheel spin, and it feels like it sticks much better in the corners (though I'm sure it could be made better still). My biggest complaint is the braking. It still seems sluggish to me, ideas?

Your springs are too stiff. The G4 is a very light car, and needs softer springs than other cars to achieve the same ride quality.

How does yours do over bumps and whatnot? I had to really spend some time with the spring rate and dampers to get anything close to a smooth ride

It works great! I tried my tune on Trial Mountain and it was very very stable.
Of course it jumps from time to time, but the car is only 400kg and still stable. I had no problems to drive it.

I'm definitely going to have to try your suspension set for sure then, because that is what was killing me. I couldn't get mine below about a 1:30 because the track was so rough

And? Do you like it? Let me know how it is, please.

I went back and re-tuned mine, and it actually came out very close to yours, other than I have a slightly different setting on my LSD. I also tweaked the spring rate so that I could balance the dampers, because the car will always ride better if you can match them. Good tune though, I appreciate it!

BTW, I noticed on your thread that you were working on a Cobra tune. Last night I was playin with mine and came up with what feels like a brilliant set-up for that. After one or two laps I was down to a 1:15.5xx with another second+ to pick up, and the same on Trial Mt. (1:27.4xx) and Laguna Seca (1:25.2xx)

Sometimes things which look great in theory turn out to be a complete disappointment in practice.
Here's how I got to an idea to max out my G4:
The car appeared in UCD, I bought it and maxed it out thinking it can win the Historic Racing Car Cup.
The numbers looked great on paper: 440kg & 270hp - great power to weight ratio I thought.
But then I took it for a spin and, as it turned out - it's chassis can't handle that much power, it's weak plasic body just can't cope with engine's power and torque. It had bodyroll, understeer with sudden oversteer. I thought this car would fly but I was wrong.
So I just left it rot in my garage, not bothering with an useless car.

Sometimes too much isn't always the best (another example would be maxing out the McLaren F1, a fully tuned one is actually slower than the stock one around the Ring).

Well to awnser t op: NO!, it's an oldtimer (i love them, should be premium tho., then again so should all cars), they've got some quirks usualy, that's the game of oldtimers.
But it's nice to be able to improve them.., THANKS for the tuners 👍
Greetings stano666:)
