I HIGHLY doubt of this, but the day 1 patch still hasnt been released. Maybe there will be some improvements then. Like I said, highly doubtful though, but still a chance. At this point though, all I can say is oh well.
I feel that there is no way the first patch will address the improvements in sound PD have mentioned. That will be more likely further down the line.

If GT had good sounds I would probably play it non stop and completely lose my social life.
Also, GT bad and repetitive sounds help me to sleep when I'm too agitated. 👍
:( :banghead: 🤬

I think there will be no patch with "new" sounds...

Guys let´s be serious here, the current sounds should be eliminated from every car...they have to change every one of them and put the real deal instead. With the amount of cars that we have, it will be impossible to do in a year or so...only if all of their team work in them...and even if they have plans to do something like this...which I doubt.

After the leaked info about GT6 and the videos (I will get Anniversary Edition day one by the way) I just give up with the idea of a "holy patch" that can save and please our ears with real and accurate engine sounds...the soul of any car.

I will try to not fall asleep at Nürburgring as happened a lot of times in GT5 though...

Thank god I´m not a guy who plays just one thing...I have a lot of simulators on PC and racing games overall...Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2, Simbin with its games and others are doing a great job in the sound department, and I can enjoy them when I stop playing Gran Turismo...if only PD sort this..."problem"...the game will be much better and more enjoyable for sure.

Gran Turismo 7 can be the one who changes this...imagine a Ferrari sounding like a Ferrari...a Mustang...etc...

Incredible that we are asking for something so basic in any racing game...the engine sounds...:odd:

Thumbs up for reverse logic

More and more evidence of placeholder sounds in newer replays... The RangeRover etc... I really hope this gets some love on release... I'd be perfectly happy if they just did batches at a time...

Guys, I saw a GT500 video on the Screenshots/Video Forum, It sounds like a V8, but at the same time, it sounds like a vaccum!

This is audio positioning, if they just turned down the mechanical noise from 10-3 and the exhaust from 3-10, then set the positioning to override the camera location... Or just KILL the engine mechanical noise and keep transmission and blow off valves... Its not a glamorous fix but it's 120% better then it is now...

The truth is if you put your ear under your hood, or the bumper where the camera is you'll be heading more engine than exhaust (fans, valves, belts, intake, etc. Its noisy under your hood), though this is realistic it's a great example of "Real isn't fun" (and the cockpit sound is just flat wrong, arguably a bug!)... And enforces the argument that more liberties need to be exercised in the name of fun and immersion... leading to real feeling...

It sort of depends on the car, and since PD are using sounds from a time when they didn't record cars at full throttle, you don't get much induction sound (unless you put the mic really close to the intake, which they generally didn't do back then). For all cars, that is a big problem.

Take the below video for example; the microphone is under the bonnet, and the only time you hear the ancillaries (well, the valvetrain I think), is when the throttles are shut. I think that says it all.

(Compare interior and exterior of the same car)

In terms of the sound update, the way that PD would probably put intake sounds into the game would be as an extra layer. If they're struggling with the RAM limitation and bandwidth cap as it is, they can't do that using traditional sampling without having to use even shorter samples (which are a quality issue in themselves in the absence of any combustion or drivetrain simulation) and / or reducing the number of audible sources, e.g. by applying sound Level of Detail scaling to other cars, as some games do.
That only really leaves "generating sounds in a completely different way".

And to under-play the role the sound engine plays is a huge mistake. A piece of music is only as good as the system you play it back on, and there is a lot the sound engine does to not only colour the sounds coming from the game (in the way a "Hi-Fi" might), but also the way it's controlled and mixed etc. It is as much a part of the overall feel of the game's sound as the samples are, although most people can only "hear" the sound of the samples.

We seem to be much better at suspending disbelief with sounds (as opposed to visuals), such that spatial cues (e.g. reverb, diffraction, interference patterns etc.) and mixing (attenuation, directionality etc.) can be much less accurate and we won't mind as long as it vaguely sounds right - which is why so many people are happy with standard iPod headphones, presumably.

If / when the new sounds come, perhaps then the donkey work PD have done on the technical side of things, i.e. the "sound engine", will be more appreciated.

If all they have to do is put the microphone under this to get that sound, I'm all for it:

You guys probably won't care much about this since it's about the Redbull X2010. I mentioned it in the other thread and people seem to have overlooked it/didn't care. Anyway, the X2010 sounded like a formula 1 car and I thought it was a pretty good sound. It was really loud too. Sounds totally different than it did in GT5.

Yeah. It's gone from sounding like a pitched-up F1 V8 in GT5 to the turbo V6 it should have sounded like from the start. Shame it's the only real improvement I've heard thus far.

Couldn't agree more. I've mentioned a few times that since GT7 is in production I find it less likely that GT6 will get the update. I'm not sure Kaz can say "No" to a question. His "That's something we might do" response was after the interviewer asked him if the new sounds would come later though an update. If the sounds would come via an update, it would have to be pretty damn big to make serious changes for the better.

I can confidently say that almost all car fans genuinely care about how their vehicles sound. I've spent well over 1K on my car because it matters to me. Kaz is clearly an avid car fan and yet so many other developers surpass PD in the sound department. I hope PD brings their A game when it comes time to unveil their shiny new sounds, and if its via an update in GT6 I will gladly eat humble pie.

Where did you find a video of the Red Bull X2010?

I saw a video of the X2011 at Goodwood and it sounded a lot more like the 2014 F1 cars are supposed to.

I'd like to meet one of the people who make videos like this. I want to hear them say, with a straight face, "I thought the engine would sound better with some techno elevator music in the background," and then taze them.

All because he "dared" to have music in a onboard video. Slightly off, don't you think?

Yes I did see that and you're right, it sounds very good. If they put half that effort into the rest of the cars....

The tires sound great but too bad the car doesn't.
Well that is probably with a racing exhaust.

But I don't know if you noticed that in that video the car does infact sound better.

It has a cross of the stock exhaust from GT5 and the racing exhaust from GT5.

It sounds to me that they made the engine noise show through a lot. I am satisfied

Regarding the complaints over the 365 GTB4's sound in GT6:

You guys realize this is essentially the sound of the 512BB in GT5 and GT6, right? Why are you only complaining about it now?

While the 512BB's sound was (and still is) disappointing, what I personally find funny, is that PD thinks the sound of a 5 litre flat 12 is good enough to substitute for the 4.4 litre 12 cylinder in the 365 GTB4. I can't help but wonder if the 250 GT and 250 GTO also share this same sound. Or, even worse, the 330 P4 sound... :scared:

We'll have to wait and see I guess.

I think that's mainly the race trans....not the exhaust. Kinda hard to pick up but the exhaust is very low and grumpy.

I think the camera is mostly behind the car with the exhausts pointing directly at it. If you can't hear the exhausts over the race gearbox which is muffled by the gearbox casing, the chassis and whatever other material is between the gearbox and the rear of the car, there's something SERIOUSLY wrong with the sound balance.

Straight cut gears make a lot of noise compared to helical gears, but they're not really that loud compared to the sound of a race car, or even any seriously sporty car being driven hard.

I know about straight cut gears in race trans causing excessive gear meshing(I like it), posted many times on this subject. I was not necessarily disagreeing with you, more pointing out the fact that was not the cars exhaust note. Yes the sound balance is messed up for sure, I'll wait until its on my TV and I adjust it for my liking;). Remember the srt-10, the exhaust note was very quiet in gt5 as well.

Sorry if this has been brought up already, but if you watch the video at 0.20 and 0.43 the sounds are really impressive. It makes me wonder if those clips were created with the updated sounds or if it's just made up for the trailer. Anybody know how PD has done in the past when having engine sounds in their trailers? And, does anybody know what car it is at 0.43?

You know, my main concern with sounds is with the Audi quattro S1 - it's one of the best sounding cars ever but PD failed at it... :(

Real:

GT6:

Sure, they might have changed since the demo at IgroMir. Can anyone who has a copy of GT6 make a video with sound showing of the quattro S1? :)

PD dub their trailers with sounds from real cars. That's not the new sounds.

Smells a bit of cheating no? Well it wouldn't be really wise for them to promote their game and people hear 12 vacuum cleaners driving past.

I sort of doubt they're the only ones that do it, it's just the most obvious in GT because the sounds are SO different in-game.

It is cheating, but it's just become one of those things, like big juicy looking cheeseburgers. Everyone expects the lie.

I suggest you listen to the redbull in that french hacked video on youtube.. it sounds better than an F1 car.. PD already have the right samples, they just need to spend some time on them with the new sound engine.

I'm pretty sure new (and correct) engine sound samples will be for GT7, because recording hundreds of cars require lots of time and I think they are planning to only do it ONCE, so with kaz statement about "generating sound in completely different way" I think he was waiting for the new sound engine for PS4 instead of playing around with soon to be obsolete PS3, they will analyze what kind of sampling they will need, how long, how many of it, the variations, what effects, etc, THEN they will start recording for the ultimate GT7 engine sound.

I hope my prediction is right so we can finally enjoy great engine sound in Gran Turismo 7.
