General Motors HQ is very close to agreeing to import Aussie-built Holdens into the US accordin to Bob Lutz, speaking at the recent New York motor show.

Bob Lutz says: "I can tell you that we are definitely planning to bring the Holden Monaro Coupe to America to become the 21st centery interpretation of the legendary Pontiac GTO."

"As we finish up the final work toward sign-off, we anticipate you'll see it as a Pontiac GTO early in the auto show season next year. And sometime after that, it will start appearing in Pontiac dealerships across the country, and I think people will flat-out love driving it."

Mike Simcoe, Holden Design Director, says: "The changes from Monaro to GTO will be as minimal as possible. We have to be careful we don't design ourselves into a huge amount of cost."

You Americans will finally get to experience an Aussie car

I rather see the new Monaro in a Chevy Impala SS coupe rather than Pontiac GTO. It doesn't match between heritage=styling kinda thing.

Unless, if its going to look like on its concept car version.

I have never been a big GTO fan. And I apologize for the following nationalistic comment, but Pontiac is being cheap and depriving us of an originally meant for Americans design by going over and rebadging a car from Australia. Like the Vette and Mustang, the GTO is one of our icons.

I mean no offense to Australians, of course.

We are making a car in Australia called the Monaro right. Holden (the car manufacturer that makes the Monaro) are going to export them to America and they will be like an interpretation of the GTO. They are not getting rebadged, they will just be like a new generation GTO (but not a Pontiac...get it now)

Well it does 0-60 in about 6 seconds or so. Bloody quick for a 3600lb car. And hey! It handles.
