I can understand why some people like NASCAR. 180mph, 3 cars wide, 40 cars on a mile oval and half that is empty... of course, there's a lot of time spent watching a 40 car train, which is why only seeing the highlights on a Sunday evening on British Eurosport is so good. My favorite racing? Probably banger racing.

I can't say I find Nascar very interesting when they go around ovals, but I did once see them on TV at Watkins Glen.

700bhp in big heavy cars with relatively unsophisticated RWD chassis and not a lot of downforce. It was very entertaining and made you realise that those guys can drive.

It's not even just that the cars are so uninspiring... it's the people. I could go hang out in a poverty stricken trailer park or a Walmart and get the same basic vibe as a NASCAR race. And driving on technical courses is so much more fun to watch.

But back to the cars... they are boring. I guess part of what I like about racing is seeing more exotic super cars that I don't see every day at a stoplight.

Eh, did you hear the latest on Jeff Gordon?

First of all, he's won only 2 championships, not the four the media will have you believe.

Second of all, he drives the number 12 car.

Why?

His wife took half of everything.

the few times i've seen racing besides nascar (only watched it when i didn't have a tv lol), it was just as boring. even if the track is more than just an oval, they go so much slower so it seems to be no challege in it to me.

and I agree with viper_maniac with what he said.

AND... the link to "F1Man's Forums" in RVDNuT374's profile doesn't work..

what racing was this? f1 is soooooo much faster than nascar. at monza the cars get up to 220mph i believe. what is more amazing is that they can slow from that speed so quickly. they must slow from 200mph to 50mph in 2.5 seconds. seeing this happen in real life will make you respect the cars much more. they are so much faster than stock cars.

i view amazing speed as acceleration and deceleration. so what if a nascar car is going 180mph (only at the long ovals, btw. 160 at smaller ones). how many g's of acceleration are the drivers experiencing? it must take them a while to get at that speed, and then its just as going 20mph. if there is no acceleration you are not feeling the speed other than seeing your surroundings go by faster. accelerating from 0 to 150mph in probably around 7 seconds however, is fast as hell.

i used to hate nascar, but now respect it as what it is. an average mans oval racing series. who cares. it is kind of annoying because fox pushes it so much and there is so much "whoring" of products. i mean why the hell is there a gigantic "tide bleach" decal on the car. maybe the cars are so big and fat for all of the sponsor labels and ugly paint. but if they want it, let them have it. there is a lot of passing in nascar, unlike f1 though. (even if a pass just takes drafting, little skill)

Are you watching cars that go around in circles?

That sucks, I could do that for real by going around the local roundabout again and again. Mind you itd would probably require more skill.

Go watch some REAL motorsport not some redneck rubbish (well if you are a redneck you probably dont know any better)

It takes skill, you dont even know the sport well enough to judge it. Unlike F1, NASCAR takes the thrill of passing and pure speed of straightaways, like how drag racing takes the excitement of two cars coming off th turn and racing toward the finish line (excpet no turns). In stock cars it gets pretty hot unlike F1 where the cockpit is open. You also have a different stategy to use. You have to draft your way up and use strategy to get up there which is also what 48 other drivers are doing. If all you see is a bunch of guys going in circles you havent really sen anything. (No offense of course :D )...

That might be sort of interesting if you're a the sweating hillbilly behind the wheel. But for the spectators there's nothing to see. I like to see a driver and car perform together. I also like seeing different cars, not all the same car. The fact that NASCAR is the most popular sport in America says it all... pure mob mentality, watered down, pureed motorsport for the masses.

No offense of course.

All racing takes skill (yes even 90MPH racing lawnmowers, though I personall think they arenuts but fun to watch  ). To put down a motorsport is pretty much putting down every race car driver to ever have gone on the track...

I know the point you making but still, you dont look at it as a whole. You have to watch each driver or group of drivers in their own battles. The fans are their to root for their driver. In F1 where you not only have to worry about being beaten by a better driver, you need to worry about being beaten by a better engine. NASCAR is made to be even so you know that your winning because of your skill, not because of your car. Its not watered down or pureed for the masses, you just need to look at it differently...

Ummm... no.

Yeah you are. Even Christain Fitipauldi (spelling) switched to NASCAR. If you put down a motorsport you doing that to everyone. Every racer knows that. Even though my dad raced in CART instead of NASCAR he knew this (so did his team mates)...

He probably switched for the money. I would too.

It says "Don't forget to wipe."
