The first half I was just sticking to Coconut and Moby like glue (they were on mediums). I factored in a little bit of that fuel saving when I pitted, but no where near enough. With 4 laps remaining I realized I had 3 laps of fuel on board, so I lost 8 seconds or so doing fuel saving the rest of the way.
I guess the lesson is that I needed to KNOW how much fuel I needed for the medium stint with no slipstream, and just ignore the computer.

My suggestion, ignore the laps remaining completely, and use % per lap. I will usually get a % per lap number going full out, and one saving. That way i know for sure how much I need/will use.

The only time that doesnt work is if boost is on, its impossible to know how much fuel will burn as you move through positions with boost on, as we all learned in the Super 'Stang series lol

Ive yet to figure out why % vs number of laps is anything different. Educate me! Why is 6 laps of a 12 lap tank any different than 50%?

So the 6 laps remaining is calculated based on what the game projects your fuel to be given what you have done already, so its the game using guess work to give you a number. If you have been fighting in traffic for the first part of the stint, and thus saving fuel by having to let off early and such, then you get into free air, when you do it may say 6 laps left, but since you are now going full out with no one around it will burn at a higher rate and unless you are checking constantly you may not see the difference starting to arise until its too late.

% per lap is a better indicator, because at least if you know what max burn rate is you can be sure you'll make it on fuel.

i.e. using your example, if you know that flat-out, balls-to-the-wall burn rate is 10% per lap, and you look at your fuel at 6 laps left and it says 50%/6 laps left, you know you'll be 10% short if you really push, even though its says you have 6 laps left.

Hope that helps!

Another way is to test in practice how many laps you can do at full send. That is if you are able to practice.

I do the 2nd thing Sud said which is constantly checking my fuel usage. Lol. At the start of the race I flip over to fuel map and there it gives you all the info you need. I just leave it on that screen the whole race. I have never had a fuel issue doing it that way. SuperStangs I decided to take it off that screen and thus ran out of fuel.

Ok

I will be unable to race this week, unfortunately I am having to get surgery tomorrow. While it is a short notice surgery, I expect recovery to be relatively quick. Disappointing as I love Bathurst. Timing for the final race at Spa is iffy, so please take me off auto confirm and I will update before the final race at Spa.
