As the title says, PlayStation Blog EU has just announced a special new release of GT5 for the PAL/EU coming 26th September 2012.

Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition Blu-Ray (game) release will contain GT5 game (probably with all the latest updates already on the disc, as it was the case with NTSC US/JP release of "GT5 Spec II/XL Edition) and majority of* DLC packs released so far for €29.99/£19.99, including:

  1. Complete Pack (Car Pack, Course Pack, Special Paint Pack, Racing Gear Pack)
  2. Car Pack 2
  3. Car Pack 3 and Course Pack 2
  4. The Nissan GTR driven in this year’s Nurburgring 24 hour race by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi

* DLC missing on this list is Motegi Pack (Speed Test Pack is included under the name "Course Pack 2")

Also, there may be some additional extras coming in (C/P from PSEU.blog QA):

Q:
Does it mean we can expect some new extras besides already known DLC, or “whole host of extras” covers only previously released DLC content?
Q:
Anything new for the die-hard GT fans like myself to look forward to in the near future?

A:
And about the extra “extras”… Unfortunately I cannot say anything at the moment, but stay around and you might have a nice surprise…
Even if I can’t say anything specific at the moment, if I were you I would keep an eye on the official website…

More at the PlayStation Blog EU.

Here is the packshot:

Despite already owning all the DLC, this is actually a tempting deal for me. My hard drive is bordering on full and if this cuts off the majority of my 15GB GT5 install I may just have to shell out for it.

I'm not sure what I think about getting Kaz's GTR. Every new bit of content is good, but there's a few cars I'd rather have then that GTR. On another trail of thought, the Nurburgring race was only two months ago and the car is already prepared to go in, which is obviously a lot quicker then the commonly quoted "6 months per car..."

One last thing, remember this...

The special development version of Gran Turismo brought into the garage. Damper strength, spring ratio, aerodynamics and fuel economy can be set in an instant, and test driven
from the GT website's news post about the race?

I smell a big and (hopefully) satisfying update prior to the Academy edition's release... Maybe even spec 2 big...

Oh yes. The GT5 original release with no DLC or extra content is still £19.99 round here. I'm going to get this.

I predicted something like this would come for GT5 as a launch title for the super slim PS3. So people can play GT5 with no install (or only 256mb required) on a 16GB £99 PS3. One of the best PS3 games helping to bring a new budget console to new customers.

Damn , I got all DLCs only need that new 24H GTR.. Will I have to buy it again all the others? :(

I won't be buying this DLC. I'm tired of the Nissan GT-R fetish PD seems to have. I think it was already quite clear the fans want other cars instead of countless Nissans and nonsense rebadged models. If PD fails to listen, I fail to grab my wallet.

Almost certain how new GT-R will come as a free DLC for everyone with some of the upcoming updates around 26th September.

The image on the screen is clearly a version of GT5 to which we've previously never been exposed. I think you may have a discovery here...

Well, he's the prototype GT-Academy winner isn't he? GT made it possible for him to race in the way he does I guess.

What do you mean? He won in a two car category as an amateur driver.

It does seem odd to call it the Academy Edition when except that car there is nothing special about it related to the Academy. The uninitiated purchaser might expect something more in a specific 'edition' for the academy.

Going to have my wife pick this up when she goes to Germany in November.

Question: if it is the Academy version shouldn't it include all the GT Academy Cars and driving suit?

This is the 3rd version of GT5 now, isn't it?
Along with the platinum edition with patches built in.

Only mentioning this to those who skate the other franchise for coming out Bi annually.

RouteX was Course Pack 2.

Yap, I edited the OP.

I am thinking in the same line, there could be some initiative there, maybe even new Academy Events in the Special Event section. But all we can do now is speculate.

However, there is some more "official" development, there may be some additional extras coming in (C/P from PSEU.blog QA):

How do we know that this won't take up the same hard drive space that the current game + all patches does right now? It is true that you wouldn't have to download all of it when you boot the game up, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't install it all to your hard drive anyway from the disc.

Pretty good deal but the extra skyline.... that's pretty funny . I wish all the included DLC was on the disk rather than a code to save on downloading and HDD space.

But I suspect they will be doing these types of bundles for years to come and it might be worth waiting for the "complete edition". I wouldn't want to buy this then find new DLC comes out a month later costing nearly as much!

I really like the box art though 👍

How big is the update data now? Because the base GT5 game is 19GB or thereabouts, add on the DLC and you're probably at 22GB leaving only another GB or so on a single layer disc. So either they would have to switch to a DL disc (unlikely, given the cost) or there is simply no room on the disc to include all of the updates.

All the *stuff* till 2.07 update is on the disc, confirmed on PSBlog.

DLC codes are only few 100kb and they unlock you content on disc for in-game usage, same as for updates so far.

Yes but the gtr is BRAND new. Will the "normals" get it?

They must be having a laugh with another GTR. Gran Turismo Nissan GTR: 5.

Curious as to what the "undisclosed extras" are.
