This release is just after TGS.
So I doubt there will be any news on GT6 there.

Why not? If they will show up for TGS, this being revealed now just gives them more time for Gamescom or TGS, since they won't need to be talking about this Academy Edition of GT5, and hopefully that something else will be about GT6. Plus this may be a sign of the final nail in the coffin for GT5 support before they start talking about GT6 in any way.

From my viewpoint, I am buying this just because it will look good next to the rest of my Gran Turismo collection.

The extras part is definitely intriguing. What could it be? A new update with new features? New free content? Stealth or Chromeline cars? A voucher for GT-Vita? Car wash coupons?

I would buy a new copy if they make a completely complete edition with everything on the disc ( requiring no downloads ).

I went on the Sony blog & asked if Americans can get this car, like in DLC. & I also asked what is the more new yet to come on the title. & this is what I got. "At the time of writing the GT-R #123 will be exclusive to Academy Edition customers. Things might change later on, never say never.
I am afraid we’ll have to wait a little longer for the extra news, we’re hard at work! "

Yes, but to not in NTSC spec. You have to have HD-tv.

GT5 is only 60Hz, I don't believe there is a "PAL" 50Hz version.

You can play it since all PS3 games are region free but you'll need to start a new save, your US one won't be compatible.

Every European PS3 game does support 50Hz (576i50).

You're getting about £25 worth of DLC so the game is free and it contains all the patches on disc so it's worth having.

If you're referring to the fan test method, it didn't work. I'll have to use more invasive methods.

A pair of tweezers should help you getting that disk out.

I should also add that with a notoriously slow internet access in my area, it would take me forever to download all of the updates, and that's with a major Ivy League university in the area. So it would behoove me to get either the XL Edition or this package.

Now on Amazon for £16.87 inc delivery. Also says August 26th release but that could be typo. Still under £17 for the whole game patch updated on disc and with all DLC except Motegi. Nice.

Fingers crossed this gets released in Australia although none of the major games retailers know anything about it.

That boxart looks good. Bright and clean, looks better then normal GT5 in my eyes.
