I'd half expect a PM from one of PD's lawyers if I were you.

"Hi there, would you be cool with us using your made up box art as uh... our real GT5 box art? :sly: cool, thanks in advance 👍"

I don't mean for my following comments to be taken in a disrespectful way, as I do respect the creator of this case for there entry. Hey you spent the time to submit an entry and give it a go.;)👍
But to all you Nurburgring fanboys:
Do you really believe that a cut and paste single layer image is going to be the next Gran Turismo cover? This image of the Nurburging is all over the internet, as a cover I say that it lacks creativity and most importantly it lacks originality. Also I don't think any company would release there product without at least a hint to suggest they made it! (No PD logo)
Then there is always the lack of basics such as the 'mark-of-GT', always there, blue & red 'GT' logo . This logo has been on every Gran Turismo game cover since the beggining of the series...I seriously doubt they are planning on removing it for GT5.
No offence to the original submitter of this case design, because I do agree with everyone that this photo of the Nurburgring is a brilliant shot. But I have to adamantly disagree with it as the sole cover based representation of a somewhat special and prestigous title as Gran Turismo.
Ok...feel free to flame and carry on..as I know some of you will, but pleeeeasssse...have some substantial argument to your case as opposed to just meaningless demonstrations of idiocy.

I'm no Nurb fanboy, I've never seen that image all over the net (haven't looked), and so for me, the very reason for its simplicity gets my vote. It looks fantastic, so what's wrong what that? Isn't part of the creative process actually looking around for inspiration and seeing what would and wouldn't work as a box art image? Out of all the thousands of pictures of the Nurb out there, this one was picked for a very precise reason.

Of the 35 images hosted in that thumbnail there, 33 of them show images of vehicles on one way shape or form. Ummm, where is the originality in that?

Personally, I think you are being a bit too pedantic about what you think should and should not make up a cover based on what has been done before. Pointing out the lack of a "blue & red" GT logo, or the lack of PD logo for example. Speaking of which, you evidently do not know what you are talking about because GT5 Prologue does not have your "blue & red" logo.

At the end of the day, this is not a contest to produce a shelf-ready cover. It's a contest to show design flair to come up with a concept that would really fit the game. The cover in question does that nicely for me - understated yet full of meaning. So what if it's an unmodified single layer? Since when was that an enforced rule? I say more fool to those who spent hours and hours beavering away with multiple layers and effects...sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

GT/PD logos and photoshop skills aside :indiff: certainly PD wouldn't copy this box art verbatim regrdless of how much they loved it. It's the concept.

I think that image speaks volumes and represents GT perfectly. I can't recall anything like this on a game box, as unoriginal as you claim it to be. That you can't distinguish any cars in the image makes it better. The fact that it's Nur doesn't matter, could be entirely made up like SSR5 or something. It captures the essence of motorsport and not just some single car or couple of cars. I don't think any one or two clearly defined vehicles on the box - doing whatever - represents the game at all. No offense to any of the other entries - all of which are awesome.

As i'm french i wanted to make a french version of the cover.
here is the result :

The car is the 2009 Renault Megane Trophy

loving the second one.. though i think if u had a different car with a different colour would look great!!! facing that way also

Well, taking a strait shot from the internet is not all that original but that particular shot is very artistic and really shows off one of the worlds most famous race circuits in stunning fashion. The ring has been a big part of the GT series and is arguable the most coveted track. This shot could also be recreated in GT5 if GT5 has a photomode and night racing. So in theory the exact shot could come from GT5. It is more the idea of the picture not the picture itself. Also GT covers have always had cars on them, the fact that this is a track is original in its own way. Things like the PD logo are really quite minor. To me the picture just works.

I could do this all day long but i also have my job to do so... And a second one with the type of car i really expect for GT5 Porsches

My vote is on this one if there is any voting.

Nurb at night looks beautiful too but this one is the best.

I just couldn't let this slip, way too much fun! :) I'm too late I know, but it's just for fun and I had this idea, so I wanted to know how it worked out. I think the nurb at night is the best of all, it just captures the atmosphere so well.

did you take that shot yourself? If so, You should definatly look at the GT4 photomode comps.

That cover is awesome!👍

Seems like Rusty* has decided to crawl under a rock after that last post regarding the lack of originality in the Nurb cover...

Well you think incorrectly, my friend. No GT game ever released has had the PD logo on the front cover (at least in North America). Sony is the publisher and only their logo will appear on the front cover of GT5. PD gets theirs on the back only.

There was one with damage posted I think. And why is there all this whining about the PD logo. I think Polyphony Digital will get it on the right place without you arguing over it. Sheesh. I rather think this thread is about the concept of the cover rather than the logo's which will be there anyway. I didn't have the new logo, so I posted a black one. Who cares.

I can't agree more...👍

I do agree that the use of something other than a car for the cover was a great idea. However regarding the PD logo as having minor significants is deluded to me.

Most products I have ever seen have some indication that clearly defines who the manufacturer is. I understand that America doesn't have the PD logo on the front cover, I don't want to be rude, but that is arrr...strange.:odd: The logo of the creators of the game deserves to be put on the front. Well at least that is my oppinion.
Thanks for the pics G.T.Ace.;)

Nomino
Seems like Rusty* has decided to crawl under a rock after that last post regarding the lack of originality in the Nurb cover...
I don't think so, I wrote up a post but the Login prompt screwed it...as a result I lost my post...was not a happy moment.:rolleyes:
Look guys, I know that I don't have a hope...what with all the "Diehard Nurburgring extremist" out there (lol jokes:D:tup:), Nomino has helped me see that although I have seen that particular Nurburg pic alot on the internet, doesn't mean everyone has, so it still might seem original to some. The fact that the creator of the case chose to use that pic over yet another entry of a car, I do see that as its originality. However the lack of the Polyphony Digital logo and the GT logo is obviously not right, the GT logo has been the symbol chosen by PD to represent the Gran Turismo series from the start. Every major Gran Turismo game released (therfore not including demo's and Prologue's) has had the GT logo on it...GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4...I seriously doubt they will remove it for GT5.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So for the sake of this threads integrity and setjur who has made complaints, I will no longer post regarding the issues that I have called into question, I encourage all involved to follow my lead.
We all have differing oppinions, so there will always be something that we all can't agree on, thats just part of being Human.;)👍
Peace,
Rusty, I didn't complain about people questioning the originality of a cover picture, so if you discuss about that here, I'll be glad to read it.
But the logo's discussion I don't like because it's not important to me. For me, it's about the concept of the cover and not the logo's, and some people even haven't got the right logo to put on the cover. It's not worth discussing if a logo should be there or not, I don't see the importance of it. Ofcourse a logo is essential for a cover, but I see this thread rather looking for originality than the appropriate logo.
