Nice pics! They seem to vary in quality, some look good, but some you can tell are just PS2 textures upped in a high resolution. Oh well, better than nothing!

I think the night shots where the headlights draw the most attention are where they are most passable... in most other shots ugly textures and the actual wheel well cutouts are pretty blatent...

Sorry about the sizes, hopefully its ok and hopefully you can see how the standard models look :)

thoughts?

EDIT: i cant get car prices rightt now, i gota head out, so hopefully soon!

take care, enjoy the pics

Thanks they look great! Can you get a pic of the hood vents on the 71 mach 1 and the writing on them so we can see what engine it has 👍

A lot of people complain about picture sizes but it's never bothered me. Also they really don't look too bad. Thank you for sharing with us! I do have to ask though, what exactly were you doing in the C1 Corvette lol.

EDIT: Also until now I thought the Zonda and the LF-A were both premium :(

The LFA and Zonda R are premium, there are also other premium cars amongst the standards, its good to have them as a reference point.

Nice job, the furai's a standard? that's a shame, the car look awesome

Kinda cool to see the tire's detail in the rally photos.

Awesome, the skyline pace car with the light bar is back too.

In that video go to 5.00 then pick a point and put your mouse there, the topography around that area changes.

Sorry but I still think they are staying the same. Basically, the area is very large, and the track never takes up the whole area, it moves around it when randomly generated. For example, look at exactly 5.08, 5.11, 0.49 and 1.15 and all the tracks tend to take place on the same area. Look for the little squiggle line (lol) which helps define the area. Look for defining landmarks in the topography, and you should usually be able to find it in each track, though not always as it may be in a different area and hard to see.

There are many things wrong with the new hot pursuit (I just finished it yesterday), which I will not get into on a gt thread, needless to say that it felt like a pretty bad port with plenty of annoyances and flaws.

On topic: the reason those little flaws (shadows dissapearing, shimmer and pixelation, screen tear , extremely ugly in car shadows etc) dissapoint me is that GT was always the most polished game in the frigging universe.
Gt3 for example : sure some functions were gone from gt2, there were less cars too(though the 'important' cars from gt2 were mostly still there).

But everything that was there was polished to perfection.
The shadows on the tracks were baked into the textures, so they looked silky smooth , the cars looked really great and very consistent in their quality, there were NO graphical glitches or bugs, the shine on the wet tracks in the night stages were of the same consistent polish.
My point is: the game FELT complete, and everything that was there was amazing and the quality was consistent, making it feel like a triple A game.

Kaz's mantra used to be 'if you can't do something right then don't do it at all' (he used to say that about the car damage and rollovers for example).
And while I admire their enthousiasm and ambition to try and add countless new features and details (cockpit views, the shadows in the cockpit, the high quality smoke they were going for, the rain effects, the amount of cars, track editor) , alot of end ended up looking like 'the little engine that just quite couldn't' instead of the little engine that could.

Compromise hangs over the games' presentation like a dark cloud, and it's not something I'm used to seeing from a GT game.

I'm going to use the gt3 shadows example again, sure there were no dynamic shadows cast by the environment but they looked amazing and silky smooth regardless because they were baked, the car shadows were much simpler but also smooth.
Compare that to gt5, you get dynamic shadows, with jaggy edges (sometimes only a little, other times horrible) that pop in and out of view sometimes in replays and during gameplay, distant cars and objects that don't cast shadows at all.
What use are dynamic shadows if they often look worse than their ps2 static counterpart.
Atleast in gt3 they looked consistent and didn't glitch , sawpattern or dissapear to remind you that they are fake.
example : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmoTrOS3Yco&feature=player_embedded#at=17
15-22 seconds in , look at the dashboard and steering wheel shadows.
Who at PD saw that, and said : that looks great lets put that in the game.
Usually you don't get a shadow cast by the wheel at all, and it looks better (apart from the fugly jaggies in this car probably because of the where meshes meet).
Leave the stupid wheel and dashboard shadows out at all then, noone would miss them.

There is a reason why for example a game like ff7 on psx used low poly, stick men like designs for their characters rather than trying to model seperate fingers and stuff only to have their clumsy attempt point out how fake it looks.

So many people here are keen to bash forza's fake-ass damage system where if you hit something your entire car gets scratched up on all sides unrealistically.
These gt5 glitches are no different from that.

Tldr: I miss the consistency and polish from the ps2 games, and would rather not have a feature at all than it having to be half arsed. That is not the gran turismo way.

I understand where you're coming from, but I will gladly sacrifice a few shadow glitches to have a day/night cycle and weather. I know it isn't perfect but to perfect it they would just delay the game again after everyone has waited so long. And if they did that then you would complain that it's taken way too long to make the game. You need to reach a middle ground somewhere.

The LFA and Zonda R are premium, there are also other premium cars amongst the standards, its good to have them as a reference point.

Oh ok great! I'm happy again :)

Thanks woohoo! Everything I needed to see.. well ok not everything but!

The standards look great, they could look a lot worse, some of them do look better than others, like that porsche (RUF) looks good. Woohoo! Countach!

That is all.

Edit : Also, if you see the picture with the standard GNX and the Vette, they both look to have dirt on their tires and on the cars themselves, looks A-OK to me! :)

The standard cars look fine, but I just WISH the 2J was premium :guilty: I mean they had the interior modeld anyway. I wonder if the we'll be able to hear the deafening sound of the snowmobile engines + its V8, or if it will just be the V8 like GT4.

Wow, some of the textures on those standards are worse than their GT4 counterparts. If more than half your cars look like ass, then maybe you shouldn't have shot for 1000 cars.

Not to mention their choices of standard over premiums; we have a friggin Schvimmvagen or whatever as a premium, but not the RUF, the 2J or the Le Mans cars?

GRAN TURISMO 5, STANDARD CARS
Thanks for the pics! IMHO they look fine enough, the only ones that are quite bad looking are the race cars, the sponsors labels are really low def...
BTW the yellowbird.....just amazing....

Sorry to say but standard cars dont look anything close to good in actual gameplay.
I know those pictures were taken during gameplay but when you see it by yourself and not enhanced pictures made by the game you will know what i mean.

In some of the videos the shadows in the cockpit look way too dark. I don't intend to nitpick but the stark contrast was noticeable to me... there was light, then suddenly pitch black. I think it may have been the video quality rather than the game's lighting... at least I hope it was.

Actually y'know I stand by this. Look at the Lambo Gallardo video posted just now... the roof of the cockpit isn't supposed to be painted black. I know there are shadows in there, but car interiors are generally quite light as you drive along. So now I'm just hoping it's due to the harsh sunlight on that track, and others with a more neutral light won't cause such drastic shadows.

There is no way a release party is an announcement... No one really cares about a party they can't attend... BUT the announcement is most likely going to be reviled there.

We've covered this, there is no announcement. The website that said there was one changed the phrase "exciting posts" to "announcement", and the exciting posts were in reference to the launch event.

There are many things wrong with the new hot pursuit (I just finished it yesterday), which I will not get into on a gt thread, needless to say that it felt like a pretty bad port with plenty of annoyances and flaws.

Good thing that's a minority vote then 'cause the reviews are awesome :sly:

The standards look reasonably decent considering they were originally GT4 cars. I like the drivers inside the cars, it's a small detail but one that improves the overall looks of the standard cars. Thank you for the pictures. :)

Lol, I thought I recognized his handle. How'd/What did he get banned for this time?

He had nothing positive to say about GT5. Everything was negative and bashing the game. Saying it was all CG in replays and trailers.

He will be back. He's a pathetic low life that comes back with new accounts to do the same thing over and over and over again.

Could any of you guys get me a couple pics of the Premium R32 GTR? I would really appreciate it. (showcase would be fine if you don't own it.)

This might sound like a strange request, but I'd like pictures of all road signs in SSR5, like this one:

Well, that is putting the standards through the highest form of scrutiny. Taking pics of them in photomode as close as the camera can get. And they actually kinda hold their own. They aren't great, but they aren't that bad either.

And most importantly they will fill out the grid for whichever premium car you want to drive and look fine during the race. And for those of us who want to drive them, they will be there.

@hsoomal Thanks for the pics. 👍

Oh and I've tried to ask you this question a few times, but this forum moves pretty fast. I just wanted to know if all of your cars transferred from GTPSP?

Edit: Thank you for the reply

I can check prices, and I only had 40 cars on my psp so im not sure, i would assume so?

OK, pics are coming now!

Hey man, he replied to you, said that he thought so but only had 40 cars or so on PSP anyway.

It almost seems like there are "standards" within the standards! That McLaren race car looks positively awful but some of the other standards do look half way decent. Such a strange variance of quality here. :ouch:

I'm puzzeld why Kaz would want standard cars in this GT5. The stunning surroundings make them look worse than they really are. Such a shame to include them. I've said this too many times already.

Hmm... The road sign to right said New-Stage.
What do you think this means?
Can't wait to race on that track... also... fighting the urge.... Double racing lanes all the way!.. What does it mean! Woah.... oh my god. lol

*For those that don't get that pun.. that was the double rainbow pun... corny.. I know..

Well check this one if you dare then...

:ill: thankfully it's a dark pic.....

It's true, seems to be some standards better than others, imho racecars (with their labels and sponsors stickers) show more clearly their low def texture

Bay-Side and New-Stage in my opinion are clear references to SSR7 (which resembles the Wangansen, aka Expressway Route B (Bayside). In the new SSR5 just after the final chicane it looks like the road continues before the right turn to the main straight, but it is closed. My suspiction is that that road leads (or at least, is intended to lead) to SSR7, and therefore that at least in theory, a bigger track connecting the two stages might be possible.

It's of course just speculation, but that's just until the game arrives.
A clear video of SSR5, possibly HD and in direct feed, would help though.
One of La Sarthe at 1080p has been already posted...
