Polyphony Digital has finally revealed the official numbers about GT5 sales.

After all data from all markets have been gathered, official numbers are even more fascinating than initial 5 millions number that was circulating media in late December.

As of end of 2010, Gran Turismo 5 has sold in remarkable 6,37 million copies.

Europe leads the way, with almost 4 million games, followed by 1,5 million in USA and 0,6 million in Japan.

Official chart below shows detailed breakdown by territories.

This benchmark pushed the overall series to even more remarkable figure of 63 million games.

Congratulations to Polyphony Digital team and Kazunori Yamauchi.

AGAIN eu outsells US and japan..

Wish they'd stop releasing games over here later than everywhere else.. :P

Nice sales though.. even outsold that warcraft expansion

Go Europe!

As an American, I hope Kaz realizes that the majority of the target market is Europe and that GT6 or DLC adds more European courses and cars. Europe has the most interesting cars and some of the best racing history-let's get more of those into the game.

So even with the huge slant towards Japan and Japanese cars, a paltry 600,000 people bought the game in Japan. Talk about not knowing your market.

Well I think the reason not that many Japanese like the game because you can't beat a X1 in a stock Hachi-Roku
Seriously.

Sold to customers or sold to retailers?

Sorry I really want to clarify it this time :\

Who cares? All the sells for the previous GT games in Sony's chart go by the same standard as GT5 so whether it's shipped or sold, it still did better than Prologue and slightly over half the amount of GT1 and GT4 in only 12 days and now even closer to surpassing GT4.

At this pace, GT5 is going to easily pass GT4 and maybe even GT3. I could see possibly even 20 million lifetime for this game. Every GT game in the US has sold about 3 million lifetime and GT5 is already half way there. It's almost there to matching GT4 in japan also.

600k is pretty big in Japan you know? Not many games get that high there and it's likely to end up at over a million in the end too. Japan is a small market compared to all of Europe and unless it's Monster Hunter or Pokemon, they aren't going to get 4-5 million sells in just that market.

4.000.000 EU sales and then an worse EU version with KW instead of PS (HP)...
4.000.000 EU sales and 1/8 EU cars...

How much longer do they want to ignore the rest of the world, the world is not Japan only...

Maybe so but it still doesn't alter the fact that considerably less people are playing this Japanese slanted game in Japan than elsewhere. You also say it yourself, games like this don't sell big over there so why market the game towards them?

I think they really do need to look at their market more closely and consider including more European cars in future - the ratio of Japanese cars in the game is completely out of sync with their sales figures... still, impressive sales figures indeed :)

True, but it's not like there aren't plenty of good European and American cars. I would like more Euro/American cars in the future though. Bring back Vector! Also more Cadillacs and Pontiacs, but that's a discussion for another thread.

As for the huge amount of Japanese cars, I don't think they really have more Japanese cars than they do European, it's just the Japanese cars have 10 variations of the same car. rofl

I'd like know what was the number of the South American sales.

I've bought my Gt5 from an U.S. store and so did many of my friends.

Anyone worried that GT5 is outsold more then twice by GT3? Those sales numbers for GT5 won't rise that much anymore, maybe they can achieve 7 million copies or maybe even 9million (very optimistic) but that's it. The real big numbers always are achieved in the first few month, not during the whole period. That is a fact. That's how the software market works.
So, 'estimated' 9 million (GT5) against 14million (GT3)?
OK, we also have to consider the hardware sales numbers aswell. I guess at the release of GT3 there were more PS2 out there then PS3 at the time when GT5 came, but not that much. And yes, some GT3 believers went over to the Forza camp, but I guess it's true, GT5 has not sold so well like it's predecessors.
6Million is good number for a PS3 game, actually not a good number compared to older GT games.

listen dude half a world drives japanese cars, maybe now even more, so calm down, as for me I would not mind to have more japanese 90s cars in the game even though I am from europe.

Don't expect the numbers to double at all. Most copies are always sold in the first 2 months and the rest is just peanuts. Realistically, I guess the number will hit 7.5 to almost 8 million copies after five yeas. Very optimistically, 9mill but that's it.

They can boost sales with Add on by the way, like GT5 Spec I, GT5 Spec II and so on.

I wonder what the relationship between hardware sales of the PS3 combined with GT5 at release and sales figures with PS2 and GT3 at release is.
I guess PS2 was selling much better at that time. Could explain those low numbers

Even though Europe had more sells than the US. I am an American and the reason I think it sold less here is the fact that we don't have many pro-am race tracks here besides NASCAR circuits or drag strips. Most people here don't get into circuit racing which to me personally sucks! I would love to have the access to the tracks like Europe has. Just saying

Oh ok dude and half of the world watches takeshi´s castle, maybe even more 👍

Yeah the German version uses KW... I never had to do anything with kw and I don´t want to calculate 67 kw x 1,359622 = 91 PS all day... Why

Um, dude, no offense but you don't know what you're talking about. So first two months and then it is just peanuts? How does that explain how many Wii titles are still in the top 10 lists after a year of being out? How does that explain Uncharted 2 doing about 2 million the first two months but now it is at over 5 million?

First of all GT3 got to that nearly 15 million in about 10 YEARS. It sold well at first but it kept on selling throughout the years, it did not do those 15 million in the first few months. It was also heavily bundled in the US.

Second of all the PS3 userbase is much larger than the PS2 userbase was when GT3 came out. The userbase does not matter, see how GT4 sold less when it had over 100 million PS2s sold? Albeit GT3 had much more time and a whole console's lifetime to sell as opposed to GT4.

Change the language on your PS3 and you'll get different units of measurement. :dunce:

Because kW is the official measurement, and officially PS is archaic, since we use the metric system in the EU..

Those are some pretty fantastic sales there and it represent the quality of the game.

As for overall sales, I think it won't end up being the worst-selling main Gran Turismo game. The game only had three months to generate sales whereas previous titles had six to ten years to achieve what they got. If it has a long stretch, it'll end up outselling all but maybe Gran Turismo 3.

I don't see why some people are saying GT has lost its sales ability. it took GT4 over two years to break 8 mil if I remember correctly. GT5 hasn't even started being bundled with PS3 yet, nor has it hit greatest hits status yet. GT has tremendous legs all of the games that sell this massive usually do. GT5 has outsold every Forza game combined lol.
