Yes I do see myself as hardcore which is exactly my point. I have many friends who are also hardcore racing fans and many of these are also unhappy with GT5. So if us hardcore fans are unhappy then the average gamer is going to be even more unhappy with the gameplay on GT5.

The gameplay is boring, stale and outdated and the modern average gamer has come to expect alot more these days especially with regards to online features. Now playing video games is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby and yet GT5 feels more like a chore. Sorry but grind and collecting cars and the boring B Spec mode doesn't make enjoyable gameplay.

Im fortunate enough to have played video games since the 1980s and I have witnessed a massive change in the direction of gaming especially since 2005. Nowadays online has become the most important feature and games such as TDU 1&2, Forza 2/3 have shown the way when it comes to online features. All of these games have single player leaderboards including friends leaderboards. Now GT5 wasn't released with any leaderboards and in this day and age that is just pathetic.

If GT5 had been released in the 1990s or early 2000s then I would of loved the gameplay because I didn't know any different. However the racing games i've mentioned have shown the way and the days of just grinding in single player are well and truely over. Only those who are stuck in the past continue to enjoy doing this.

Mark my words the sales of GT6 will be much lower because Kaz/PD have made an epic cock up with GT5 because the gameplay is outdated. You carry on running A Spec events hundreds of times for a pityful amount of credits and I shall enjoy playing other racing games that don't feel like a chore.

I will just add that the reason im so angry is because I spent a fortune for GT5 as I especially enjoyed GT5P. I thought GT5 would be a bigger, better version of GT5P and yet in some ways I believe GT5P is a better game. At least this had matchmaking servers and time trial leaderboards for every car.
Well, reading this, it's a clear statement that you're not representative of the gaming community as a whole. Not saying this in an insulting fashion at all, just saying that the vast majority aren't on GT Planet, the vast majority of GT players had no real expectations of the game, and a lot (I mean a lot) of gamers haven't been playing since the 80's.

Your expectations come as a long-time fan of the series, who rabidly consumed every piec of information about the game's upcoming release, and set your expectations accordingly. Just because we're surrounded by like-minded people on a bulletin board doesn't make this group representative.

In fact, I'd contend that this group contains the game's harshest critics because of a lack of managed expectations, not because the game is as horrible as a few people say it is.

You mention how angry you are. Angry doesn't happen because you picked up a cool looking game without really knowing what it was. Angry happens because of years of anticipation and expectation, reading and waiting, disappontments after delays, and expectations weren't met (for you). Most people who buy this title aren't even aware that there was even one delay, and they simply don't have the frustrations packed behind them the way a die-hard fan does. I didn't have years of expectations, and I'm enjoying this game immensely. The things you hate, I really like, and I suspect there are many more of us than we might think from the posts on the boards.

So even with the huge slant towards Japan and Japanese cars, a paltry 600,000 people bought the game in Japan. Talk about not knowing your market.

The rest of the Japanese people are actually racing in real-life, whether it be on the touge or on the track.

I agree 110%. Especially the last paragraph. Honestly, im slightly in that group just because i have played every GT. I love the game, and didnt understand how people could be so harsh about it when it first came out. I only have one complaint, and thats lack of events compared to GT4. Im starting to get a tad bored of the game. You have no idea how long i played GT4 and i bought the game right when it came out also. I cant believe im losing interest in GT5 already. The seasonal events get me to play it once or twice a week the last couple weeks otherwise i was playing the game everyday almost. Again, im not trying to be negative at all and congrats to PD for the awesome sales figures! Also thanks to the OP for bringing the information to the board!

.
You have completely missed the point im making.

The reason im angry is nothing to do with my expectations being too high. Im angry because some of the most basic features are missing from the game. As GT5P had time trial leaderboards for each car then I feel I was right in assuming GT5 would also have leaderboards. However much you defend GT5 the lack of leaderboards in indefensible. Even arcade games such as NFS hot pursuit had leaderboards.

So you understand let me explain how I used to play racing games prior to online gaming. Back in those days I would carry on replaying events for credits so I could buy all the cars and complete single player. Once I had done this I would hotlap in each car and keep a record of my laptimes on a piece of paper.

Now let me explain how I play racing games since Forza was released. As above I would replay events to gain credits to purchase all the cars. However the big difference is whilst I was replaying events I would also be competiting against my friends overall times. As Forza 2 had career leaderboards it was great fun having to be consistently fast for x amount of laps. At no stage did replaying the events feel like a chore because my motivation was to beat some of my friends times and see how I ranked against the world. I would also do this on games such as TDU 1 and the recently released TDU 2 has career leaderboards for every event.

Moving back to GT5 and the reason A Spec feels such a chore is due to a couple of reasons. Firstly their is a shortage of A Spec events but also no leaderboards for each event. If GT5 A Spec had leaderboards then I would have more motivation to keep replaying the events.

Like I say GT5 gameplay is stale and outdated.

Agree.

Europe is the market, followed by USA. So, PD give more European cars, and more american cars (i don't like them very much, but...) and forgive every little mod of a skyline.

PD: I love a few japanese cars, of course. But We don't need all versions... just the most representatives...

I was also perplexed as to why GT5 didn't ship with the Performance Points (PP) system considering it was in GT5: Prologue. However, I am very pleased it has been added via patch 1.06. I am fairly certain that PD will add leaderboards to GT5. I'm sure they're working on it. I recall someone here did the math once - leaderboards are not so straightforward when you have 1000+ cars that can be modified or stock, 70 + different tracks and over 6 million users.
