Are we even expecting the silhouettes this weekend? Because if there will be an april update, next week's thursday would be the only chance for it.
Silhouttes can be dropped the same week as the update it has happen before.
There might not be an update but we have to wait and see. I rather have them skip a month and make something bigger for may instead, if thats really the case

Big or small or regular update won’t be enough. It’ll wear off and people will be right back to complaining one, two or three cars a month and a few events don’t cut it.

I'm pretty sure there will be no update this month, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure in the past they have skipped months when they're running the GTWS qualifiers. That doesn't mean the month after will have any more content though because eSports slows the game development with no benefit for the vast majority of players.

Edit: Ignore me, it seems I have bad memory and am making things up!

Update Patterns During GTWS Qualifiers

  • 2022:
    • GTWS qualifiers occurred in the spring and fall.
    • Despite this, updates were released in April (1.11), June (1.17), and September (1.23), introducing new cars, tracks, and features.

  • 2023:
    • Updates were released in March (1.30), May (1.33), and August (1.37), aligning with GTWS activities.

  • 2024:
    • Updates continued in April (1.45), May (1.47), and August (1.50), coinciding with GTWS events.

  • 2025:
    • The GTWS 2025 qualifiers began on April 2 and are ongoing. Given the established pattern, it’s plausible that an update could be released during this period.

Research time!:
  • 2024: April 2024 (3 cars) was mid-Nations Cup qualifying. May 2024 (5 cars) was immediately after Manufacturers ended (the silhouettes would have been before the last round).
  • 2023: May 2023 (3 cars) was towards the end of Nations qualifying, June 2023 (3 cars) was mid-Manufacturers Cup qualifying. There was no July update following but the August update (4 cars, the weird Corolla/Himedic pre-load one) was early in the month.
  • 2022: There was a content update every month in 2022, so it definitely would have intersected, the specifics don't really matter here so I won't spend time on it.
So in the GT7 era they haven't tried to avoid qualifiers. I agree they will skip in this case though - they've already had the wheel issue so they likely don't want to risk an issue for Nations as well, and we haven't had the social media car posts either.

Thanks for the clarification, I'm sure they had skipped before but that might've been for the actual finals when the staff are travelling or back on GT Sport, I'm old and it all blends together!

If we do get a content update this month or in May I can see it being another 3 car affair:
  • One to add to a collection we already have - I will go for the Honda Civic since they've slowly been adding all the generations and it be the 2001 Type-R that hasn't been seen since GT6 to fit the hot hatch brief
  • A race car - My first thought was a early 00s F1 car since they're adding a range of those from each decade, I was thinking a fictional version like they did with the F3500-A but slightly more left field the Honda RA106 which would go with the RA272 and MP4/4 as historically important cars for Honda. But it's not been long since we had that 90s car so I can see them going for a different angle and it being a Gr3 to please the sport mode players, PD obviously have a good relationship with Emil Frey Racing so I think their current car, the Ferrari 296 GT3 would be the most logical fit to go alongside the Huracan and Lexus with their liveries in game.
  • The final car will be something nobody expected similar to the Unimog and Kangoo, even a Honda Super Cub wouldn't surprise me now!

They can still show the media posts between now and April 25(Unimog was the final post on March 25). Adding an update on the following Tuesday. We got the PSVR2 Compatibility update February 21, 2023 on a Tuesday.

Well, we’ll see.

Agreed, didn‘t Kaz release the silhouettes for last month’s update on a Monday too?

I don't think there'll be an update this month, but PD demonstrably don't care about avoiding Golden Week - with the exception of 2021, there has been a content update at the end of April to the then-current GT game every year since 2018.
Ok thanks, I wasn't checking all

By the way, the IG page hasn't dropped any post about any of the cars from last update, therefore I wouldn't expect the next update to drop before half May

Silhouettes can be the week of update - notably the Super Formula update posted them on a Tuesday, and the update that had the Afeela didn't post them until the Wednesday - we actually got the trailer before the silhouettes that month.

However, there's so much pointing towards no update this particular month that I wouldn't be holding out hope.

I’m not holding out hope either. I can understand the logic of not wanting to implement certain adjustments of gameplay before Golden Week. Then again, PD don’t need to post any media images of the latest update cars anyway. It wasn’t always that way. They’ve been switching things up throughout updates. Remember, we got the interactive silhouettes with the laser scanning and exhaust notes. Wether we do or don’t get an update:

You mean Kazunori don't give a damn, when a huge rival makes launch to playstation?
Polyphony Digital follows its own path and does not directly observe what other "rivals" ("game with cars in" is not necessarily a rival; FH5 is a totally different approach) are doing at any given point. One should not expect a reaction or response to any other title launching or having big updates.

Unless everybody stops playing GT and plays Forza instead. I'm pretty sure there'd be a reaction then.

I think Kaz just doesn't take too much notice of what other developers are doing. He's got his own vision and that's it. He'll probably continue giving out weird updates like ambulances, Unimogs etc 😂
Unironically yes, for better or worse.

And, on a similar basis, I imagine that if every copy of Gran Turismo turned into a corned beef sculpture of Liberace unless paired with a copy of Monster Jam Steel Titans he might take a look too.

However the reality is that what little customer crossover there is between any Forza title - particularly Horizon, which is not aiming at the same thing at all - and any Gran Turismo title is all-but meaningless, in sales terms and especially to PD. We never see any kind of "[Game X] is launching/having a major update so GT will do a big thing the same month" except by coincidence.

Here's a calendar since GT7 launched:

March 2022 - GT7 launches
July 2022 - FH5 HW update; GT7 has three-car content update (newest car is from 1987)
November 2022 - NFSU launches; GT7 has three-car content update... AND ROAD ATLANTA!
March 2023 - FH5 RA update; GT7 has five-car content update including the Toyota Alphard
September 2023 - The Crew Motorfest launches; GT7 has a three-car (two-Honda) update
October 2023 - FM(23) launches; GT7 has no content update of any kind
September 2024 - TDUSC launches; GT7 has no content update of any kind (for the second successive month)
January 2025 - ACE (EA) launches; GT7 has four-car content update including the Toyota C-HR

I'm sure that there are other games I could have put in there, I just ran out of any particular recollection.

Of course people have a habit of ignoring or massaging data that doesn't fit, so Spec II will be a November response to October's FM23, and the PSVR2/Sophy/Grand Valley February update was a presponse to FH5's Rally Adventure in March, but that requires pretending that these weren't known about six months in advance and yet somehow missed the actual date both times - and to either side. But people will delude themselves into anything, even perhaps thinking that PD perceive NFSU as a rival and released Road Atlanta to head it off.

FH5 will launch on PS5, and GT7 will either have no update (more likely right now) or a regular three/four-car update because that's what their plan is.

I'm depressed seeing so many people say that an April update is unlikely because I've been eagerly awaiting the silhouettes to drop this week. That said, should we see three cars, my guess is the C8 Z06, the 720s, and the EV Ford Supervan.
