Gran Turismo 7 Custom Race thread

Hi all, I've got a few questions regarding custom cars (single player only) which I couldn't get answered using the search thread function, or on which I found inconsistent answers.

  1. Do opponents make use of Nitro / KERS / DRS if equipped with (I suspect no)?

  2. What setup do garage car opponents use (without BoP)? The last selected / active configuration? Or stock? Or anything else?

Also I've found inconsistent information about what tires are being used. I've experienced that I could give an opponent garage car heavy rain tires but it still will have almost no grip in heavy rain like those cars I've equipped with conform or sport tires.

  3. Similarly: Do (garage) opponents only pit to change tires if I bought the corresponding tires (e.g. change from race hard to wet when it rains only when I bought them wet tires)? And do they pit at all only if tire wear and/or fuel consumption is activated?

  4. I don't see the weather option to select surface wetness at start of race - has this been removed?

  5. Does Boost effect only opponents or me as well (I wouldn't have experienced the latter that's why I'm asking)?

  6. What's the difference (in effect) between boost and slipstream? Just distance?

Thanks in advance!
If they have KERS or DRS they will use it, I would guess...(I usually don't race against such cars in custom races)
I never ever used any nitro in GT, so I cannot answer this question...

Garage cars always use the latest selectet configuration, the one exception from that rule are tires

Cars will always use there default tires unless you have equipped them with RH tires, then they will use RHs!
Comfort or Sport Tires should behave similar to rain tires as long the surface wetness is in the top 2 tiers...

I think, race cars change racing tires even if you haven't bought them those tires, while road cars don't do that(if someone knows that better, please correct me on that!)

They only pit when tire wear and/or fuel consumption is activated(there would be no use for pitting, when those are not activatet...)

I think the possibility for surface wetness has been removes or is hidden so well, that I cannot find it anymore(I was asking myself the same question before... )

I think, boost effects all cars in the race including your car.

Thank you very much!

Can someone confirm this (plus what happens with nitro)?

Hmm, so RH is the only exception to default tires? And no wet tires by default, so this means it's not possible to make a "fair" heavy rain custom race (ie. where I use W tires and the opponents do so as well)?

Again, can somebody confirm?

Well, there would be a use for pitting in order to change tires from "dry" to "wet". But ok.

And what about slipstream? Difference between the two?

I don't know how it is with customized road cars, but race cars will switch to R pr IM tires when it is starting to rain...so "fair" rain races are at least possible with race cars...(my experience: AI tire strategies are better in custom races as compared to the WTC 700 race at Sarthe)

Another way to have a "fair" heavy rain race is a race with cars that have comfort or sport tires per default...

I always use realistic slipstream in custom races, so i cannot help you with that one...

1. Not sure.
2. If it one of your garage cars, it will have the last setting it was used with. If you had it maximum speed it will use it. If you adjusted the car prior to have low gears and no speed and then you select it for opponent car it will be as slow as it's setting .
3. Not sure. But will pit if needs fuel...
4. Don't know.
5. Boost affects all cars in race.
6. Not sure.

1: I don't believe so.

2: The current configuration for that car.

3: I believe they will use wet tyres even if you haven't bought them.

4: Yes, unfortunately. Not sure why but maybe they thought it wasn't realistic with sunny weather? It can happen IRL after a shower though so probably not.

5: Don't know for sure but I imagine it does. It doesn't specify AI cars or player cars as the recipient of the boost.

6: If boost works the same way it did in GT6 then it gives you more power and more grip. Boost Weak is the way to go, Boost Strong seems somehow weaker and doesn't keep the pack close enough.

I believe the slipstream was adjusted way back in GT Sport. So, probably still works the same way due to distance behind another car. Obviously on straights, but can mainly notice at Daytona when on the banking as to where the slipstream angle is and how far away.

Opponents only, I'm pretty sure of that. I'm not particularly fast, but I'm very consistent. If I had been 20s a lap faster while being at the back of the field, I would have noticed it. Happy hour is a thing though.

Many thanks guys for your answers! :)

One more question, is there a confirmed bug so that the game tends to crash when trying to save custom race settings in the current version? Cause when I load saved settings, I can change and immediately save them again, but when I execute a race, then change some settings and try to save them again the game hangs before I can enter a settings name (on PS4) :(
