I think it does a good job explaining the basics. Though, it should also have an optional Safety Car leading players around a lap.
The tracks are basic enough, but technical enough for beginners. Look at how many difficult tracks there are in GT7. Just to get the demo users to click Purchase GT7, after seeing how much is going on when watching that final movie.

Would be good to read the experience from a first to the franchise player.

We'll see if the demo pushes sales or not or if it just turns out to be an interesting curio.

But something I think we can definitely say does push sales is "being half price", like in the current sale. The game's doing really well on the PS store right now (sorted by revenue not units), especially in Europe:

For a near 3 year old game in a kind of niche genre, those are frankly amazing numbers.

I wouldn’t say racing games are kind of niche. Serious sim racing and esports are niche, but racing games have always been mainstream. 30 years ago it was almost mandatory for public venues to install arcade machines playing Sega Rally.

I think GT7 keeps up momentum because it’s the default racing game choice for most Playstation owners. I know people who aren’t much into racing, but they purchased GT7 because it’s considered a must have. This suggests that Gran Turismo’s brand is stronger than the appeal of the racing genre. Also, PD is always at the forefront of providing some of the best tech demonstrations for Sony’s latest hardware. Very relevant now with PS5 Pro being all new. Then we also have all the free content updates which help to ensure that people are constantly getting reminded of Gran Turismo’s existence. Finally, it’s rewarding for both simple pick up to play and diving deep into tuning etc. It’s a timeless concept appealing to all types of players, and GT7 is full of cars lots of people can relate to in some capacity. I’m honestly not amazed if it’s still selling well after almost three years.

How do you know about updates if you don't already own the game or follow specific news about it ?

Finished the demo just now.

Don’t think it does a great job of showcasing the game.
Too little focus on racing and too much focus on everything else.

I also don’t think the car or track selection is great.

Anyway - completing the demo gets you all 18 demo cars for free in the main game.
I have almost all the cars. Would those 18 Demo cars be in addition to my current lineup? Thanks.

Great missed oportunity for a new car in gt7. No better way to entice people to play the demo, than adding a new car (not in gt7) as a reward in gt7 for completing the demo 100%.
It already gives a load of new cars - for the people it's aimed at.

They probably didn't even consider people playing a demo of a game they already have - because that's just weird.

18 zero mileage cars for a few hours work, that can be sold for close to Cr2m, I think a lot of existing players will see that as 'for them'.
Sure but PD did not make it for us.

And I am not sure how many think it is important to have 0 mileage cars 😅 outside of a small niche of weird folks like here.

The mileage thing I can understand - wanting to see exactly how much you’ve driven each car. In this scenario it’s PD who are weird with their fake mileage used car lot.

I am 200% on that, in GTS we had "distance driven".

But right now, for all the zero mileage cars I can win with the demo, I already have the same one with a certain initial mileage + the distance I've driven it, so in the end I'll never now either. Unless they put back "distance driven.

no new championchips or endurance races.
A game franchise that has had a lot of that since the beginning (in one form or another) I find it odd they haven’t added more of that myself.

If GT7 had it, MFGT should too. GT7 doesn’t, so it wouldn’t make sense MFGT to have it. Would be nice though. 👍🏻
The content update trailers should be in plain sight for people who follow Playstation on platforms like YouTube.
It is though. But if you have many you follow in your feed it doesn’t necessarily show on top.

Should be both. A car irl has mileage. Makes sense it does in GT. But irl you can also do a secondary(hell most cars have A and B trip counters + maybe one more. Mine has three, anyway) to show how much you have driven since you bought it.

Thats why its a missed opportunity. You highlighted the biggest issue of this demo. Its for people outside of the gt. Should have also given the community something.
Imagine how the community would react if, in the place of that red countach that most of us already have, there was a surprise: a bugatti eb110. A lot would go nuts.
Because the demo is not for people who already own the game 😅
Why would the introduction of a new car change that?

There is in general 4-5 years between each release, and why would that be any different now. I dont see it release any later than late 2027 witch would be almost a 6 years gap.
And not expecting them to accomplish/add much within 4-5 years with how slow their progression is.

It may not even be enough with how you'd be racing against crappy AI most of the time.

GT7 also seems to be about holding hands for GT newcomers in general.

public venues to install arcade machines playing Sega Rally.
They are much more likely to attract a curious person who hasnt yet touched any arcare game than a Street Figher machine would have been. And that means they are much more likely to create a stronger customer base than a place with no Sega Rally machine.

Sony will be happy if that's the measurement of success for a game.
Meanwhile I know that at least my my brother, two close friends and two colleagues own the game but didn't unlock the gt mode. That's 5 sales, but 0 players.

That's 5 sales, but 0 players.
Looking at some trophies of other games, I dont think that is uncommon at all.
For a game with just initial purchase cost, that basically is the ideal customer: all payed and no further cost inflicted by the gamer.

Good for Polyphony that the main game doesn't use a free-to-play live service model in that case, since that relies on continued engagement rather than an upfront payment for success

Curious what the "..will allow you to obtain special cars." line is about when they give you the passport.

As is, I don't think I'll bother with it. I already have multiples of like every car in the demo. The value of selling them isn't worth the time. I could just do one Spa race and be good.

Oh well. Back to waiting on the trickle of patch content.

I dont think it would change the success of the game too much.
Just wave a million credits each week and players stick to the game for no other reason but earning that reward ...

They add about the same as other devs does for their titles within 4-5 years, not slower or faster than anyone else,

It has less cars than some of its competetion, but a lot of that have to do with pd putting more attention to detail than anyone on the market, that will have cost on the quantity,

And given pd has already hold back cars they could release a lot of new cars for the next game if it releases in 2027, they release like 30-35 cars on average for gt7 each year and they are cabable of making 60 cars per year,

They could make more than enough stuff for the next title to 2027, all depends on pd and Sony,

There is no reason to belive it will take longer than that for them to put out the next title,

A first reveal on the next title is proably not even to far off at this point.
