“March 4th release seems to be happening!”

Still talking as if this event had anything to do with the game being released on time.

Or shall we continue being the complete opposite of even slightly discerning about where we take our news from?
How is he backpedalling?

He reported accurately that the event was cancelled short notice and now he is reporting the new date.

I don´t know why he gets you guys so angry. He´s a known and credible industry insider who often leaks stuff like this on his twitter.

The lack of any specific dynamic time/weather trailer at this point is a bit frustrating, must mean there's not going to be that wow factor, with GT5 there was video showcasing it.
GT5 Dynamic Weather System Trailer

With this game being closely base on GT Sport, reusing most it's assets, AI, tracks, cars, HUD etc., being more of a PS4 game would be hard to image it being delayed.

I would take a tweet of absolute conjecture speculating about a change in release date only just about a month away as something that would reduce one's credibility, but I suppose that's up to you.

For my personal part, I think Twitter is a cesspool and the fact it's become inseperable from any sort of PR campaign, be it selling a video game or trying to become a world leader, to be a deeply, deeply regrettable state of affairs. People entirely tangential to the actual product at hand can just come screaming out of the ether with any half formed theory and if it gains traction it takes a couple of days of furrowed brows before people will believe how ridiculously unrealistic it is.

If "industry insider game news leaker" is a valid profession, please stop the planet and let me off.

They specifically have said the AI has been revised. Does every single feature need its own trailer? We will all get to experience the game soon enough.

There's still time for a dynamic weather trailer.

I don´t get how your general feelings towards Twitter have anything to do with that, but you do you.
I also don´t get what you´re getting at with the "valid profession" part.

-Tom repordet accurately that the event was cancelled short notice.
-He said the last time that happened it resulted in a delay. (true)
-He now reports accurately that a new date for the event was given.

Be cool.

Yes! Yes they do. Especially considering that AI is an important part of the campaign that they are trumpeting in 95% of the marketing material, it would be nice to know that the AI they have 'revised' isn't the same rolling chicane crap they have pushed out since GT5.

Unfortunately, until we see it in action, I am more inclined to believe that it hasn't changed because Polyphony have no desire to unless the chorus of complaints gets too loud to sweep under the rug.

At what point during that process was it necessary for him to speculate about the release date? There's clearly no precedent for it based on the most recent official GT media (and I'm not sure what the previous time you're referring to is)... He's only done that to put more eyes on a tweet. No one cares as much about a media event in Asia compared to news on the release date, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Yes, my thoughts on twitter as a platform were a tangent, hence I started the paragraph with "for my personal part...".

I'll be cool when people stop going in dumb circles and empowering hype beasts with no intrinsic value to the marketing of the game.

How do we know it's "accurately"? He's the only person to have talked about it at all as far as I can see, so all we know is that an event only he talked about as happening then didn't happen according to... also him. And now, also according to him, there's a new date for it to happen.

You seem to think you get paid per Tweet and that´s how the business works? Let me tell you that´s not how this goes.

As I said before there actually was precedent for Sony cancelling a preview event short notice that resulted in a delay.
And that´s all he said.
You guys drew your own conclusions from that and got angry. Sorry bout that. Talk about shooting the messenger :D

I also did not know you´re not allowed to speculate on Twitter?

The invited people are under NDA - Tom is not invited. It´s been confirmed on ERA.

Some people may buy games blindly, or almost blindly, but some of us do want to actually see more of it before parting with our cash. One lap on a track doesn't tell us how career mode works.

So yes, if PD want us to buy the game at launch they really need to be showing us why we should do so.

I don't get why people immediately jumped to the conclusion that the release date ever changed in the first place. The last piece of official media, not some random twit on Twitter, stated that the game is still releasing on March 4th. If the release date were to change, I'd be pretty sure that PlayStation would correct the information as well as informing everyone of a changed date.

Seeing the latest trailers, the AI might have been tweaked, but not overhauled, chase the rabbit/single file racing is still in place, well hope at this point what's seen in the trailers is not place holder.

With the game being released in just 6 weeks or so - typically more and more trailers/teasers/stills (images) and other general information may get released then the whole waiting to March would have more substance.

There's a difference between open speculation (fine, healthy, love it, do it all you like) and presenting speculation as informed fact (shady, misleading, what's even really the point?)

You still haven't pointed me to the precedent you've mentioned twice, and I now quote the original tweet verbatim - "...has been delayed by Sony and a new date hasn't been given or an explanation as to why.

A tad concerning as the game is due to launch on March 4th."

It's plain as day that last clause is extremely leading. He knows the best way to push this tweet is to tie it to a delay rumour, and that's utterly baseless, and since people will read it who have less scathing scepticism in their heart than I do and take it as truth, it's dishonest and manipulative.

It serves him because it's bound to be a high traffic tweet - if you're naive enough to think, in the modern world, a very high traffic tweet isn't something someone in the journalistic sphere would want, I'm not sure what to tell you really.

Perhaps more people would respect him as much as you do if he wasn't prepared to undermine his credibility massively to that end.

No where did he insinuate people get paid per tweet, so not sure why you brought it up unless you are trying to make up an argument to win. There is no precedent that the canceled event means a delay, there is currently a pandemic, that is a lot more likely the reason for the event being canceled. Any other assumption would be foolish.

Watch the trailers again. You definitely see the AI attempt overtakes on each other.

Jesus you guys...

TLOU2, he said as much in his tweet. The one where he clarifies this is still up btw.

Ah I see, he was referring to it in that tweet where he neither mentions any other event or TLOU2 at all - don't at all see how I didn't manage to infer that!

I haven't read anything that came across like scrabbling for grip on loose stones quite like that tweet for a while - there's more butt covering going on here than in a pelvic fracture ward.

So if you didn´t see the tweet in the first place - what are you getting angry at then? That he says that a short notice cancellaton of an event without any reason given is "a tad concerning"?

I think that´s an absolutly fair thing to say.
