Just like how doing chores is technically being productive, while not achieving anything of note. It's hardly real progression if you're just getting boring stuff out of the way to get to the races you actually want to compete in. Why not make the game challenging (by Gran Turismo standards) from the start, for people who want that challenge?
Exactly, that's the whole point of user choice and what I thought we were getting. Give me your hardest AI on every event from the very start if I want it. Pretty simple concept that other games manage.

I'm not just thinking of myself here either. With those fixed four chili difficulty events the slower people may never going to be able to beat it, because you won't let them choose a lower difficulty. Unless there really are two settings and people can enter the 4 chili race then turn down the AI to beginner in another menu. Which makes no sense, but well, that's what people are saying.

Reviewers typically have 'press sessions' for multiplayer and the like to test some functionality out. I imagine Sony/PD rolled something like that out to help with the process🤞
Those were LAN-based and run in the same room 'though weren't they?

Reviewers scattered all over the world would be a different proposition wouldn't it, hence my "closed-access"-to-the-servers question.

Thanks for answering man.

I'd suggest it's not really progression if the last race you play is as easy/hard as the first... but I am just speculating on the mechanics of it.

That's how progression is in real life though, broadly speaking. You will get thrashed in a kart race or Ginetta Junior race if you're not up to speed just as much as you will if you get to F1 and you're still not quick.

The progression as you know comes from getting to race in faster cars and compete and win more prestigious championships. That aspect already exists in GT, so I don't see the need to also tie the difficulty into progression, especially if you're going to offer what appears to be a global difficulty settings.

Perhaps there's 'windows' when they open the servers 🤔. We're not lucky enough to know! 😂

i have 1300hours on gts and i promise you it's not different than at launch

Assetto Corsa do provide more freedom on shifting gear but GTS require a small timing

i could show you a recent video of me powershifting with the e92 as proof xD

and also maybe your clutch doesn't press completely
I don’t think I said they changed it with gts, if I did my mistake. But iirc this was something they did back in GT5 or GT6 and it has been more or less the same since.

AC definitely is more realistic when it comes to manual and clutch. The timing needed for GTS is silly. It makes no sense to have it like this if Kaz is all about preserving car culture and whatnot.

Liking what I’m seeing so far, seems the AI difficulty gets ramped up a fair bit with progress, there is hope! And the daily workload car thingy has at least been toned down, even if prize cars still being unsellable is a bit of a downer.
Gonna savour this game, not rush through, use the early easy bit as an opportunity to finally make a permanent switch to cockpit view - mostly been a hood cam driver to now, those old interiors just looked really ropey, but recently dabbled with cockpits in GTS and they’re a lot better quality for the most part, I just have to get used to them - though it’s important to choose cars carefully because some have such poor cockpit visibility compared to others.
If any regular cockpit drivers here have recommendations for cars with good views, pls let me have them. Also, any to avoid.
Depends on, how many of these stuff will be there.

Races like this though also had (4) chilis on the selection.

The hype is real. It really does seem to be shaping up as the best GT in recent memory, warts and all.

GT5 was extremely disappointing in a myriad of ways after a very long wait with 6 being too little way too late, they nearly killed the franchise for me. Sport was amazing in its technical aspect: physics, sound and online were what I always wanted from GT, but it unfortunately felt like a game between a prologue and a full GT. It took many years, but it looks like we're finally coming back home!
Ironically, GT7 is technically released in a similar time as GT6 that is, GT6 is released on PS3 when PS4 is already released. GT7 is released as a cross gen on PS4 when PS5 is already released.

So there are THREE different difficultly settings, one fixed and two user chosen? That seems rather confusing.

So I can enter a fixed easy difficulty race with hard chili AI selected in one menu and beginner AI selected in another?

Surely there is some level of misunderstanding and some of these settings only affect custom/arcade because otherwise it sounds bonkers.
This is confusing for me as well. I can only imagine that difficulty options that you can select from the menu apply only for the GT cafe challenges.

But this won't be applied to the races outside "GT cafe" like those with their own spicy levels. Difficulty on these events will be fixed and reflected with up to 5 spicy levels.

Yes I guess that makes sense, hence the "some other races are excluded". But that means that a bunch of races are still fixed difficulty, which isn't great.

Then what about this supposed other selection where professional is the highest? That one must be custom race/arcade only, surely? Like the past games. Does anyone have a screenshot/video of that one?

IIRC in Arcade Race mode I saw at least 6 or 7 start options.

Different flavours of rolling and of course grid.

Might've been Arcade Race's custom mode.

You can also adjust the difficulty level in race settings.

He is speaking too fast for me to understand. Can someone translate the obvious fluff? Because I'll take anything I can get.
Not much there. He started playing Gran Turismo at 4 years old with GT3, remembers the first time he beat his father in the game (in Trial Mountain). Plays the game every week. Favourite track in the game is Tsukuba. He will later do Twitch streams of the game with guests (maybe even YOU!), and even post time trial challenges (no word on if it's gonna be in-game or just posted on social media).

I doubt it runs at anything less than what Sport runs at.
Well actually with the dynamic weather and other extra stuff I wouldn't be surprised if it runs at a little bit less than 1080p on a base PS4, but certainly not as low as 720p. Somewhere around 900p seems quite common for other games. It may even be dynamic.

But we'll have to wait for the nerds at Digital Foundry to find that out, certainly these screenshots can't tell us anything.
