Anyone looking for a similar type racing game should check out Ride 4. Basically the tourist trophy 2 we'll never get.

Figures include all the released DLC. Pretty sure the game and season pass are on offer right now on PS Store. Well worth your time.

I would add Project Cars 2 to that list, if you want something a bit more simracing style, but still a motorsport game. I would even call it the simracing version of Gran Turismo. Especially if you have all the DLCs like me 🏁

But I know This is a worst case scenario for game developers. No one who spent years making this game wants to see it currently unplayable.

The current decision to not speak publically about it is disappointing but I won’t just assume that it must mean They don’t care about the game. In fact I refuse to believe that.
they had a very simple option to not lock basically the entire game behind a server connection. As far as I'm concerned PD deserve the ongoing connectivity issues and mass refunds from people that were excited for the first proper GT game in a decade

Update 1.08 is now live on PS5!
Can confirm!

Edit: Well,

"The 403 error specifically occurs when a user tries to access something that they don't have access to."
Strange.

Edit again: it works now

Get your poop reactions ready, I'm about to say something different from "GT7 is terrible and PD are the worst company ever".
While it definitely looks like it, and makes sense to think this way, the current awful game's economy may not be caused by greed and desire to sell more MTX. Let's not forget how PD are well-known for doing weird game design decisions which often can be seen as annoying or unneccessary by most players. I think this can be one of those, just PD trying to make that car collecting thing more serious by making it harder to buy cars. It is definitely not the best way for sure, but I don't think it's impossible.
Though, game's economy is ruined either way and should be fixed, it's fine to not be able to buy the car you really want the first time it appears in Legendary Cars, but it's not fine when you have to grind to simply upgrade your car. Payments should be higher, prices (at least for parts) should be lower. There should be more races/events added in singleplayer (I know it's coming in the next updates), so you earn more money just by playing the game rather than grinding one race. Maybe lock some cars and parts behind collector's level or other progression stuff instead of just prices. Add endurance races and have some cars to be unlocked only if you complete those, that would be very cool I think. A lot of stuff would be better than what they did. All this, of course, if they actually didn't mean to just boost MTX.

It's the first Ride game that's given me the TT feel with regards to how pleasant the handling model is, too. Really pleased I went for it in the sale after 2 and especially 3 disappointed me.

Being a multiplayer guy in almost all my games I've played for years/decades, it's disappointing but it happens. You accept that because it's the nature of the beast. If a game is not working online, I ain't playing the game until it is. That's made it easy for me to turn a blind eye to the always online, so to speak.

But if I was a single player guy I'd be absolutely furious over this because it needlessly affects them. I have yet to see one single good reason or benefit as to why the whole experience needs to be behind this extra hurdle. In a way (although frustrating now for single players) this is a good thing because it puts the spotlight firmly on this matter for everybody and the heat on the people who thought it was a good idea to make it this way. It also puts the heat on Jim Ryan's plans to try to milk us all to death with his bull**** 10 game MTX/GAAS ideas.

I don't believe in karma, but if I did, this would be it. And if this eats into Sony's projections for the game or reflects badly on Sony's plans of 10 GAAS over the next few years, I'm sure somebody will pay the price for that. If it does, so be it. They dug their own graves.

As for me and PlayStation, this is it. The last game I'll buy whilst Jim Ryan is running the show. I'll use my PS5 for GT7 until my plus is up. I've already finished my backlog over the last 15 months, my IRL friends play crossplay games anyway. I have few, if any ties left to it.

Frankly, this should be the wake up call that Polyphony needs a top down re-imagining of their entire community response. Other Japanese publishers have been able to communicate critical information much quicker, and the fact that so much of it comes down from Japan and filters to English speaking channels needs to change.

Frankly, I can also see that the servers being offline for a ostensibly single player game are replacing the micro transactions issue. Don't stop putting pressure on that front either.

Frankly, if Kaz was smart, he would come out and explain what happened, how this won't happen again, and how he is taking the approach of not only making the game available for offline play, but also eliminating micro-transactions and making the in game economy significantly fairer and easier for people. There is no trust anymore - everyone can see the true side of Polyphony the past 30+ hours. Kaz needs to realize this and get to work cracking down on making the game actually better.

But I doubt that happens, because Kaz and Polyphony are arrogant to the ways of the rest of the games industry that are 5 years ahead of them in terms of practically everything, and they'll just accelerate the content drip of things that should have been in the game to begin with.

Sooooo, i've just installated 1.8 update, server is still down, but hopefully we can see a light at the end of the tunnel
They said they'd provide a time estimate before the servers go back up. They haven't done that. We'll still be waiting some time.

In GT7 there isn't a light switch! You can just flash em.... But kinda stupid that you can't turn on the lights when YOU want too!?

I've taken the opportunity to play some arcade races offline over the last couple of days but there's even some question marks about that.

Firstly, my game actually froze after just one race yesterday, which was the third time since launch that it has happened, but is also pretty poor given that this is literally all we can do with the game (except for the mind-numbingly awful Music Rally).

Yesterday, the distance I raced was credited in the usual manner toward my Daily Marathon goal (which I was surprised to see), but that has not happened today. It remains to be seen when the servers come back up whether or not I'll get these two Daily Marathons (and the associated roulette tickets) credited to my account, or if they will just vanish.

Arcade Mode has always been a bit borked, and while I enjoy it to some extent, the rubber banding is frankly ridiculous. And that is with the 'Boost' option turned off too. My last race was 5 laps at Fuji Speedway on Expert difficulty. The lead/pole car did the first lap some 11 seconds quicker than me, and yet I managed to finish 2nd, just 2.5 seconds off the lead. During Laps 2-5, I was consistently lapping within a one second boundary, but even my quickest lap was still around 3 seconds off the purple lap set by the pole sitter on Lap 1 which ought to have been his slowest lap, not his fastest by a mile.

So, given that this is all that is currently on offer from GT7, it is pretty disappointing.

edit: Aaaaand it's frozen again...

I did a race with max difficulty, Gr4 at dragon trail, made a mistake on lap one and fell behind all but two cars. I kept going and maybe half way though the AI suddenly slowed down . I ended up 6th. Boost was off good old fashioned rubber banding is clearly on.
