The '65 model would originally have been a Morris or an Austin. BMW don't own these brand names even though they own BMC, which built the cars. I assume that's why the car is debadged (IIRC) in the game. It’s a car from 1965, it should be under its own brand. Not alongside the new MINI. Again, maybe BMW own the rights to all things Mini. I don’t know.
It became it's own thing under BMC Holdings in the late 60's, which then became part of British Leyland, parts of which (including Mini) then became the Rover Group, which was owned by British Aerospace at the point it was sold to BMW.I think it did become a marque of its own while it was British, but certainly went under Austin and Rover at various points.
None of this explains why PD choose to represent a clearly British car from what was a British brand at the time as German... however it's interesting that although BMW appear to own the 'marque' and the rights to the likeness and the design of the car, they don't own any of the other brands that actually sold the Mini (Morris, Austin, Leyland or Rover), so the opportunity to put a car in the came, that's called a Mini, and looks like a Mini, and license it from just one company, would appear to be highly limited. The old Mini's produced under BMW's ownership were (I believe) Rovers, what's left of the Rover brand is now owned by Tata/JLR.
And I know I've been Tree'd by Famine, but that's the risk of taking an hour long phone call mid-post.
