I'm sure the proportion of VGTs to other cars will be much smaller in the next game, between the expansion of PD's offices and the outsourcing they've been doing lately for the models. I think we should all remember that GT Sport was meant to be relatively lean in content. I still really like the VGTs, though, and even more so when they allow certain automakers to compete in certain groups when they wouldn't have a real-world car otherwise, such as the Gr.1 Hyundai N2025 VGT. I am similarly hoping the Jaguar VGT Coupe SV will allow for Jaguar to have another Gr.1 option aside from the Group C-era XJR-9.

Too bad they didn't show the Christmas tree... It reminds me that cutscene.

How are y’all STILL this pressed about VGTs
Because the project should've been completed years ago. It was just for the 15th anniversary of GT but here we are with 3 cars yet to be put into the game in 2021. And we still have cars missing! What happened to the Tesla concept? The Ford concept? It's taking too long.

Maybe many of those Makes appeared in the VGT section from GT6 never see the light after 7 years.

- Alfa Romeo VGT project disappeared in 2014
- Bertone no longer exists
- GM, Jordan, Tesla, Ford, Porsche, Italdesign VGT's, are still alive? Maybe Porsche is the only one for the moment.

Exactly. It'd be a stretch to say its taking over the franchise, because clearly it isn't, but as you say the original plan was for all cars to be delivered in GT6 over the course of a year and be done with it, to celebrate the 15th anniversary. Now we're heading for a third game where there are still a dozen of them to come, still at the expense of other cars.

I'd love to know the data for how popular these things are, how many are bought, how many are driven. Yes concepts have always been a part of GT but I'm still pretty confident that the majority of people want to drive cars they know, cars they might drive in real life, cars they've seen race in the present and the past, cars they've seen in movies. Not mostly soulless design studies that they have no connection to.

GM's project turned into the Chapparal 2X surprisingly enough.

Because VGT has evolved into an ongoing open-ended project for manufacturers and brands to design something for Gran Turismo. It is irritating to have cars hang in limbo as we enter the odd stage between games, but I don’t see why the project itself requires an end. Concept cars have existed and will continue to exist, and VGT very healthily facilitates access to the fans and consumers of brands to content and designs thar what was previously unavailable or available to a very small amount of people.

Historically, GT has always had a lot of concept representation well before the VGT project - Dodge Copperhead, Nike One, Toyota Pod, R35 prototypes, GT86 prototypes and concepts, GT by Citroen, modern NSX, technically the C7 Corvette, heck even the Red Bull cars - all of these (and many more I didn’t remember well enough to list) appeared in games before VGT, many of which functioned similarly to the project. Ultimately VGT will allow for an easier process to get these unique franchise-defining concepts into the games for our use. Though most of the time I prefer cars that exist and have been somewhat underwhelmed in the recent usability of the VGTs, the project bolsters brand support and partnerships that will likely result in more real cars.

I see no reason why VGT should have to end.

I think they should encourage manufacturers more to do VGTs if anything. So awesome that so many of the big car manufacturers are designing cars for a game. The reach they have is awesome.

I wonder how Nike's VGT is coming along? I'd love to see the Nike One 2022 return, too, if only to have both it and the much newer Nike VGT.

EDIT: What if Nike's VGT is an upgraded version of the Nike One?!
They should do a special edition Jordan ONE.

Wonder if Greer-san will release next-gen GTP before Yamauchi-san releases GT7. Can they bring back PS2 gen heat haze feature given PS5 has really fast pixel and texture rate? Hopefully they give video export feature that allows to render replays with full path tracing, would be awesome to see the future of graphics. Hopefully not long now before next batch of PS5s arrive for sale. Increase in COVID-19 could delay things further though unfortunately. However on the positive side, Sony should have managed to up install base in key markets substantially so will make it a much better and less frustrating launch for all. 👍

I'd err on the side of that not being official info from Sony/PD and more guess work. Probably based on the old "first half of 2021" text, which would indeed coincide exactly with the end of Spring. The Forza one also seems to be just a guess/assumption it'll be out in the usual holiday window, but that seems rather unlikely going by what T10 said.

If someone cares enough the author is pretty easy to reach and ask

I know Ethan - we shared a Peugeot 208 on a launch back in... 2013 I think. He's a good guy...

... but Goodwood doesn't have any particular additional knowledge on GT7's launch date.

I'd be pretty surprised if GT7 had a release date earlier than the holiday season this year. I think releasing it in October at the earliest would make more sense as far as potential sales go. That said, I certainly hope the marketing gets ramped up soon, and we get more info on GT7.

Those concept representation are taken from real, existing cars, so those are probably more acceptable. GT should cover as much of real automotive as possible, and those concepts in previous games count. VGTs are more or less fictional cars, and some of them also probably had completely unrealistic design or mechanics.

Some of the VGTs have been the basis for real cars - I thought the Bugatti VGT looked a bit like a prototype Chiron, for one. And I don't think the division of work is gonna be as much of an issue in the future since PD has both expanded their offices and seems to be using more outsourcing. If I had to pick, I'd rather have the VGT project over the newest models, but that said, I personally hope we can have both in GT7, especially with these newer developments at PD. I really do think the VGTs help to "define" GT and help it to stand out, especially when some of these VGTs allow some automakers to have cars in groups where they wouldn't have them otherwise, especially when we look at Gr.1. I think VGT is definitely here to stay, ever since we had the Nike One back in GT4, and then the Citroen GTbyCitroen after that, as well as the Red Bull X2010.

Okay, the Trailer reached 9 million views.

And Kaz said - just kidding - he will only release more information when it reaches 10 million. lol

With the upcoming reveal of the Corvette C8 in Forza Horizon 4, surely PD will respond with something? That game will get all the attention because the C8 is the one of the hottest cars right now.

...why? What even is the point when PD literally are working on the next mainline game while the Corvette C8 is being released Not for a mainline Forza title, but for the Open world spin off?
